Unbelievable; what's supposed to have been in any way special or particularly noteworthy about the fact that some his sitters were Jewish ? Nothing, nothing at all.

This is such an unexpected comment on a video of such a thoughtful lecture that is about, ironically, how critics, and by extension the audience of the work, takes the work in a very different direction than what the artists and their subjects may have intended. Maybe that's what you meant? Erica Hirshler is a treasure and this lecture was excellent.

Thank you so much for a very interesting view on Sergeant’s portraits. When you find out a history of the painting, apply it to the historical time, skills and ideas of the painter, then you can really enjoy them deeply.
