not drafting Mahomes, not signing Brady, overuse of CMC, paying players after they hold out during pre season, stopping the run game during both Super Bowls. Trading picks for Trey lance only to not develop or give him an actual opportunity. Drafting a mediocre kicker in early rounds. Not reinforcing the O line. Not targeting Kittle enough. Not knowing the OT Super Bowl rules. Hiring wrong personnel for special teams and defensive coordinator. Kyle not being clutch even with a lead on 4th quarters in important games. Playing Allen over Dobbs v Packers in a crucial point of the season. Paying Aiyuk and Deebo. Not having any real plan at the quarterback position and potentially paying Purdy $60 million and hindering a rebuild. There’s just too many mistakes and this organization can’t be trusted to learn from their mistakes.

Dude every single thing you said is right on point. Especially how he forgets his run game gets him his points in the first half. If he ran the ball in all 3 Superbowls he would have 3 rings. Instead he wants to pass it to try to grab as many points as he can as fast as he can. I think he wants to get most points in a SB so he can always point to that and say look at what my offense did. That was me.

The biggest thing THIS YEAR was letting players drag out the contract negotiations right up to the start of the season. They should have told Aiyuk that if he held out past start of training camp he had two options: play under the current deal or sit out the year. This is especially the case as they supposedly had agreed a deal with him at around $25-26 million per year, which he then welshed on after the market for receivers jumped to around $30 million. Just let him sit out a year and use the money elsewhere. Aiyuk was good, but he was never great. I'm a little more on the fence about the left tackle issue, but for an aging player I'd also not have done what they did. Aside for his performance issues this year, he was just not worth the guaranteed money they signed up for. This will hurt in the long run, and didn't help much this year either. Agree completely on the Trey Lance issue. There is no way that an unproved player, especially one with such a thin resume, was worth three top picks when other QBs in the same draft were available. That just screamed bad deal at the time. In fact, NONE of the top five QBs in that draft have really panned out. Number 1 was Lawrence, who has been decent, but far from great. Fields, Jones, etc., have been busts to this point, along with Lance. If Lance became a star elsewhere, so be it. The Niners would have been far better with Jimmy G, a flawed but decent QB, and the three top draft picks. (Assuming, of course they could use those three better than they used the others.) Not sure why they are so bad at drafting. Drafts are often a crap shoot, but you'd just think you could do better. If they hadn't drafted Purdy with the last pick the record would be much, much worse. Also agree on the Buckner trade.

I appreciate the deep dive, but let’s be honest. 1. If there’s a holding penalty on the third and 15 against the Chiefs, the first time we probably hold on to win that game. 2. If Nick Bosa just tries to tackle Patrick Mahomes. (again it was for and two, and he didn’t even look at Patrick Mahomes.) in the Super Bowl, but not knowing the rules and taking the ball first is irrelevant. 3. Yes, there have been some bad mistake. Mistakes in the draft at the 49ers have made. I would say that every team makes mistakes in the draft. But if those two things come out a different way, we’re not talking about a downfall. We’re talking about a retooling because we missed the playoffs this year and I hate what if but let’s look at it logically. The 49ers have built a tremendous roster. This was the first year with the veterans that they signed didn’t really make an impact. That was a huge issue. Injuries was another issue . Losing your defensive coordinator again was another issue. Having your kicker, miss all of those kicks is a different issue . The 49ers are a well run organization at this point going forward I can’t say, but the Shanahan and John Lynch regime has been well run . Have they made mistakes absolutely but they could’ve been overcome with on field play that was more than realistic to expect.

All the Bay Area media are nuts on the Buckner trade. I don't get it. Buckner was a good player, but the last year he was with the 49ers, Armstead out played him both as a run stopper and a consistent pass rush push up the middle. Buckner was always a liability against the run. As the game would go on he'd start playing high and get blown off the ball and out of his gap again and again. Krueg is talking that the choice was just Buckner for the 1st round pick. But really it allowed them the cap space to keep Armstead, Ward and get a 1st round pick. Ward was more than a solid player for them and also versatile as he could play the slot and safety. They missed on the first round pick. But I would have rather had Armstead and Ward than Buckner. The 49er management made a good, reasoned decision here as they certainly new what good players Armstead and Ward were.

Buckner was traded because Armstead might have gotten a 4th or 5th in return. I never liked the Armstead pick. He put up numbers when there were studs around him, but completely disappeared without help. In the last 30 years, teams that have traded up into the top 5 to draft a QB have about an 80% failure rate. Somehow KS & JL thought that they were too smart. I've been harping on OL since 2017, and it's been an afterthought, except for the botched McGlinchey pick, and he was a bust. Jared Goff and Sam Darnold now look like Brady and Manning because they are on teams with stellar offensive lines. They have average RB's and except for Jefferson in MIN, average WR's. Their teams are both top 5 in passing yards and top 10 in points. Their defenses rank 18 MIN and 22 DET. Even Alex Smith was having a career year behind the 49ers great OL under Harbaugh. If it was my call, I'd tell KS & JL that they have one year to right the ship and at least win the division, or fire them both. They pick no. 11 so no BS excuses about all of the good OL players being gone!

