@@riohenry6382 Then skip the ones you don't like, it's a drag and click of the mouse. It's not like you have to fast forward though a pile of magnetic tape and locate the beginning of the one you want. And how, as one example, how could you possibly not like the Billy Joel lullaby? One of the most poignant and beautiful pieces of music ever written. And yes, I love their stuff, all the way from the medieval, to the current pop renditions, and everything in between. They have discs that are totally music from antiquity, buy one of those. :-) You can fire your CDs or whatever into Itunes or equivalent and rate down( or even delete the pieces you don't want to hear) and sort them high to low stars, then it is totally automatic. Some people will gripe in heaven.

The great part singing of the 16 th/ early 17th century did not die. It survived in the mid 20th century, whereupon I thought the 'War', or the terrible iconoclasms of this century might have killed it. But no - I can hear Thomas Tallis TODAY. Its not just musical ability, but tireless dedication and study that is keeping great music alive for the rest of us to be able to hear. God Bless Kings Singers.

I saw two concerts of these guys spread over a couple of years (this exact group, every member) in the church, sitting about 20 feet away, with no microphones. They were the best two concerts I have ever attended, and both times when I realized they were done, my mind went, "No". There was also a funny occurrence in one. The church was always clean as a pin, but when outside doors are being constantly opened and closed it happens. They were in about the middle of one of the concerts and a roach walked across the stage, right in front of them, you could tell it had been in the sauce and it was moving pretty slowly, and Jeremy (IIRC) picked up the toe of his shoe and it walked right under it, whereupon it didn't walk any more, if you catch my drift. They introduced the next song, which was a Beatles cover, and the rest of them laughed when he said it. I suspect that the order may have been rearranged. The front few rows laughed, too, the ones that could see it. The people further back were probably wondering what was funny about the Beatles. :-) BTW, I heard not one even tiny error in the entire two concerts. Just exquisitely excellent musicians. Dynamics, timing, pitches, annunciation, all of it perfect, to my ear anyway, and I sang extensively, though non professionally. Two or three hours of joy. There are other truly superb acapella choirs and groups around, Voces 8, Voctave, Take 6, Home Free (just to mix it up a bit), but these guys are a truly one of a kind sound. I don't know how many of their discs I have in my library, but it is a bunch of them. And after watching this, I am going to go find some more with as much as possible non overlapping songs.

While that may have been the single whitest rendition of Down By The River To Pray ever 🥰, this entire concert was an absolute joy to listen to. I especially love that the madrigals sung were actual madrigals instead of ballets (#MusicNerd). "As Vesta was from Latmos Hill descending" holds a special place in my heart, partly because I am trash for through-composed music, partly because I am also trash for Elizabeth I, and partly because it was inspired by an Italian work "Il Trionfo di Dori" and I am a big ol' fan girl for Italian music. That 40-part Tallis piece was AMAZING. So much work went into realizing that with only six voices, and what a payoff. All my love and appreciation for all the production work that went into filming this. There are a *lot* of things to manage, and it's absolutely seamless. Well done, all.

Spem in alium is truly awe inspiring, and it belongs in a great sacred space like Westminster Abbey. This generation of the King's Singers seems to have a wider range of pleasant-to-the-ear music than does the new generation, who seem to prefer closer and more dense harmonies, sometimes not quite so enjoyable. This is a really great post, and I appreciated it tremendously!

Sometimes a commenter starts such a list, and others flesh it out in the replies, and often the original poster upgrades their missing or incorrect titles. I see this happen fairly frequently on channels like Cateen's. Those comments often get voted up or pinned to the top, as well, which makes sense, so next time, feel free to start one. :-) It would be cool if the channel owner could open the comment up, Wiki style, to allow direct inclusions.

You only waited 12 years for this goofy reply, but thanks, never noticed that. And now I'll never unsee it, so 'thanks' for that, too. :-)

Someone uploaded a clip from this of Thomas Weelkes' As Vesta was from Latmos Hill descending, but the sound is messed up. I downloaded it and fixed the sound, do you want it to upload? I noticed you don't have an individual video of that one.

Most likely. Or relative pitch. Their intonation is just too good

They probably don’t. Some of the best musicians just have really good relative pitch.

You won't find a better countertenor than David Hurley.

Absolutely, some can. There are even guys that can, WAY above. Go look up Dimash. He sings notes that, no kidding, are off the top of the piano's range. It's insane. They are so called whistle tones, obviously, but notes. I think he's normally a baritone, which is often where counter tenors come from. The counter tenor in Pentatonix has a seven octave range using sub harmonics, fries, chest, head, and whistle tones, and he is also very, very good. This countertenor (both of them actually) are two of my overall favorites.
