Love watching the pigs!!! We used to have one it was my moms pride and joy of all our animals and then a dog ripped his neck open so my mom was trying to get it better but it got maggots in his neck then my mom would pour stuff on his neck and got him better his neck healed up and then someone stole him from us!!!! My mom was devastated to say the least she cried so much from losing him after all that hard work of getting him to heal beautifully!!!

When feeding the pigs it’s usually best to leave their feed in the flat pans so they can eat all of it and you are getting maximum yield from your feed unless you want the pigs to eat the dirt as well.

I've had 2 solar energizers...both failed. If you get one, keep the warranty info handy and be prepared to replace it.

We have 3, two we have had for a few years without any issues. The other one is about 6 months old and so far so good. Hopefully they stay that way.

Hey Nate noticed you got your feed barrels on the ground. The condensation will mold the bottom of the barrel. Looks like you’re getting into the rhythm of your homestead. An the pigs are looking fantastic

Thanks for the tip on the barrels, I'll let Nate know. They are on an elevated mound of gravel so they do not sit in water but I could see condensation still being something to watch.

I love the solar idea for the gate. With all the trees around the gate, will the solar panels get enough light to consistently charge 24/7/365? You know best as you can better observe the area. I would hate to have the system fail unknowingly and some of your beloved animals wander onto the road. Was a little skeptical of your pig waterer but seeing it in action has sold me. It looks efficient to fill, stable and easy access for the pigs. Hope the new nipple hardware does the trick. You might want to patent that and sell it.

Yes, we have used the solar charger for all the poly wires for the pigs over the past few months. Where we have it for the gate it is actually south facing and gets a large amount of sun. It is a 30-watt solar charger attached to a battery that will hold a charge for 30 days for what we use it for. This gives us a back up for when it may not be as sunny :)
