That's brilliant! What I love about your videos and the projects you show is that you demystify everything so the average person can realize that with proper planning, the right basic tools, and some common sense they too can make their own custom creations for this hobby. Thank you, Joey!

That is a hell of a stand, I used your basic design for my 40 gallon tank and it great. But It's great to see you using almost the same design to build this monster.

Was it not possible to build the tank in the actual room it's going into? I'm liking this series. The outside 2x8 framing evens out the face of it all. I think the only thing I would have done differently is used 4x4s instead of 2x8s but I'm not sure how your tanks are sitting on everything. the 2x8s may have been the better option. Keep it up Joey
@thekingofdiy
@thekingofdiy 10 жыл бұрын
A 2X8 laid horizontal and on edge is much stronger than a 4x4. Almost twice as strong in fact. www.awc.org/pdf/wsdd/c2b.pdf A 4x4 works great as a post, but that's about as useful as they get. A 4x4 in a stand is simply a waste of money. Since its cheaper to buy the much stronger and easier to work with 2x8. Even a 2x6 is stronger than a 4x4 laid horizontal and on edge. The use of 4x4s in aquarium stands is simple misconception of their strength.

i want to stack two 20 longs. but i also want the structure to be stable because of young children that may knock into it. so im unsure about the heights i should make the levels at. i would like them high enough that i dont have to press my face on the floor to view the bottom tank. any advice?

Hey there Joey (Love your videos.), I am planning on building a stand for a 6' tank and was thinking of using 2x6" supports. Would they be strong enough to not to have a center brace? I had built a previous 6' rack from your design, a couple of years ago, from 2x4s and it has held up great. However, for this rack, I would like to access the lower shelf for more aquariums without the brace. I found a related video about a similar build. --> www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1962057 Also if I wanted it longer to support some shelving by 10-12 " could I still use the same type design and put the supporting braces close to the tank corners but have them extend out? As in your Video, it looked like you had 19" divided evenly on each end so the tank would have a full view. Any feedback would be helpful. Thanks!

Tough stand Joey. I was like woh this is huge when you started to get that second level on, btw that was a lil funny. Too bad Eye of the Tiger is copyrighted :P Really like that squaring jigs you were using. Will definitely have to get me some of those. I never knew they had they for timber. I suppose its only logical. Great work man! can't wait for the fish/man cave ;) lol, thats what I reckon you're building anyways.

Unfortunately do to where the support is in relation to the load bearing weight, I can not see any of it on the corners. All the weight is shifted off the corners and now placed on the support joists of the stand. Thanks for the video and realy hope there is a better way to stack the tanks.

***** That's cool! Thank you! I don't know about braceless? That would have to be really thick acrylic. I've seen a few people comment on "learning" to build acrylic from youtube and having them explode all over the floor. Cost the owner BIG $. I would add some tips on bracing the tank in as many places as you can think of. Like reinforced corners and seams. Let people know the failure points and how to prevent disasters with proper design techniques. Add as much as you can. I know I want to learn. Thanks. Daniel.