Yep, we suck at top position drafting
@Deebosamuel1913 сағат бұрын
The biggest mistake was ignoring OL for so many damn years, starting with Wirfs. Banks was a fine pick, to get a 3 year starter out of a second rounder who's about to get us 3rd rounder comp pick. After that, it was extending CMC for no reason, giving Yuk 30 mill when he was nowhere near a 30 mill guy, and bringing every FA back when we needed to let some of these guys walk, like Yuk and CMC to preserve some cap space. And of course, how much we've invested in picks/cap/trades for the RB room, Lynch must be high after Mckinnon, Juice, Williams, Sermon, Price, CMC trade, CMC extension, combined with a K/P in the 3/4 respectively. It's just crazy how little we've gotten out of our expenditure of assets in the RB room and draft.

Hmmm...Seems like Lynch & Shanahan aren't very good at the NFL draft picking game, huh?

Is a miracle the way they drafted that this team went to a SB last year, horrible drafting

Larry significantly downplayed the missed opportunities with the missed or traded picks. Micah was taken with one of the 1st round picks we traded for Lance. Guys like Mahomes, Lamb, Jefferson, Sewell, and LaPorta were taken just a few picks after we picked guys that were not highly aought after. Many of these guys would have filled positions of need for us at the time.

1. Buckner 2. Lance 3. Not improving the O line 4. Shanahan thinking he's smarter than he is, can't coach from behind, and chokes leads away.

All these mistakes make me irate. Since year 1 the calculus in the building is slightly off and needs to be adjusted. That could have been said in 2017 absent the past eight years of further evidence. They should be able to look at these failures and the thought process behind them and adjust their processes accordingly. The 2025 draft is a big draft for this regime. If they fail again the clock is ticking on them. I'm rooting for them to get their shit together.

It's really the Trey Lance decision and trading all the first round picks. All the rest of the draft misses can be said about any team. But this year's team is suffering from having no first round picks on the roster for three years. Hard to still harp on the Buckner decision five years ago. Armstead isn't even on the team now because of age.

Brock throw 2 picks and the kicker missed 3 kicks but we only lost by 6 and still could have beaten Detroit with 2 picks if the kicker makes the kicks.. this has been the theme all year long the kicker cost us at least 3 games this year and Detroit defense is just mediocre at best

NFL, worst trade was the Warriors trading Robert Parrish and the #3 pick for the #1 pick. The #3 pick was Kevan McHale and he and Parrish became HOFers along with Larry Bird one the best front courts ever. Took the Warriors 40 years of bad trades and drafts to win another Championship. Niners on 30 years since last Super Bowl win.

They traded away Buckner when they should have instead traded Armstead. Then trading away three number one picks for Lance is the main team killer here. The loss of those three picks are the reason the depth is so poor. Three first round picks can be parlayed into a lot of picks, keeping the team's depth where it needed to be. Oh, their draft picks have also been subpar. Too many busts.

I agree about Buckner and the Trey Lance thing!!! But the draft is a crapshoot!!!! You’re pretty much guessing and hoping!!! There’s no depth on this team!!! Wish all those draft picks would’ve worked out

Problems: drafting, drafting and drafting 1. Trey Lance 2. Solomon Thomas/Reuben Foster instead of Mahones and TJ Watt 3. Trading for Kinlaw 4. All drafts from 2017-2023 for the first 4 rounds 5. Drafting Punter and Kicker so high, absolutely insane Just shows how bad Kyle is and his ego. Their success later comes from actual scouts when Kyle doesn't know the players that deep

Larry, the problem is you and others are calling out the Niners consistently piss poor draft performance NOW. WE the fans (and Grant Cohn) were calling this out each year. When each draft was happening y’all were making Lynch and Shanahan sound like geniuses, and then being apologists when another pick didn’t work out. The fact that there wasn’t more of an uproar from the pundits when they took Moody with a 3rd shows the love affair pundits have with the Niners Front Office.

Not picking up Deshaun or patrick in 2017 draft is the biggest mistake a football team has made since 05 when Alex smitty went # instead of Aaron Rogers...mistake #2 keep Jimmy the starter when Tom came to Frisco first...kyle and john rejected the G.O.A.T...mistake#3 was not getting Matt Stafford and allowing the rams to get him and the won a 🏆 #4 was reaching on trey...he never played division 1 ball so he had no business going so high in the draft...mistake #5 giving up the run game in the lost superbowls.. mistake#6 paying players too early #7 paying Brock 50mill or more...BIG MISTAKE!!

Trading Buckner was the all time dumbest move this administration made. He and Bosa on the same line was unstoppable. Trey Lance is the obvious runner up. I don’t understand who could have thought these were intelligent moves. I could tell they were bad as soon as they made them.

This is why I say the Niners need to trade down their high draft pick and get a bunch picks. They’ll still screw up most of them but the more pics they have the more likely they’ll get someone good.

1. The 49ers earned a trip to the Super Bowl last year. The Buckner decision was indeed horrible. But it's not the reason why the team fell apart in the 2024 season 2. Please, please, PLEASE tell Dieter to stop STEPPING on you! That said, SHUT UP Krueg and allow Dieter to get in a word or two. In other words, make room for him. 3. Injuries KILLED the 49ers this season. However, part of this was due to the AGE of some of the injured players. The NFL is a young man's game. I expect some changes. 4. Let's see how Detroit does with a first place schedule next season. Are they really THAT good? Purdy ripped that defense to SHREDS. 5. Any RB that rips right through the front seven, which happened far too much against the 49er D, is going to make any safety look foolish. Brown's fine.
