Lots of good memories of our C64s! My husband and I bought a 64c at an after-Christmas (Boxing Day) sale in 1987, and that was our first-ever computer. We eventually added a C128 and a "breadbin" C64 to that, as well as an Amiga 500, before we eventually switched to IBM-compatibles only (when the games we wanted to play were no longer being made in C64 or Amiga versions). One of the C64s lingered on in the basement for a year or two, and I'd play the soundtracks to the Ultima games (III, IV & V) while ironing my husband's dress shirts on the weekends. And all this before our kids were old enough to play computer games themselves!

Thank you for doing this! My first was a Vic 20, and then the C-64. I learned BASIC programming as a young teen with those computers and ran a Bulletin Board System (BBS) with a 56 Baud dial up modem and a separate phone line I paid for with a paper route. What good memories. I really enjoyed watching this, so thanks again.

I loved my commodore 64. I had more copied games then I knew what to do with. So many games.

I wonder, if you added it all up, what the total value of all pirated copies of games for the C64 would be?

Without question the greatest gaming computer 💻 of the 80's. It's one of many excellent memories of the 1980's the greatest decade to be a youngster.

Addendum: Finland is the country which has most C64s per capita. Also most Donald Duck readers per capita. Also most Coffee consumed per capita. Also Happiest country in the world, 7 times in a row. Maybe connection is there, maybe not.

I had a 64. That was my "it" computer: I did everything on it: homework. Games. Whatever. I'd print my homework on it, and turned it in to the teacher. However, that internet connection sound was a little irritable. Now, I realize that it was the start of the web, but it was still annoying.

What kind of peer to peer communication did it allow in terms of short run dial up connection? For example how easily would it have been for a model in 1984 to connect to a friend's computer in your neighbourhood via modem to exchange messages or media content? And how well could it have served for distance education or home schooling for youth?

the bulk of the video is literally word for word what the wikipedia article says... I was literally (no hyperbole) reading along. It was kinda surreal.

Yikes. Kinda sad that he was reading from the Wikipedia article and was pronouncing Tramiel as Tamriel...
