Nice stands but the easy part is to understand that a 2'x4' set on it's side like that will have a shear capacity of apox. 400#'s at 48". So yes the weight are on the corner vertical 2x4 but if the span at center is greater than 800#'s(front and back) at 48" than there could be problems. But in his case he created center supports so that'll mitigate it.

I have built many things in my life time. Here I am going to be 72 yrs. old and refuse to pay for a fish tank stand at the pet stores that are worthless.. I already have the lumber, Now all I need to get are the screws... Thank you so much I've learned so much watching your videos... I love all the tanks you have... I will be working on a stand for a 60 gallon tank... I'm excited to get started... Again thank you...

Very timely, as I've got to build/get hubby to build a rack for a 40 gallon or two (or more). I'd been looking at workshop racks and the like, but I prefer this cost-effective and versatile method, and believe it'll be more sturdy in the long run. Thanks for sharing!

Have you ever considered cinder blocks or ever better concrete block? Especially in a dedicated fish room with a concrete floor. Pro: modular, strong and fairly inexpensive. Can easily be painted with water proof paint. Con? If there are I would like to know. The flat/table top can be wood, aluminum, etc.

That is an awesome design. I built one for a 90 gallon using cedar 4 x 4s with half lap joints and threaded rods. This is a LOT simpler. Did you run the top 2 x 4s through a jointer so they were dead flat???

What's the thickness of the plywood?
@PerplexiaX
@PerplexiaX 5 жыл бұрын
That is so simple... I had my 20G sitting on what I call a wrap-around, where I just simply wrapped the four upright 2x4 corner beams with other 2x4s, one on the bottom, and one around the top, with a 1/2 inch plywood on top of that. Now, I might be getting my niece's 80G, and if I do, I'm definitely going to follow this design, unless her stand is still good! I don't need it so high, though... what you made is about 40 inches tall, I'm guessing (?)... I want this 80G stand at about 25 inches tall! Is there anything extra I should know if I do this? There's also the cheap way to go... 6 piles of cinderblocks and a few 4x4s lined up alongside each other for the top where the tank would sit! (lol) :-)

Hopefully you read this... I currently have a 29 gal and I just bought a 55 gal. I'm wanting to make a stand similar to your and put the 29 gal on the bottom. My question is this, I live in a wood frame house that is roughly 8 years old. Would that be too much weight for my floors? Or should I just make 2 separate stands?

I went with your design, love it by the way and all your videos. for my 166 gal tank. I made the stand 8ft, long by 19” in width. 2’6” high. Would you put 6 legs in the design or ten legs. I know more the better/ stronger or would 6 legs be enough do you think.

Hello! I really liked the channel. I signed up for this. I have a question: I have studied foreign channels, the United States, Germany about aquarium fish. Almost everywhere in these countries, racks and stands are made of wood. Why did you all choose wood as the material instead of metal? We in Russia for these purposes in 90% use metal. Thank you very much for your work!

Hello, I'm currently building a tank stand for a lady that has a 36x18 tank. I have the stand at 40x23. Is this too big for the tank? I have the corners supported with two extra board (legs) like you are showing. Do you think this will work? or should I make it to the same size the tank is? Thank you, Vicki

Since the tanks have rims the stands don't need to tops. Right? Do you check for pressure points where the tank meets the stand? It's hard to find cheap lumber that is also straight....:)

@@davidwayneprins Thanks, so much, I bought a used 100 gallon tank and stand, the tank is fine, but, well the stand is not square, flat, level and the doors too small for canister. It's going to vary based on your tank's footprint, how high you want your stand and where you put your first shelf and if you have multiple shelves. Keep in mind a 2x4 is actually 1 1/2 by 3 1/2. A Google Docs spreadsheet would be handy
