For the lost son story - id say the autism is relevant because it makes it that much more likely that that 3yo could have been in danger, and much more important for them to be supervised. If someone that young has a meltdown or shut down they can really hurt themself or their sibling!

I was going to say the same thing. Not to mention Wandering is incredibly common for autistic children and depending on symptom severity it may require special beds to keep them safe at night while not being supervised.

I also wonder if the father is on the spectrum, himself. It can be genetic.

There is no way. I would have divorced that man so fast if my son escaped and alarms were going off and he still was playing games.

47:36 Keeping the information for the father and making sure in emergencies you need to have that information for this child. He could have lied about his medical information and this kid needs to be able to make sure they don’t get romantically involved with any relatives on accident. Even tho that’s unlikely it is more unethical to never have that information to give to that kid in the future.

So I've seen a lot of "donor kids" talk about how they find their parents selfish for not keeping record of who their bio parent was for many reasons (health records, culture, ect.)

As an autistic person I really appreciated you guys addressing that part in the story of how parents just throw it in to make it sound like we’re extremely difficult as children or it makes us more vulnerable/dangerous. I can’t stand the “autism moms” on tiktok

To me it sounded like the mom was implying the dad is being avoidant because the kids are autistic

I understand what you mean but also as an autistic person I feel like young children with autism have different needs. My boyfriend has a 13 year old brother who is autistic and he can't be home alone. He's sensitive to loud noises and I think autistic children in general are more vulnerable to melt downs. Depends on the kid ofc, but I feel the mother wouldn't throw that in for no reason. Her children may have different struggles from other kids. Even if they weren't autistic though obviously this would still be an issue

DIY IVF is such a bad idea from a legal standpoint. It doesn’t matter if you tell the father he’ll have no rights or contact, if he wants to he can sue for custody. People are easy to find so even if you don’t exchange names or contact information there’s a good chance he can find her.

Lost son story: 1) dad has a serious addiction 2) mom should have left long before because the daughter was neglected and that leaves an imprint. 3) mom is esentially a single mom 4) the fact that they are autistic i think makes this more f-ed up because we do not know the details and have no idea at how they could react at a police officer approaching him, could have been more dangerous. Even though it is dangerous for every 3 year old.

They don’t do anything about kids getting out because it’s a normal thing. Kids get out even when the mom is paying attention all takes is one second. But in this situation, no he should’ve been arrested at that moment if he was awake, alarms going off ,his door was closed, he was naked all that definitely the cops should’ve taken him to jail but other than that the reason why they don’t arrest the parents is this stuff happens even to good parents

There is zero reason or excuse to have a young child escape, autism or not. He should have neglect charges filed against him

On the son escaping story - the autism was probably mentioned because it’s fairly common for kids with autism to elope! And from what I’ve seen kids who elope like this can be escape artists in a way so they need an extra watchful eye to keep them safe. Not super educated on this subject but have seen it talked about online and know it’s like a thing so thought I’d mention it here 🫶🏻
