Okay so - I love this song. So much. Hearing this in the mid-90s was a head-explosion. So different from the status quo at the time. There’s something uniquely fabulous about Rahman in the 90s in Tamil; it sounds phonetically perfect, as in the phonetics of Tamil and Rahman’s music match up so darn well (even though my knowledge of Tamil is conversational at best). I liken Rahman’s rise to India’s economic liberalization at about the same time - a tremendous breath of fresh air that permanently changed the fabric of our future. I was one of these folks that found Prabhu Deva talented but cheesy. But looking back at these videos with my 90s filter on, gosh don’t I love me some 90s cheese. Every once in a while, I circle back to this song. Top notch and makes me nostalgic. Thank you so much for reviewing these. Having lived in multiple countries, I’m sometimes awe-struck by how humans evolved into such different cultures in different parts of the world, and yet we are somehow able to appreciate each other. I like the (delicate) German sensibilities of your reviews, and was pleasantly surprised when I found your channel and how you both (sometimes tediously) relate with Indian movies. I feel channels like yours are lubricating cultural pathways between India and the rest (globalization in action). Everyone else thinks India is nan+tikka masala+they speak ‘hindu’. The lyrics was written by keeping in mind of actress urvashi who you would have watched in many malayalam and tamil movies.. As she had a rift with the lyrics writer in another song with its lyrics and wanted to make peace by 'saying take it easy urvashi' and she was getting a bit overweight during that period and wanted to take a dig at her by addressing the same 😂
