Something cool most people don't notice is that Ragora (the purple witch) changes where she's holding her grip on the weapon depending on what she wants to do. Quick polearms lesson: If you hold a hand closer to the bladed end, you get better control over the tip and hits faster, but lacks brute damage, while if you grab as far away from the bladed part as you can, say on the opposite end, you let the weapons's weight (which is concentrated on the tip) gain more momentum, increasing the damage dealt. With that in mind, rewatch in slow motion and notice how whenever she hits with a lot of power, her hands get farther from the blade, while the more controled and precise attacks she grips closer to the blade. This is a level of attention to detail that's rarely showcased (another great example of polearm fighting done somewhat right is For Honor, with a honorable mention on the Lawbringer class).
@dindapriska4 жыл бұрын

Yeah I noticed that too. Great attention to detail. Also For Honor is awesome!!
@stefonrandle91073 жыл бұрын
That level of detail shows great understanding in how the weapon would function in reality and makes the fight scene so much more cohesive and flowing. It mimics the real life skill needed to utilize technique instead of just swinging a weapon randomly
@ionga3 жыл бұрын
@@stefonrandle9107 That's one of the major problemas I have with fighting in anime-style stuff: Things don't have the proper technique or weight. People are swing these massively oversized weapons all over the place that seems to deal no damage at all at times with no effort at all. Makes the fight looks worse in my opinion. There are two great examples on how to use weight in combat: Grimgar (really awesome but underrated anime) and Fate/stay night by UFOTABLE. In the first, each weapon is handled different, as they have different shapes, masses and are wielded by different people. If you do watch it, pay attention on how each character handles their weapon and how they physique and the weight and size of their weapons change how the flow of the battle goes. In Fate we have a situation that's the inverse: Anyone looking at Berserker, the massive hulking brute wielding a stone slab for a weapon, would assume him to be slow and clunky, but because he's an heroic spirit, that's not the case (in fact, he has the greatest Agility rating of all Servants in that anime) as he demonstrates when facing Saber and rivaling or even surpassing her in strength. So moral of the little essay: Either give reasonable weight to the weapons or find a way to logically explain why it doesn't quite apply in a way that the audience will immediatelly understand and accept.

I think a little thing that most people don't actually point out in the Viridian trailer is that the enemies have combo attacks and work together. RWBY almost never does this and usually has the big baddies fight one on (x), even clear paired baddie teams like Torchwick and Neo or Emerald and Mercury basically never actually fight in sync or even together for the most part. The only single time I can recall baddies having fought together is in the Yellow trailer where the twins fought Yang, but even that was more of taking turns than actual team attacks. Heck half the time in recent RWBY episodes our heroes don't even have team attacks anymore, they just fight "with" their teammate. What happened to Checkmate or Freezer Burn, what happened to all the training they did to learn these team attacks and having their semblence/dust work in interesting unique ways that compliment eachother. It's like I'm watching a Super Smash Brothers FFA brawl where the only goal is to hit the other person rather than to co-operate with your teammate.

Three more RWBY Fanimations series/projects I personally enjoy and would like to hear your thoughts on are: RWBY-30 days (both Lee and Angel, by tommylau74), The DARK trailers (Lone Hunter, Crimson, Ashes, and Sunrise, by Raxacory), and NYON (Chapters 1, 1.5, and 2, by Danger Noodle Animations) All of them are legit good for being fan animations (I personally think the weakest one is Lee, but even then it's decent) Thanks in advance if you look at these! :D

btw Mark was at one point under the employ of Screwattack post being merged with RT as a whole (he made the predator vs crysis dbx), and we know from Torrian being moved to Gen:lock that animators can be exchanged between branches. idk what that could mean for SLVR or RWBY, but they definitely know about him and his talents at least.

Not sure if many people notice, but for the Viridian trailer, the final part where she cut the Grimm Knight in half, she used her glyph semblance to magnetize her bow with the ground. Showing that even if she doesn't have the physical strength to cut through them normally, she could make up for it through technique.

One thing I love about Lysette is how she uses her legs to open up space between her and her opponent. I hope a year from now it could be my animations, I have so many that I started but never finished because something else gets in the way. Edit: You should check NYON by my Danger Noodle Animations, but maybe wait until the third chapter comes out, Steve has been working on the models and I can confidently say that they look way better than the ones in the show now, it looks amazing.

