Chalamet sucks. Dune 2 was great but not because of him as Paul Atreides. For the direction, the ensemble amazing cast, action, lore and visuals. It's slightly overrated. I won't bother with this boring Bob Dylan biopic. I don't care if Chalamet plays him well. He's such an overrated actor now. He's just like any other talented young male actor of his age in their mid to late 20s.

Dune 2 is great, but it's not on another level. Lot of great movies in 2024, but there won't be movies on other levels. I think that Alien Romulus, Heretic and Nosferatu are just as great or better! I wouldn't say they are on other levels. Calm down.

Nice list! Love to see others appreciate indies like Love Lies Bleeding and My Old Ass. Juror #2 punches above its weight, kinda like Mass from a few years ago (it also looks to be neglected by awards bodies). Babygirl was mis-represented in ads as an erotic thriller, but is quite good if seen as an character-driven drama. Happy watching.

Great discussion. Completely agree the over the top ending of The Substance really tainted the first two thirds of the movie, which were amazing! Anora was a terrific surprise. We had no idea it was so funny. Wow! A very good comedy/drama. We weren't fans of Juror #2. Pretty disappointing for us, given some of the glowing reviews. Saturday Night sounds worthwhile. Thanks! Can't wait to see Nosferatu. It doesn't look like it's coming to my slice of Alaska so we might have to until it's streaming.😢 Still need to see A Complete Unknown. My stepdaughter, who's not at all a Dylan fan, even loved it. Dune 2 was fun, that's for sure. Not my #1 but in my top 10.

Great themes and unique delivery in all aspects of it 4. Transformers: One - Shocked how much I liked this. Great characters, story and beautiful animation 3. Strange Darling - Went into this one blind and everyone who is thinking of watching it should do the same 2. The Wild Robot - Loved the characters/ story and packs a huge emotional punch. Once it hits a certain scene (anyone who’s seen it will probably know ) I was teary eyed the rest of the way through 1. Dune 2 - Absolute masterpiece. This is what a modern golden age film looks and feels like. Every aspect of it I was just in total awe. That Paul speech… goosebumps

I felt the EXACT SAME as you about The Substance. Great film but the ending took me out of it and just didn’t work for me. Def worth watching and Demi Moore was excellent!

Don’t have a full top 10 cuz I haven’t seen enough movies with having a baby - but what I enjoyed: Wicked. Just…literally almost perfect adaptation of that book/show to movie. And live singing with proper technique!! Ariana made me laugh, and Cynthia made my heart break. Dune 2 - wish I could have loved it as much as everyone else, but I couldn’t ignore the things they changed from the book. But the acting was incredible, cinematography is incredible. the things Denis did right were great especially that incredible worm ride. I just don’t understand why certain story beats were changed so drastically 🤷‍♀️ Rebel Ridge - enjoyed it for a well executed action movie, and recognize the star Pierre as a future superstar Deadpool & Wolverine: super fun movie, though the plot is a bit silly and didn’t affect me the way DP1 did Agatha All Along - this show was FIRE!! I loved literally every second of it X-men 97 - a masterclass in efficient storytelling Furiosa - sooooo bummed this didn’t do better in theaters, because I think this might be George’s BEST film, and we did a Mad Max watch of all other movies before it. Chris was sooooo GD good! And his ending?! Poetic

The Dune 2 score will NOT be nominated for an Oscar, unfortunately. It was ruled ineligible for a nomination due to supposedly re-using too much of the first score. While they ignored the Academy's ruling initially and submitted the film for consideration, it did not make the Short List for original score... so it is out of contention.

@@Bayard1503 I only say supposedly because I don't know for a fact they did reuse enough that they were actually ineligible, and Zimmer himself had said he did not think that was true, that is just what I had seen reported. Not saying it isn't true, but since I don't know for sure, I am not going to say they certainly did reuse enough of the music to be taken out of the running.

I'm not only one of the people that had The Substance on their list but it was my number 1 and no 2 My Old Ass. Agree that the last 3rd, in particular, of The Substance not for everyone. Having said that haven't seen half the film's you mention but look forward to seeing.Great start to 2025 Nosferatu (realised Jan 1st here) and Wallace and Gromit Vengeance Most Foul (realised Jan 3rd)both fantastic examples of film making.

My top 5: Wild Robot Dune Part 2 Deadpool and Wolverine Gladiator 2 Kingdom of the Apes 🎉 Conclave was a wet fart. Hated it. Furiosa was drawn out and boring by the end. Nosferatu was out in 2025 but I liked it alot. Aaron Taylor Johnson was in a different movie. He looked like he wasn't taking his scenes seriously.

I really like and even love four of those. Dune 2 and Kingdom of the Apes are two of my top favorites quality blockbusters of the year. I really thought that Kingdom of the Apes was a better and more interesting film than War of the Apes, or other major flicks this summer like Furiosa, Trap, Bad Boys 4, Quiet Place Day 1 or Fall Guy. Apes was a good solid movie, but a little long. So four of these movies are great. The other one is Gladiator 2!
