To fix the guard on your western knife get JB weld and squeeze it in under the guard that meets the plastic or leather handle piece after you clamp the handle in your vise tight wrap the handle with leather or cloth so your don't mar it up in the vise now get two sliding wood clamps that opens far enough to clamp on both sides of the brass guard to the other end of your vise jaws at the back of the handle to clamp it up while in the vise tight there will be jb weld squeeze out when clamped up just clean it up when it is clamped with acetone and some rags I also put tape on the blade where the ricasso meets the guard about ab 1/8 inch up so i can clean up around the guard.Let it stay clamped up in vise over night.

That's a Gerber Magnum folding hunter. Early 1980s. They were quite expensive for the time and are very collectible today as far as Gerber goes. Other good finds today as well. As always, love the videos.... hope you enjoy the ATL Blade Show. SF brother.

That knife @19:22 is an OKC (Ontario Knife Company) one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the USA. They make the old hickory line of knives, and a full line of SP (Spec Plus) knives. Lots of them designed for military use. I have the SP10 Marine Raider Bowie that I made a video about recently building a leather survival pack using that knife as the base. Sadly OKC shut their legendary doors recently. So if you find any on your knife hunts I would recommend picking them up if they tickle your fancy when you see them because they just keep going up in price on the secondary market. *edit - just got to the part of the video where you called and bought it, glad you did. For that price, it's almost unbeatable.

Nice haul. Place where you got the OD Kershaw, on that middle shelf all the way on the left was, I believe, a Buck OD Bucklite 422 like the one you reshaped the blade on a few months back. And I think there was a partially serrated Blur laying next to the OD one you got. Maybe on your way back home you can stop back in and double check. You and the Knife Nurse enjoy the blade show and have a blessed weekend.

A knife like that western fixed blade is similar to the knife i carried when I was young. Far as i know the version I had was carried through ww2 by my grandfather. I think mine was a fifteenth brand though? Kbar perhaps? Wish i still had it but it broke. I was listening to talk annoy repairing the loose guard, and i know you know more than me about them old knives. What i used to do was take very thin, and strong wire and wrap a half hitch between the guard and the handle and continue to wrap it until the wiggle was gone then go one wrap past that. Should last indefinitely. Works on any leather handled fixed blades. Can't recall who taught it to me...

Solid buy on that Gerber folding hunter. The blade shape and finger grooves aee always so satisfying to me, and theyre built like tanks. Ive been looking for a sheath for mine for a while. Also, those other prices were also quite high. $70 for that camillus leverlock is like twice the normal price, though the leverlock mechanism is pretty sweet if you like fidgeting lol.