@The Judgemental Critter RIP Monty.. Honestly this review was a very fair critique of both the SLVR fan series and the OG show. I agree that it is definitely difficult to be really depthful choreography; however, they DO have a whole team. You would think that someone would have brought that critique about in the animators room over multiple seasons of degradation (especially considering there is often a decent number of months between the end of one season and the premier of the next one). Imo, while you hit the nail on the head with our main characters losing what made them unique in terms of fighting style and aesthetic design, it truly shows for newer characters that were heavily anticipated and simply did not live up to the expectations that had been built over so long. Take for example Raven and Ironwood, we've seen snippets of Raven fighting that simply are her waving around a katana very similarly to Adam. Considering that she had multiple blades. has dust abilities, appeared to have some association with the grim, the ability to transform into a bird like Qrow, and the ability to teleport.....yeah, wasted potential. On the other hand we have Ironwood, whose design was my favorite simply because it was minimalist and gave nothing away to the combat skills of the stalwart general; however, when we finally got to see him perform he was nothing more than a hulking brute with a magnum...I like brawler-esque styles of fighting, but jeez they made him feel so unrefined compared to Watts who was temporarily serving as his composed counterpart. Tbh I think the style and character development simply got lazy due to its popularity, "People will watch anyway, so there's no need to put so much effort into it." Idk maybe others disagree, which is fair, but that's just how I feel.

I want to sort of touch on that bit where Mark and RT differ with their development time. Mark certainly does great work and he can spend as much time as he wanted on these scenes. He has no deadlines and doesn't have to worry about stuff like dialogue for a narrative, at least not until the recent trailer. And that sort of why it sort of worked for RWBY's early years. It was seen as a passion project and for a web series it had elements to it that goes far beyond what was expected. And that passion is a key factor. Meanwhile RT now with them becoming professional and a legit company, they do have deadlines to keep up. But I think there is something more. All of RT's talent are not grouped up that allows them to do different projects at the same time. They only did one at a time. And it's all one team. Meaning we got the same animators, the same script writers, the same directors. etc. And I think that is very damaging cause it just overworks the company and many can lose passion really fast. It's why I wanted RT to take a break with RWBY and just try to plan things out in advance. Give them breathing room and collect themselves before some get thrown into an early grave. It's why people see some fan projects and think they are so much better then the originals. And I think they shouldn't be brought up to RT cause I fear all that potential and passion will shrivel up once they are on. It's why I say let them go at their own pace.

I’ve been saying that too. They need to give rwby a year or two hiatus to help revitalize the series. Something they could do in the meantime would be featuring fan made stuff to keep people entertained. They’ve been going at this since rwby first started and since they’ve yet to take a break, they could end up like team four star with DBZ abridged and get burned out working on it.

That would be reasonable but I will say this. I'm legally blind in both eyes and one of my eyes is basically useless so I really only have one good eye. I am still a pretty good shot, not perfect but it isn't too hard to learn to aim without depth perception, just make sure you change your aim to take into account you are seeing things from an off center angle...or maybe I'm just a bit biased because I've been doing it since birth.

It honestly seems like Mark understands the fight choreography and direction that Monty stunned us with all those years ago, far better than anyone else at Rooster Teeth. I used to want Mark to join the CRWBY team and help fix the fights, because the fights were THE THING that made RWBY blow up in the first place. But now, with how the company is going? I think it's better that Mark takes his skills and the spirit of Monty Oum's vision elsewhere. Every season of RWBY i just get less and less excited. At this point i barely have any interest in it other than just seeing how it ends. I mean, this is the semi-final season of the show and i've still got no idea where the fuck its supposed to be going. How are we supposed to fit in the introduction of Vacuo, the other maidens, the other relics, and all of the sideplots in 2 seasons? Especially when, from what i've heard, the entirety of Season 8 will take place over only 2 DAYS! So realistically all of that stuff will be relegated to one season, if they even address it. I just... what is going on with Rooster Teeth? They've lost so many people who built the company, theyre overcharging customers, theyre getting political and hypocritical, and everyday its seeming more and more like AT&T and Warner are going to liquidate the entirety of Rooster Teeth as a company. Wheres Gen Lock season 2? Is it still going to be exclusive to HBO? What happened to Nomad of Nowhere? Is Camp Camp just over? Red vs Blue should have ended in season 11. Are they even working on new projects?

