The only way to learn Judo. Dr Jigoro Kano spent five years perfecting the Gokyo No Waza, and it's best to learn Judo in its proper sequence., no short cuts.
@TheJudoWayofLife Жыл бұрын
I agree...I didn't learn in this way but I do teach in this way now as I feel as though it's best learnt as such...with one exception...I start teach Okuri Ashi Harai much sooner than it appears in the sequence.

I thought u can't grab legs in judo on throws
@TheJudoWayofLife Жыл бұрын
Of course you can...techniques where you "grab" the legs are part of Judo and should be learnt and taught in every dojo. Currently, the rules for IJF regulated competitions in 2023, means you will given a shido if you do touch the legs. However, IJF regulated competitions are only one small part of Judo, that many people who learn and practice the sport never experience. For a full, well rounded understanding of Judo, you should learn how to do all of the techniques, why they exist and why they cannot be used in competitions, whether for safety reasons or something else...this is very important for the continuation of the knowledge so the history of Judo does not get lost or forgotten. A dojo is able to practice whatever rule set it wants, but this should be communicated and explain to all students so everyone is operating under the same understanding.

It’s important to note that 00:42-00:50 is morote seoi, not ippon.
@TheJudoWayofLife7 ай бұрын
It is my understanding that at the time this throw was included in the Gokyo (and the period that I cover for this video; 1920-1982) it was called Seoi Nage and only after 1982 once Ippon Seoi Nage was added as a variation was the name updated to Morote Seoi Nage. Even with this update, calling this throw Seoi Nage is still correct...as seen on the Kodokan website where there is only Seoi Nage and Ippon Seoi Nage listed, no Morote Seoi Nage.

@MrCajup8 ай бұрын
I cant find the trick, where it is like an ippon seoi nage. But you grip two of the arms and and flip him over the arm and not below like in an ippon seoi nage (something like that, sorry if didn't explain well)
@TheJudoWayofLife8 ай бұрын
It sounds like you might be describing Sode Tsurikomi Goshi perhaps? (kzbin.info/www/bejne/oKjYgIyDhdtskLM)...if so, then the reason it is not included in this video as Sode Tsurikomi Goshi was added to the Gokyo-no-Waza after 1982.

Outstanding video! You missed morote gari, kuchiki taoshi and kibisu gaeshi! Also kawazu gake and kami basani (but those are understandable not to showcase lol) It's a pity people are so focused on competition (only 1/4 of judo, as we have uchi komi, geiko, randori and shiai) I'm lucky I learned in a traditional dojo, I never got to like competition. Thanks for the vid!

My memory fails me but can you identify the name of this throw please? The left hand holds the opponents left wrist/sleeve, the right arm reaches up under the opponents left armpit up over their back simultaneously whilst stepping in and kicking the right leg through with force horizontally behind the right hip of the opponent as you rotate left, lifting them up and over as you throw and twist on your left leg? The throw utilizes the force of the kick through to ship them up and over. It's been ages since I rolled and I cannot remember this throw. Any help would be great. Cheers
@dariodesansebastian Жыл бұрын
At the beginning I thought it was some kind of morote seoi nage, but the setup you're talking about is like a ken ken uchi mata or a simple uchi mata (if you mean you're using your leg between his): kzbin.info/www/bejne/n4bThKhrf5KVndk&ab_channel=KODOKAN or a harai goshi if you mean you're sweeping his leg with yours from the outside: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p4XSaXuidqaehdE&ab_channel=KODOKAN Was any of these two?
@branni6538 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply. I've a feeling it was a variation of the harai goshi. It was and still is one of my favourite throws. Just couldn't remember the names. Thankyou!

@jongler9775 Жыл бұрын
Awesome video. Great work. I am currently working on kata's basics, so it is very usefull for me as a reference. For uki waza, I noticed the kuzushi is not applied exactly the same way as in the Kodokan's videos. I think ( I might be mistaken ) Tori falls more towards the outside, but again, I have yet to try it so I am just voicing some light doubts here. I am just curious.
@dariodesansebastian Жыл бұрын
There are many variations, the Kodokan variation is the standard and sometimes a bit exaggerated! Have a look at ippon seoi nage in nage no kata, it's the best application, but almost impossible to see in irl judo! Good luck with your second degree black belt exam (here the exam syllabus works that way, maybe it works differently in other countries)! Uki waza works really well in randori, try it with a combo with sasae, uke resists, then uki waza! Good luck!
@jongler9775 Жыл бұрын
@@dariodesansebastian Thank you for your kind reply and insights. Sasae + Uki waza combo seems awesome. By the way, I live in the countryside of North Japan, and here, up to 3rd degree black belt, the local teachers ( 6th dan or above ) can give you the degree following their own criterias. From the 4th degree it becomes a regional decision, and from the 6th it must be delivered by the Kodokan association. In reality, youngsters get their black belt at a young age quite easily. It gets king of serious around the 3rd degree here. That is just the way it is. - For exemple, to my surprise, a lot of young black belts are clueless about O-uchi-gari / Ko-uchi-gari and the likes. They don't know how to apply kuzushi. They lack a lot of basics ( and so do I, but I am working on it. ) - Cheers, happy judo everyone. Matthieu
