As a current 911 operator, this... isn't too unrealistic. You get hundreds of calls, and some of them aren't even legitimate. Some of them are terrifying, rapes, murders, frantic children. Some are even scarier, people with domestic abuse cases who can't talk on the line, and one slip up on either of your parts can cost them their lives. I'm not sure who made this game, but whoever it was, they either had good connections with operators, or they are one themselves. Jay, I'd love for you to play more of this game. I've never seen anything like it.

Also, Jay... You should ask where the incident was as soon as you can. You will be able to send appropriate help much faster then. Knowing who has been injured is also critical but if you don't know where it was, the victims are as good as dead. When someone doesn't elaborate on what is happening (ex "It's burning!" or "He's hurting her!" something like that) you need to send services. People in shock sometimes aren't able to elaborate, especially if they or someone they love is a victim. You need to trust them even though some calls are fake. In the case of seemingly fake calls but they still stay on the line, you should talk it through. In the calls where there is no speech, you should ask them to do minute, quiet things, like breathe into the microphone, press a digit on the phone, press the microphone to something like a shirt so it will make a muffling noise. (pressing a digit on the phone is recommended, but yeah.) Fuck, sorry I got carried away with this with actual advice. Sorry. You're THAT DUDE, though.

Twilight Sprinkle It is very stressful! (Didn't think anyone would recognize the HS, haha.) To answer your question, it can be... A bit traumatizing. The people who have been here the longest are the ones who aren't easily scared/traumatized. If you can't handle stuff like hearing someone die live or hearing a mom crying that her kid drowned, stuff like that, then the job isn't for you. I've had to listen to a man dying of a heart attack more than once, it's not too fun. Sometimes people quit after a few days because they got a bad call and they couldn't handle it. If you're still considering the job, good luck, mate. You'll have nightmares.

Katie Burris-Cook Unless the person directly asks to thank the operator, I don't know how they turn out at all. It's mostly a thankless job but when someone thanks you directly it's worth all of the trouble. I didn't think anyone would take interest in this, gosh!

There was a commercial advertising that as a thing years ago and some guy on the internet telling stories that may or may not be true on reddit. I agree. He kept making decisions without thinking about the actual scenario at place and just based it on how he was feeling (i.e., see a doctor on the guy who's stomach was hurting, and hanging up the second time on the silent call even though it could have been a different scenario). It was really difficult to watch this first one, but hopefully, it'll get better.
