It's true, as the only thing that a helmet protects is your face and cranium; your neck is still susceptible to any and all potential lines of injury. If we're talking about the upper body exclusively, It's far more common for a victim to have cervical spine injuries than a fractured cranium and/or mandible. We saw what happened in Italy and Spain. For weeks and weeks we learned of the horrors they faced. Our government did NOTHING to prepare, denied it would even get here, then denied it would spread. And now things are worse then they ever were in Italy they talk about ending quarantine? They told us from the beginning - they are trying to achieve herd immunity no matter the cost. And the worse thing is, herd immunity doesn't work that way with a fatal illness. That 4% kill rate is when there is enough medicine and doctors and nurses able to keep you alive for months on end. Boris is quite right about the helmet law. Many studies do show that while wearing a helmet is clearly safer, it decreases the number of people on bikes and thereby increases health problems. The number of deaths by cycle head injuries seems to be offset by the number of early deaths of poor physical health.
@hamishdavidson17145 жыл бұрын
what studies are these?? ridiculous to suggest a law around helmets is responsible for increasing health problems as opposed to the amount of sugar in our food and the prevalence and popularity of fast food
@bremCZ5 жыл бұрын
@@hamishdavidson1714 The amount of sugar in food doesn't discourage people from using a bike and getting the health benefits from it. Both Australia and New Zealand noted approximately 50% decrease in the number of adults using bikes as a mode of transport after the introduction of the helmet laws. The studies also don't show any downturn in the number of deaths on bikes despite the reduction in use. Other studies around the world also show that drivers pass by closer to riders wearing helmets than those not. It is a much more complicated thing than people give it credit for.

@bremCZ5 жыл бұрын
@UC78DV-Da5kEkI9UlfVfr2WQ There are plenty of them. The university of British Columbia has done many studies on the wearing of helmets. The Australian govt has their evaluation on their website which shows that the helmet laws haven't change the rates of people hospitalised with head injuries although there was 40% fewer people on bikes. The New Zealand Medical Journals conclusion was "This evaluation of NZ’s bicycle helmet law finds it has failed in aspects of promoting cycling, safety, health, accident compensation, environmental issues and civil liberties. It is estimated to cost about 53 lives per year in premature deaths and result in thousands of fines plus legal aspects of discrimination in accident compensation cases. Road safety and cyclist’s safety should be improved by coherent policies, which support health, the environment, and without the legal requirement to wear a helmet."

The golden rule for any comic: never ever force it. Even if you have to sit silently for 5 minutes as others are talking, just wait until something strikes as funny and then pounce. But never have the mindset of desperately trying to show someone up or have an agenda or try to butt in every 30 seconds or be so insecure that you must be the centre of attention.
