In the process of trying to build an ever more useful and awesome Razor E300, I burnt it all down to the ground.
Expect video of the testing regime that led to this in the coming months.

Ive just gone and watched the whole playlist of this. Absolutely love this series and now super inspired to upgrade my e200, which is basically a smaller e300. Great playlist and cant wait to see what is coming up next!

Oh no TK! That just sucks. I too just toasted my stock motor running on over-volt (36v). I just received the 500w but haven’t installed it. Not a lot of hope for me after watching this. Oh well, I’ll try it anyway. Consider using a car alternator converted in to a BLDC. They are a few “How To” videos on KZbin. Going to try that myself if my new motor does last. Good luck bruh!

Yeah those stock motors are weak sauce when overvolted, burnt two out myself now haha. Cheers homie!

I think cooling is the key here... I was thinking of banding a ton of strips of metal around the motor and then bending them out the back of so they were like fins cutting through the air. Maybe even a cheap temp prob and display could be in order(?) Also I have learnt that having a lower gear ratio also put tremendous stresses on the motor as well as the electronics, SO, maybe drop your top speed a little and up the ratio. It would see an extension in life for all components. I'm still rocking my 1st standard 300w motor but was thinking to downgrade to 200w but keep all the other mods just to extend the range and add as much cooling as possible. Everything is a compromise. But at 200w I would be pumping in nearly 400w vastly reducing my current consumption and drain on the battery. I'm down from 90kg to 83kg now so losing a little weight helps too (side tracked research into F1 drivers) Keep up the good work.. and as you are now burning through them I believe NOW is the time to go brushless. its WAY more efficient so you should see perks across the board for speed, range, acceleration... good luck with it all!!

Very cogent points, particularly on gearing!
@lestergranger1685
@lestergranger1685 4 жыл бұрын
@@WhatUpTKHere I think the key is high ratio gearing on a very high rpm motor with added cooling. The way you're currently doing it you will burn through many motors. Hence the reason i prefer the overvolt method. But this has many of it's own problems. So I suggest brushless as we can achieve the high rpm with long gearing and still stay, relatively, cool.

Hiya TK! Mate I have used your advice to build myself quite a mean E300, running an 800w controller & variable throttle (after killing 3 stock controllers, and also nearly myself at full boar when the fets' died lol!) and a 36v 350w motor. For power I love saying it's 'powered by Samsung' lol, I made 2 x 5s4p battery packs connected in series out of cells from 4 Aldi battery packs (which some people may not know are actually Samsung 20Q 2000mah cells) giving me a 10s4p 41v 8ah pack (Yeah yeah ok, 37v lol). Btw I did it like this because I am a tightass and didn't want to buy an expensive charger, I just use 2 x Aldi chargers that I got for 10 bucks each. I changed the charge port to a 4-pin, with 2 wires going to each 5s pack and both chargers connected with the one 4-pin plug. I get a range of about 14kms , which to me is bloody brilliant. So yeah, TK I just wanted to personally say 'thankyou' mate, your videos have been an enormous help to me and I would've been fu.., umm I mean 'buggered' without them! (Every single time anyone asks I always say 'there's this guy on KZbin called TK...... etc etc lol) Oh 1 more thing, mate this latest video is painful to watch, I can smell that motor from here! Your place must smell terrible! ... I was in the shit with everyone here for about 2 weeks when I cooked my motors lol!)
@WhatUpTKHere
@WhatUpTKHere 4 жыл бұрын

@paulkuvener6940 4 жыл бұрын
Wow TK thanks man, I'm honoured you actually read me lol! (Oh yeah btw I was 'channelling my inner used-car salesman' re. the range lol), i arrived at that figure by measuring the exact route I take to work and back using the rather intuitively titled app 'Map Measure', which is just under 14k's. However, It slipped my mind that it was actually you i was telling, and I failed to disclose the fact that that route contains a few 'sections of continuous angular declination' (Lol). If you factored in positive gradients and stop/starts the figure would be more accurate at around 11-12 k's.... My apologies there TK!

could try a 1000w brushless but itd need a battery that can deliver the power. Motors about 100 bucks and banggood has 'ZOP' brand 6s 8000mah (30C?) lipos that are also about 100$ea. problem is these batteries wont fit well in the E300 unless you mount a battery on top of the aloy deck. for 12s lipo you could do 3x 4s lipos, have 2 in the normal spot and the 3rd above the deck. really its best to source a bigger framed scooter unless you're cool with chopping and welding the current E300
@WhatUpTKHere
@WhatUpTKHere 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah it’s tough, because I spent $400 on the 36V 18ah battery because I want big range, and it’s just a bit limp in current delivery. Reckon I’ll stay in the 500W range but go brushless, rather than switch back to my old high power batteries. Short range just isn’t quite satisfying enough anymore.
@RSmerlinRS
@RSmerlinRS 4 жыл бұрын
@@WhatUpTKHere if you could somehow mount 2 of the 500w motors and have them both power the same wheel. Two speed controllers, won't be too hard if they're still brushed. Your battery could take it
@WhatUpTKHere
@WhatUpTKHere 4 жыл бұрын
Nah, 2 500W motors would draw 1000W total and still be too much. Tbh 500W is plenty of power for now, but if a big pile of KZbin money came in I might consider a dual battery system for double the current and range.

I missed this one. Been keeping up for a long time now! Great video TK. I am surprised the MY1020 failed. I believe since you have no current limiting anymore you might be putting excess current into the motors than they're able to output. Personally I highly recommend a Kelly Controller (Kelly Controls). It is programmable and works very well for my dune buggy. Love the vids keep them up! I recently got a e300 as well and the modding has already begun
