I'm so silly. It did not occur to me to twist cable ties instead of cutting them. (I learn something new every day). I must do the watering system like that. It looks so much easier. Thanks for showing.

Not silly, most people snip them...I did too until recently!

I hadn’t thought of twisting them off either, and I’ve got plenty of scratches on my arms to prove it. 👍🏼👍🏼

This was really great to see what works for you. I really struggled with water when I frist moved out into the bush. Need to remind myself even the cool summers in Tas still get dry.

It’s certainly been hot lately, but hopefully some rain is on the way 🌧️

Hi, I use boiling water to push the 13 & 19MM pipe & fittings together. as it cools it tightens better together. I also use boiling water to kill weeds in pathways. Eric Bain

I've had good results with the Nylex hoses too. Keeping them out of the UV when they're not in use prolongs their life. Their snap fittings are good, but to your point about the double-O ring setup, maintaining the O rings is really important regardless of brand. I find the ones on my taps get hard and crack after a few seasons in the blazing sun. A little bit of vaseline on them seems to help too.

i battle hydrophobic soil every spring, summer and early autumn. tried all of the soil wetters in big box store (starting with B) and a couple i bought online, and have not yet found anything that actually works, even on first application. i upgraded taps to the quarter turn and loving it. dont get them with any chrome parts, as those dont last at all. all bronze. also bronze male fitting on tap, as plastic ones break off. i bought a driptape kit from USA, which i'm still using on veggie patch. our local offerings are way overpriced and not up to scratch, or you have to pick every little part yourself. For your usage maybe those multi-pattern watering things work; I found them to break easily and not give me anything useful that a dramm wand cant do just by adjusting flow-rate at wand. I've been thru many hoses and found the one, which is Pope Pinnacle. Quite expensive, but i've had even more expensive hoses that were either shonky or just not suitable for my uses. Finally bought a battery run sprayer, so can do regular sprays with a fine mist of potassium bicarbonate, to reduce fungals.

im a big user of weeper hoses. Especially the nylex brand from bunnings the 50 metre length ones. I find that they do best in the sun and they can also be buried no probles. i find sprinker watering encourages weeds to grow across your whole bed.

Hello John. This was interest as I’ve seen so Much these days about watering at the base/roots not overhead to reduce risk of disease and evaporation. I’ve done both but currently overhead no sprinkler system yet installed as I was unsure how to connect the black pipes to the main tap. Thank you I think I will be able to work it out. I must say the garden is looking very pretty I know the flowers are Elizabeth’s please let her know I enjoy seeing it.

Will do!

UV is what kills our hoses. If you can keep them out of the sun or in a retractable reel, it will last much longer.

Agreed.

I got into gardening thinking id just use mulch and let stuff grow on its own but once i realised i had to water and the wild life i gave up lol if it doesnt grow by its self you might aswel have another child, not for me, rather eat from supermarket way easier, lifes too short to try grow food on mars when theres conpanies that are paid to do it, something to do when U get old I guess

That's fine while the supermarket has food...and some of us like a food truly fresh!
