It's great you mentioned the weedkiller test. I got some horse manure from a guy who doesn't use chemicals and added it to the compost pile. I did a pyralid test and it failed. Turns out some hay he bought had been sprayed with it. He was not a happy man, luckily I tested it before using it. Mainly because I'd got aminopyralid in my garden before from a commercial product. I do the bean/pea test where you grow a bean in a pot with a mix of soil and whatever input you're testing then look for misshapen leaves or no growth at all. Cheers!

Yes definitely worth testing every compost/manure before adding it into the garden! Thanks for sharing your experience and what you do as this could help others out! 😁🌱

What's the rush? I compost a lot and have plenty every year, so I have eased up a little on trying to make it quickly. My age may have something to do with that though..

There is no rush i guess, its just the way i like to do it. I guess the fact that ill be getting another lot next month after composting a pile it just makes it easier to manage. Happy gardening

@@SelfSufficientCJ I do feel better once I've got a load of manure in. I haven't the facilities to get it delivered in the amounts I'd like.

You should have added the same amount of fresh hard wood chips to the pile and turn it once a week for 4 months! (Or once the temp starts to drop then turn it again)The manure and wood chips need time to be processed by the microbes fungi and bacteria.. then it’s ready! good effort but that pile wouldnt be ready in 30days! Plus your using way too much water 👍🏻

CJ that seems like far too much work! There must be an easier approach such as your ‘set & forget’ leaf mulch method 🤷🏽♂️

Well this was done to show a quick way of composting manure. I do this method every time as I don’t want weed seeds to survive the composting process. Mixing the outside into the middle and so forth, makes sure that all the material has gotten above 55 degrees which kills weed seeds. But yes you can absolutely just leave it in a big pile and maybe add some pipes for air flow. 😁

@ a load of mycelium injected into some oak or birch under the trees by the compost would look cool, be of great teacher, edible and make brilliant content 💭
