The influence this UK band had on American pop culture cannot be overestimated. Nobody had ever heard anything like this before. Topped out at #7 on the Billboard pop chart and in fact was the first hard rock single ever to chart here in the States

That's Rock 'N' Roll baby!!!!! I was 15 years-young in 1964 and I'll never forget the first time I heard this song on the radio!!! Made me a Kinks fan for life and my friend and I in high school took them over the Beatles in a heart beat!!! This song has been covered by more than 75 bands since 1964 Kinks version! The guitar riff was the best I had heard from ANY British band during the 'British Invasion'! After this it was "All Day And All of The Night', and I was hooked!!!! The Kinks were 'Thee Bad Ass Band' from across the pond!!

What nobody really understands is JUST how far ahead of everybody else the Kinks really were! Satisfaction by The Stones was released in Jun/Jul of 65 ... You Really Got Me was released 4th August 1964!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is an entire YEAR before the Stones ... The Kinks are completely unsung pioneers of Rock Music ...

One of the first songs to use distortion on guitar. Fun fact, they slashed their speakers with a razorblade to produce this sound, causing the Fuzz pedal to be introduced to the public to stop musicians from destroying their gear, which was used by the Rolling Stones in Satisfaction.
