Love the scape. It's like a natural shore bank where it gets deeper on the right. And the plants are up closer to shore. I love just dropping stuff in a tank and seeing how it comes out. You can always move it around later. That's the beauty of it. But I think you nailed it on the first shot

I would just like to tell you how thankful I am for the videos you make. You inspired me to make my own 65 gallon fish tank which I made a year ago and sort of looks like this tank. This video instilled confidence in me about my aquascape. I’ve been watching you for five years now and I would like to congratulate you for all the people you’ve inspired, how much you’ve grown, and how many people you’ve educated about fish tanks

You are a true inspiration. Our closest fish store is an hour away (Petsmart) so we don't have materials on hand. The only plants we can get locally are basically hornwort and water lettuce. We have collected swords, ferns, and lillies from the lake and creaks near by. Started off with a turtle for the kids and with your inspiration, we now have 6 tanks and counting. Keep up the good work! You are awesome!

Officially my new favorite tank in the gallery! Love the plants and aquascaping. If the HC Cuba carpet doesn't work out, try replacing it with Monte Carlo. Same type of look but should do much better without high light and CO2. ....although I'd love to see those AI Primes on this tank and some CO2 as well :)

I'm excited to see how this tank changes and evolves over time. I think a lot of beginners want to have that finished polished aquascaped look right off the bat. But for many of us we end up starting out with relatively bare tanks. And we have many trials and errors with them. It's often hard to imagine in your head exactly where the scape is headed.

Joey, Next aquarium (and moving forward) you should TRY to learn to aquascape. Show us YOU learning how to scape, over the course of many tanks. Not that you will get it perfect on the first try, or 2nd, but the point is we get to see how you learn how to do this stuff. And manage plants and a tank. That would help people move on from a beginner aquascaper to someone who can make something they can be proud of.

As someone just getting into planted tanks and planted tank off challenges, I have fallen in love with this part of the hobby. I think Joey hits the nail on the head with the common attitude when approaching posting a scape and comparing yourself to others and then feeling hesitant because you feel you'll get torn down, but also ecstatic because you surpassed your expectations for yourself! It's so great to have such amazing role models in the fish keeping community that understand the struggles of the small fish keeper and youtuber. Thank you again for setting a positive example and encouraging others. It really makes a difference.

for a cost effective low tech planted tank just use Flourish Excel and Osmocote slow release pellets from the garden section anywhere in the substrate instead of a substrate enriched product. pound for pound cheaper and less messy IMO. keep up the great work brother

Wonderful, simple scape! I think you're right, we get too caught up in the rules and opinions of other people when we're setting up a planted tank. We should just go with our creative eye and what we feel looks the best for our tank. If the cuba doesn't work out, crypts or chain sword would be my suggestions for a hardy, fast growing plant that can fill up the space around those rocks.

Nice scape! I like what you did with the wood. It turned out really eye catching. The open space for the barbs is excellent as they really need it to feel comfortable. I am so pleased that you decided to do a planted tank. I do see a potential problem with your H.C. Cuba. Tropica says this culture requires high light AND high CO2. Maybe if you tie it to the top of the wood you can get to take but I think where it is now is not going to work without adding CO2 and better lighting. I've had good results in low-tech tanks with dwarf hairgrass. It grows slowly but it grows. It does benefit from enriched substrate and of course CO2 will dramatically increase growth potential of all plants, even those that don't need it. Can't wait to see the results!

Nice proporsions of the materials and a tried and tested island design, cant go wrong with that. Might be a bit hectic with that many barbs though! Harlequin rasboras are one of my favorites. The only pro scaper is nature itself and don't think it goes by what other's think is "the right way". You as the daily tank viewer is all that should matter, everyone is an expert if they love what they see. Our first mistake is thinking anyone other than nature itself is a pro. Imagine if a pro scaper swam in a natural environment and said, "omg! That plant shouldn't be their!!!", I'd be looking at them like they had two head's.

Was wondering if you would entertain the idea of setting up two tanks side-by-side in the racking system that work in sync with each other. For example, one would have a style of fish that does something to benefit what’s in the other tank and vice versa. Would be kind of cool to see them not only work that way together but benefit each other in a way that they couldn’t if they were two individual tanks. Just a thought not really sure how to pull it off but figured if anyone could you could. And also have the water circulate from one to the other for maximum effect

Dayton Sweet -no, I meant it to be open to interpretation from Joey or others with the ability to think outside the box. “Not the simple big fish eat little fish “ .. maybe a tank that produces high waste which then in turn feeds a planted tank etc.

@@just4fun-family145 I figured, hence why I was being sarcastic. It would be interesting to set up 2 tanks where one had lots of fish and the other was more shrimp/plants and the shrimp and plants tank actually filtered both of the tanks. Like a "no filter" build.
