In 2017, my yorkie Bricks was attacked by a pitbull and the way he was left was a decision to either, fight to give him another chance or give him the needle. I pull the triggered and paid the doc to see if he can help him live again. He made it, he is here now at 14 years old. Bricky is alive and well. I say if you hear an inner voice, go with it. Glad Helen survived Joey. ❤

I must have missed something. If it had a very small chance of making the long trip then why was it even attempted? Again. Maybe I missed something
@thekingofdiyАй бұрын
nothing missed. best time to ship in canada is the winter. We can control the cold with heat packs, nothing can be done if something happens in the summer with the heat. If everyone planned around "something might happen"... not even your fish store would have fish for sale. All fish are generally shipped in. things happen, but rarely.
@str0wn4g2Ай бұрын
my right ear missed out on a lot too
@piraveenkokil1728Ай бұрын
That's the reality of shipping fish my friend . The reality of the fish you buy at the stores is you don't see the number of fishes that died during shipping in , unboxing, quarantine .
@BeardieD28 күн бұрын
How about just don't ship animals like this? It's cruel! If you really must put an animals life in danger for your pleasure then at least go there in person and escort the animal so you can make sure there is no stress involved to that animal. If you can't do this then simply DONT...

If the room is heated, then the water in the tanks are warm, right? I thought floating the bag in the tank water for half hour would of slowing brought up the temperature just like any new fish u get? Throwing her straight in would of been a shock. Glad she made it, super cool!

Well, this Ellen is happy that Helen made it so far. What a pretty (and tough) little ray. I hope she has a long, fulfilling life with you. Talking about overcoming adversity, and your choice of name though, there's a song by the late, great, Stan Rogers called The Mary Ellen Carter, about some sailors who raise a sunken ship... One of my favourite "time to get up and do something" tunes... And Helen Keller was remarkable woman. She and her interpreter, Anne Sullivan, were the poster children for overcoming adversity. It's a good name, Joey. Best of luck to you (and Helen!).

Stingrays are such delicate creatures. I work at a pet store for decades so I've seen my share of losses. Fresh and particularly salt varieties. Being in that bag for that long and all the issues it went through is amazing it overcame the odds. Especially the water quality in the bag as the ray urinates. I could see the red from under its body. We usually call it ammonia burns which can take days to subside. I honestly think the water cooling put the animal in a sort of stasis, lowering its metabolic rate and increasing its survival chance. Glad this story has a happy ending.

@jeffharris4558Ай бұрын
There’s an old saying ‘it’s not dead until it’s warm and dead’ the first thing I’d have done is float it to warm the water, it transfers warm quicker than air does, temperature shock by chucking it in like that was a terrible idea, but then what do I know, I’m not ‘The King of DIY’ fish keeper. Also, fun fact, if you turn a bag full of water and a fish inside the fish can stay the right way up! Wow! Amazing! It’s almost as if they’re in liquid rather than a solid.
