so in conclusion, to have the least heat in your car: when parked: put up the reflector on the windshield as well as cracking your windows slightly when about to hop in: open the 2 front doors and swing one of the doors continuously for a hot minute (pun intended) after hopping in: turn on the AC and roll up all the windows.

I would suggest closing the windows pretty quickly after the car has been rolling for a bit, probably around the time that the temp inside the car is the same as outside if you can help it. I usually roll the windows up after just a minute or less.

The door "pumping" works - not only for cars, also for rooms (if they have other way for air to escape, otherwise it would probably only throw air a bit around), especially small ones, like WC - if you want to vantilate bad smell faster, you can do it - but in this case only one direction should have fast movement, while the other slow to avoid pulling the smell on your side instead of vents or window (I don't remember which direction to push air out the other way). In cars' cases it doesn't matter, since we are fine both ways, we only want to pull out hot air from the car and push colder air from outside in.

The best results I have ever gotten in my Honda Ridgeline, is when I crack the windows an inch and the sunroof four inches. I have rain guards on my windows and sunroof so there is no sun coming in when I crack the sunroof just 4 inches. The reasoning behind this is convection: as the car warms up air is drawn through the windows, hot air escapes out the sunroof, creating a continual airflow. Yes, The car is still hot, but significantly cooler than it would’ve been if all the windows were closed. When rain is expected in the forecast, I leave the sunroof closed and get what I can get.

I try to park in the shade. The reflector is useful in keeping light off the dashboard shelf under the windshield. That shelf radiates a lot of heat into the cabin. When starting out I open the windows fully for one minute because cabin air is always hotter than the ambient air when a car has been sitting in the sun. The a/c is on from the get-go, so that by the time you close your windows, the internal ductwork will be cool.

I came to live in the Caribbean, and the things I learned to keep the interior of my car at a cool temperature are: put tint on the windows, put vent visors, leave an inch below one inch, put the window shade on. front glass, if you have a sunroof, leave it in the one-inch open mode and if you get a dash cover, it is a great option to take care of the dash and so it doesn't fade or broken.

In any event the difference is large enough in this test to draw reasonable conclusions. Who would've though that driving with AC windows up was the best lmao, we all know that. Not to sound like the smart guy here, but your testing was skewed. You should have had the temp guages in the cars the whole time. Going into the cars afterward and holding the gauges up while the temp increased isn't very accurate. I crack my windows, and use a shade visor (which you didn't do) so I know it makes a huge difference from when I didn't do either of those things. Please redo your experiment, because I do enjoy your show, and so do 12.5 million other people.

Agreed, sensor probes exist for a reason. Myself I leave the windows down an inch and use the reflective visor as well but I do one thing they didn’t test, I leave my sunroof partially open too.

Okay but Western USA and Australia, at least habitated parts of Australia in the south, have very very similar climates. And if you want to talk about the hottest parts of each region, Florida gets hotter than any part of Australia. But okay there buddy it's not a competition, but if it were a you'd lose.

You guys are using the wrong thermometer! you might as well stick that probe thermometer in your butt and measure how hot your body feels. You should have used a ambient thermometer that measures both temp and humidity plus lock peak readings.

Cman Hes not wrong, temps in parked cars comes down to a lot more than they did in this video. The interior size and color, the body color, window tint, window size, insulation levels and quality, interior materials, exterior materials, and many more things go into causing a car to get hot inside
@nickmccain65984 жыл бұрын
@@kasmith_ I heard window tint doesn't make a difference. Maybe while you sit in it the tint will keep the hot direct sun off. But sitting for an hour. Tint won't keep the heat out

I've always wondered about the reflectors in the windshield. Though it is keeping the sunlight off the seats/dashboard, the heat is still entering in through the glass and getting trapped inside the vehicle. I bet if you threw a thermometer between the reflector and the glass, you'd find the hottest temps of all.
@johndimech89454 жыл бұрын
Masca Trails Absolutely. I was thinking the same. And, I wish they would have tried putting the reflected on the outside of the windshield. I'm sure that would have recorded the the lowest temperature of all the tested scenarios done with windows up.

first you need to roll the windows all the way down and evacuate the heat from the cabin before the AC can effectively cool in the summer, otherwise you are just going to be circulating heat.

so one of those arizona people here... What I usually do (because my current car has a sunroof) is have that tipped open (not slid open but lifted) and then crack the (manual) cover so that MOST of the sunroof is covered, but there is a gap for the hot air at the roof to go straight up out the sunroof crack. That, along with the window reflector, help make sure that I can touch the steering wheel in the summer. :) Cracking the windows is often used in conjunction with the other two techniques, along with the rapid "waving" of the door, like you showed.