I really miss Blakes fighting style. It was in the trailer so good... and in the previous volumes. She used the ribbon a lot to move around, she lookes very flexible like a cat. After the animation change she rarely uses it, and when she does it it looks so strange, it doesnt look like she knows how to use her ribbon, it looks like she just throws a heavy stone... and then she only does it one time, not like before when she used to pull back her weapon, to shoot around her while exactly knowing when to pull the ribbon so the trigger from her gun get activated.

regarding the "hiring Mark to animate for them will not fix the show" this is true since RT actually have a great team of animators (one of them I know is a youtuber called "dillon goo" most known for his overwatch fight animations they're always really smooth and well down with little details, they got people like that but you see how the show is, adding mark won't make the problem go away, it can help it in some places, but it could overall make no difference Individual skill won't carry a group project, especially for a show as long as Rwby
@kooriame33154 жыл бұрын
Weeeeeeeell, basically RWBY fighting choreographies died when Monty died back in volume 2/3. Now I'm feeling like the RT animators team is improving a little (e.g. Ace Ops Vs RWBY) but you can clearly see the differences between the first fighting scenes of the show and the last ones. What a shame 😔

Interesting Fact: The Blake Yang vs Adam fight was based off a fight Monty had made for Volume 3 for Yang to fight Adam. That why it actually looks good and decent for the fight. However, they didn’t use it to now. But it make sense why they didn’t play around with the environment cause the fight was suppose to be in the cafeteria.

I dunno, I just felt Linen was a merger of Sun Wukong from RWBY and Valkyr from Warframe. Wasn't bad, but the design was a simple and straightforward as Linen's apparent personality. Though that might be intentional. Viridan and Regalia were definitely awesome though. Felt like he put so much thought into the transforming weapon shapes, and Regalia the glaive fight took a lot of obvious inspiration from how Ruby used to fight with her scythe, and Edward from Full Metal Alchemist for the wrist sword. I honestly have to say though, my favorite part of Regalia was when she kicked the handle of her glaive into her opponent. Just thinking of using the WHOLE of the weapon, and not just the sharp bits.

A lot of RWBY's issues are due to the higher ups above rooster teeth forcing their animation team to work overtime in order to pump out a 13 chapter volume each year, which in turn can and has caused a lot of things to be either cut completely or watered down to meet the already tight deadline. They even said that raven was supposed to have a back story episode in volume 5 but they had to cut it for time

Don't get me wrong, I still liked the RWBY team. But with the personal reason I love if the team has dispersed gender and as myself a boy I would empathically cheer for Jean and would be sympathetic with other casts. With Mark Zhang's team, you can either put yourself as one of the four-member of SLVR, and because they're the main cast of their story, the story mostly centered around them. It's like a boy who loved the Shounen genre and girl that loved the Shoujo genre. My favorite character is Simin, favorite weapon and semblance are Vella's.

If I had any talent in animation, I would have attempted my own team long ago. And every character had a very unique fighting style i'm sure you would have appreciated. The leader was inspired by the " man with two souls" story before we realized that it was really Ozpin. Weapon, a cloud-esque buster sword that folds out in a tripod with two additional swords to take into combat at long range, the rest folds into an artillery gun that fires autonomously, basically a mini-Howitzer. His semblance is not actually his, its the spirit of his deceased twin brother's armor that will move about him and automatically block attacks, hence the two souls, his brother is watching over him. Next is a half-dragon faunus inspired by John Constantine, weapon is an armored left wing that trails across the back to a full right arm claw. he can use for somewhat aerial movement but uses an inhalant version of dust for dragonish breath attacks (I.e. Constantine and cigarettes) but his semblance lets him go full dragon. He almost always refuses to use it as it puts too many people in danger as he cant control this form. Next is the former White Fang assassin, a (specifically Peregrine Falcon faunus) that actually has the wings to fly. Uses a small caliber rifle/grappling hook/ harpoon/ spear. it does all the things. Fought because he didn't see the killing of "unworthy prey" as right. The kind that would have a duel with a teammate if the reason was there. Semblance is the ability to immediately switch his position with the last object he touched. He also continues to wear a white fang mask to hide that he has a beak. Last is the Pyro. Think a baseball themed Harley Quinn. Exceptionally fast, laying all kinds of directional explosives on a battlefield in a sort of dance, then lures enemies back into the pattern and strategically detonating things with the controllers in her Neegan-esque baseball bat. And she has everything from cherry bombs to C-4, to prank explosives. Throws a great surprise party as well. youngest member. Semblance: Inability to feel burns. This was a developed semblance, due to several accidents experimenting with fire, the one sparking the semblance was the one that killed her parents. They all have things they regret from their past, so the team name is RDMN or Redemption: Rorrick Grunwald, Drago Contemptus, Falcor Malacarus, and Nadine Ruth.

Vella's trailer reminds me of Red vs Blue's fight in season 10 (I'm not comparing because both are my favorite).
