Just purchased the Stems Pack!! Great work DM Kahn!! So many useful reference points in there. Just being able to hear what your piano track sounds like underneath the guitars was very informative. Lots of stuff to learn from... and I am working on that project I told you about and have been feeling concerned about my ability to get the mixes sounding ideal. This is going to help!

King Tubby was known for using a multi-step bandpass filter knob on his MCI mixer when doing his Dub Mixes, the bandpass filter gave a unique sound to his mixes.

This might be a dumb question but at what point in the fx chain/routing did he put it? I'm assuming it varies some but didn't know if there was a consistent technique
@mrscakehead5 ай бұрын
yes the eq was in definite steps , so it jumped from one frequency to the other, and old British board we had, a Calrec had them, i like it on reverb returns and individual instruments , you can fake it on a DAW

Mutes are best done with the relay type mutes like on SSL or even MCI/Sony consoles. They are much faster. For the mute buttons you have you have to do it through MIDI if your board supports it (but it's not live). Running the faders is the old school way which wore out a lot of consoles in the day. Good job bro!!! Bless.

Whoa... much respect to you for putting out this tutorial sir. I am from the Bahamas, just miles away from Jamaica and during the hey-dey of dubs on records, reggae was essentially banned by our government because of the "negative" connection to Rastafarian Culture. So those records released by Joe Gibbs and the Professionals which almost always had a wicked dub version on the 12" release were practically contraband. I am a DJ and producer so to have someone break down how those magical sounds were produced has been a pure blessing. Salute to you sir and thank you for your vibes. I will purchase the stems pack for sure.
