Because of its hormone effects, you shouldn't take vitex if you're breastfeeding. Pregnancy. If you are pregnant, you shouldn't take vitex. Influencing your hormones during pregnancy can be dangerous. Progesterone is a hormone that helps the uterus grow during pregnancy and keeps it from contracting. Treatment with progesterone during pregnancy may help some people reduce their risk for premature birth. If you have a short cervix, treatment with vaginal progesterone gel may help prevent premature birth.

Hello! Thank you very much for all the useful info that you are sharing with us. I've read/watched very carefully all the info about Vitex, but I am still a bit confused. I have high prolactin (double than normal) and a small pituitary adenoma. However doctors say it's a non-secreting tumour and they never treated me for high prolactin. Moreover, I am also suspected to be having PCOS (LH to FSH ratio was 1.8). They say I'm on the borderline of PCOS judging by the Amsterdam criteria. I am currently taking BC pill, but I would want to stop. Would Vitex be an option for me when I stop BC? I asume it would help decrease my prolactin levels (and all the symptoms linked to this) but would it do more harm than good to the LH levels? One naturopath prescribed it to me, but I'm afraid to start because of this LH thing🤔 Your opinion would be so valuable to me!:)

Hello, I’m a male with elevated prolactin around 50 to 60 with a range of 2 to 18 being normal. Therefore my prolactin is approximately six times higher than normal so obviously it’s causing many issues like low testosterone, low luteinizing hormone and low FSH. I read that if you take a high dose of Vitex, it can increase dopamine thereby lowering prolactin which should help raise testosterone. What are your thoughts on this and what’s a high dose? I’m taking around 3000 mg a day.

I also experienced shorter periods because of vitex and quit because of that. But my periods were irregular and I was using iodine which corrected it to 27 days after skipping or longer periods. But I do not bleed much since using the mirena IUD. Before I was on that I used to bleed a lot and had 21day cycles. I did eat out of plastic from a microwave that might have caused that though. I think I detoxed that in the 11 years of Mirena.

Is is safe for people who have had total thyroidectomy? (My thyroid was removed because of thyroid canser when i was 18). Im 28 year old female now, i have pcos and i have suffered 2 years of infertility (since i was 26). I was recomended to use vitex based on dutch test and some other blood tests. I used it 1 cycle, and on that cycle i ovulated cd14, which i was very happy about. Normally i ovulate between cd 16-25. But then my tsh had risen from 0.4 to 1.6 :/ so after that i havent used vitex, because i worry it would mess my tsh because i dont have thyroid... My tsh is supposed to be under 2 and close to 0 as possible because of thyroid canser background. Also based on dutch test my estrogen was very low, but dhea was super high. Based on blood tests my amh is 9, and this cycle i ovulated 2 follicles (cd16) thanks to letrozol so my progesterone was 73. So i dont think low progesterone is issue for me anymore (i have been on terolut and using progesterone cream also, but not in this cycle they tested it), it might have been problem in past because back on january it was a bit low on dutch test thought. Do you think is it safe for me to use vitex? Or it would suit me still? I really liked that i ovulated cd 14 on it, it had never happenned before it, not even on letrozol... But i expecially worry it would mess my tsh... Its hard to sometimes find info what suppliments are safe for total thyroidectomy patients :/

Because it works by promoting ovulation, vitex should be started early in the follicular phase and then continued until day 1 of the period. Taking regular breaks from vitex can prevent attenuation of its effects. If you have regular periods, take five days off from the first day of your period (day 1 to 5).

Chasteberry should not be taken in combination with hormone replacement therapy or with the birth control pill because combination effects are unknown. It is also very important to understand that chasteberry may decrease the effectiveness of the combination hormonal contraceptives. In other words, taking chasteberry while using the oral contraceptive pill, the contraceptive patch, or Nuvaring for birth control increases the chance that you could get pregnant
