Sometimes, needs trump talent. He's going to have difficulty holding up against the run, meaning him as a full time starter in a 4-3 could be problematic. If SF can't address the run defense, he'll never be in position to show his worth as a pass rusher.

If we can get our own Chris Jones. Bro, thats a not brainer. Derrick Harmon. We need someone like that if we are to beat KC. Just my .02

@RajK-e3n chris Jones was a second round pick.... we can draft green and I really think we need to do some trades to grab an extra second round pick...that would literally change our draft...if we have the extra two we can go OT and DT

I'm starting to think trading back is a very feasible option for the 49ers. Not necessarily to get more picks, but to improve their Day 2 and 3 picks through swaps.
@zackhurwitz9441Күн бұрын
That would be ideal. Still walk away with Membou or Nolen.
@googleisskynet7312Күн бұрын
@@zackhurwitz9441 There are a lot of good options in the 1st round that make sense for the 49ers: Membou, Banks, Simmons, Conerly, Nolen, Harmon, Grant, Walker, etc. If they trade back, still get one of those guys in the 1st round, and then improve their 2nd and 3rd round picks and draft more OL/DL with those picks, I'll be happy. I won't be happy unless they spend at least two of their first three picks on OL/DL.

If they can trade back to 13-17 and still get their guy and hopefully grab another 2nd rd pick, I say do it.
@googleisskynet731222 сағат бұрын
@ Ok, but would you rather have one gem or several winning starters? When you really understand this team, you realize they need a lot more than most people realize: *a right tackle with future left tackle upside (McKitvitz is a swing on any other team and Trent is 37) *a run-stuffing defensive lineman (they have no one matching this profile on the team and they paid dearly for it last year). *a legit edge rusher opposite Bosa (this has not been addressed for years). *a real center (Brendel is dookie at the point of attack and would not be starting on any other team). *an impact right guard (Puni is a natural LG, which leaves RG open to someone who moves better to their right). *an impact linebacker (LB3 if Greenlaw stays, LB2 if Greenlaw goes or can't stay healthy). *a true free safety (they have only strong safeties on this roster). *a legitimate slot corner (if Demo kicks outside and Moody doesn't return, they have no legit slot option). *a legit backup tight end (Kittle is 31 and hasn't ever had a legit backup). *a legit vertical threat at WR (the 49ers' receiver room is devoid of this type of receiver, which is pivotal to the scheme they run). *RB depth (who knows what CMC is going to be going forward. Mason is an RFA. Mitchell is a UFA and won't be back. Guerendo is nice, but raw and might not ever be a true RB1. They were also terrible in short yardage and the low red zone last season). *a legit backup QB (Brock needs genuine competition to be his best, and he also needs a guy he is confident in to win games so he doesn't play hurt).

Wow. He opened my eyes with Derrick Harmon. I went and saw his highlights. My goodness.
@googleisskynet731223 сағат бұрын
Watching his film had the opposite effect on me because I went and re-watched Chris Jones' film after watching Harmon. I don't see that comparison at all. Jones was way more athletic and lean and explosive coming out of college. Harmon is probably 8-10% more bodyfat and doesn't have a good first step, which tells me his lower body needs to get a lot stronger. He'll be playing against more athletic and stronger linemen. If he can't get off the snap and get low before they get hands on him, he'll lose all that natural leverage potential and he'll be Kinlaw 2.0
@RajK-e3n23 сағат бұрын
@@googleisskynet7312 Interesting. You could be right. Derrick looked explosive in the vid I saw. Would you rank Walter over Derrick?
@googleisskynet731221 сағат бұрын
@ Yes. Nolen's speed looks effortless. He's got Hargrave floor and Aaron Donald ceiling, but he'll probably be similar to Ed Oliver initially. There is also TJ Sanders, who is a similar kind of guy to Nolen, but will probably be available later. I think they need a guy who is a little different than Nolen, but having him on your team could never hurt. I wouldn't be mad at that pick, but I think taking OL is smart early in this draft, because it's a much deeper DL draft. They need a run-stuffer more than anything else. Omarr Norman-Lott, J.J. Pegues, Simeon Barrow Jr., Ty Robinson, Ty Hamilton. I had my eye on DeMonte Capeheart too, but he's going back to Clemson for another year.

The Chris Jones convo about the Super Bowl losses is 100% correct. And I’d swing every year for a Chris Jones type. If Harmon is that level, we need to do whatever we have to do to grab him.

I don't see the Jones comparison at all. Jones was way leaner and more explosive coming out of college. Harmon got leaner at Oregon, but when you watch his tape at Michigan State, he looked like he was carrying bad weight. Harmon doesn't have an explosive first step either...nothing like Jones. You don't even need to look at his general film to see this, you can see it even in his highlights. He's slow off the snap. The guy was a monster in college, but I'm not sure about his potential against stronger and faster offensive lineman. If he can't get off the snap and get low before they get hands on him, he'll lose all that natural leverage potential.
