As an indie radio DJ I dont get much of a chance to look around the mainstream music scene and see what is worth checking out. A friend recently recommended I check out Nightwish and I am glad I did. This band has such an epic vibe and has an awesome live show that is now on my bucket list

Hello The KILLOGIC EFFECT ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Buenos Aires in 2012, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an wild Argentinian audience. At this concert Floor was in the band for just about 2 and a half months, joining them in the middle of an world tour as a replacement, when their previous singer couldn't perform anymore. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [The 1st Bassist of the band was Sami Vanska, he was with them until 2001. The 2nd one was Marco Hietala, as Bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us. Then very recently (May 2021) Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the 3nd Bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and very recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). Although it's true when people say that the Wacken '13 version is even better, I'm a bit surprised that practically nobody talks about the Tampere '15 version...witch is a-ma-zing!!! Floor is even more confident and happy, sings technically even better, and my God, her final note there is not human...tears my soul apart...

Hey great to hear that I'm not alone re: Floor at that legendary Tampere gig! She was at peak performance there and the Tampere GLS version for me has some great "operatic" (After Forever style) nuances at unexpected places that are so yummy! And that final note.. What I find heart warming abt this version here, apart from the already epic finale, is simply the crowd welcoming fresh Floor with more than open arms. Cheers from Amsterdam!

Wacken 2013 and Tampere 2015 are both better version in the singing department that this version. And also the video production of those is much better. Amazing sound on both especially in the singing. Wacken video has amazing pyro, participating crowd and the best outfit and make-up of Floor. Tampere has better stage and more styled cleaner video quality. I wouldn't mind a few more people reacting to Ghost love score of Tampere 2015

Floor isn’t classically trained, although many states she is (again and again and again),she went to a Rock Academie in Tilburg The Netherlands, she took extra classical lessons in a conservatory though around her time in the Rock Academy purely to satisfy her interest for music and especially the vocal techniques. She even stated herself in an interview she was never interested to have a pure classical training. She is “just’ a perfectionist interested in many many vocal techniques.

I haven't been able to find any info on how much opera (I recall that she's specifically said that it was opera) she actually studied. I believe she said it was a year, but only part time? If I'm not mistaken she studied musical theatre around the same time and I've noticed that quite a few reactors seem to confuse musical theatre with opera.

Loved your reaction and am looking forward to many more. You mentioned being an indie DJ in the U.S., but you won't hear Nightwish played on any stations that I know of in this country. They are respected throughout the world by their fans, but they aren't the type of band that gets playtime on the States' corporate radio channels. I found them through KZbin reaction channels.

That Wacken 2013 performance might be the best single performance of a song I've ever heard by any band ever, with the exception of maybe Poet and the Pendulum from their Wembly 2015 performance. These two are just perfect and I don't know how else to describe them. The best writer I've ever heard having composed works that are performed perfectly by the perfect people for the moment.

Nightwish does use backing tracks for all of the orchestration and choir parts. However, the rest of what you hear is live brilliance for this amazing band.

The live sound of the concerts the recording is awesome. They were traveling with their own highly skilled documentary director and crew who made these videos for us to continue to enjoy years later. Happy 10th anniversary of Floor with Nightwish. This show was soon after Floor joined the band mid world tour to replace Annette who was unable to continue on the tour. I understand this classic Nightwish song was added to the setlist on the tour as Floor wanted to sing it in the show and added her own style to the ending. Wow.

The sound quality and editing of the Wacken version are better but in some ways I actually prefer this one because it's a bit more raw and has more emotion. For example, you can see that Floor is still a bit uncertain about how her version of the song's ending will be received. However, when the crowd starts chanting your name that probably means they like it. 😄 And the rest, as they say, is history.

Floor joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. In this recording Floor Jansen was new to the band. The wacken 2013 recording of the same song, you'll see that she's much more in her element, and the production is MUCH bigger. The venue also. They do quite a, lot of that they have a, member called Troy who plays the illean pipes and loads of other instruments, my Walden and I want my tears, back are both very folk rock in my opinion, I'm sure others will think of loads more but to me they are definitely that style. The Nightwish Army is incoming! Great reaction! You might try reacting to the version of this song done at Wacken Open Air 2013. It has better sound recording and a bigger venue that allows the band to strech out some. Also, at the time of this recording, Floor (the singer) had only been playing with the band a few months. The Wacken show was another 6-8 months down the road and they are all more in tune with each other. You'll love it. Welcome to the Nightwish family.

I see that Gabriel has shown up and gave you a nice path at discovering Nightwish. I discovered them quite by chance...or was it fate....and this was over 3 years ago, and I haven't come close to listening to everything of theirs! I think that I am one of the older, hard rock and heavy metal guys, of Nightwish fans, who started listening to the greats of rock and roll and the beginnings of heavy metal in the mid 1960's as an 8 year old boy! Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Black Sabbath with Ozzy Osbourne, Nazareth, Grand Funk Railroad, Led Zeppelin, Steppenwolf, and the list goes on and on for me! nice to this again, Floor was just in Nightwish, as a stand in. She had to learn the setlist in 24 hours (there is a docu about that on you tube) Now she mad this song totally her own. like all songs. If you listen to the Wacken live version, you will already hear the difference, while she as still a stand in. European Metal is pretty interesting Sir. This is an epic song, but Nightwish has way more harder songs. The lyrics are always deep, real thinkers. I just love this band....and a bit proud of our Dutch Floor Jansen

All the music nightwish has to offer is more or less EPIC! And for the celtic...well not celtic but Finnish history. Amorphis, they are making music from Finnish national epoc Kalevala. Chek out for example Silent water's or Bee...or anything else, all the song's are awsome.

Great reaction and this is not even the best recording of this song. Floor joined them 2 months before this recording, 8 months after this she killed it in front of 82,000 people at Wacken Open Air. There is a lot more where this came from. Their catalogue is huge. Every song is different, but they're all this quality. They are real musicians who can bring it live. Thank American corporate radio for keeping these gems hidden. Since you liked the Keltic vibe... try " I want my tears back" from the same concert in Buenos Aires and be in total awe of their uillean pipes player (Irish bag pipes), besides the crowd pulling off their own show 🤘🏽

This is after about 2.5 months of Floor with the band, Wacken is 10 months. More time to really become a tight band. I think she said that her version of the ending (original is different, lead singer stops much earlier) was first tried out in South America, so just a small number of performances before this one. Wacken may be technically better and this is slightly different, but also an official live for good reasons.

First off, Did you not see a balcony? Im glad you have known about them but I havent, I am an Indie music DJ i dont listen to much mainstream music at all. Do you know how many awesome mainstream bands there are all around the world? One does not have time to sample all of them which is why we have this video here.
