so i searched up the ending and it says Lorraine was heavily medicated because of her depression and anxiety; unable to care for the son she was ill-equipped to nurture, her neglect led to Callum's disappearance and eventual death. In her mind, she was the one who killed Callum.

Honestly I think the whole game was Loraine going through her own mind and how there’s so much darkness in her. I also think that the monster looking guy with the hook hand was actually like an inner demon, it’s kind of like the part of her that held hatred towards her son and didn’t want to be a mother. I think that her looking for him symbolized that she was trying hard to be a mother to him, and his death at the end was her giving in to her hatred and fear.

It's a bit more straightforward and "simple" than that, since The Park is a spin-off from a series called the Secret World (one of those supernatural occult MMORPGs from the 2010s) and the bogeyman is _definitely not in lorraine's head_ - most of the stuff she saw was real, including the bogeyman being what's left of Nathanial Winters after the park closed - the park literally saps emotions out of its visitors and the bogeyman was a bit desperate in luring both Callum and Lorraine to the park for this reason. Only reason she escaped and remembers Callum, blaming herself for his death, is because she's "immune" to the effects of what happens when a kid gets spirited away by the Bogeyman as they're forgotten entirely by the adults who knew them including parents and teachers, which ends up being a double edged sword for her after the events of The Park when you play her quest in The Secret World MMO TL;DR all of it was real and it only gets worse for her after the credits roll

@@lazyperfectionist3978 ^ This, I'm happy to see more people mentioning The Secret World since there's more lore in the universe than it being an inside her head thing. Atlantic Park was one of my favourite areas in the game.

same, ik that it was more straightforward, but i thought of it like callum died beforehand and she was trying to relive what it was like without him. going back to his favorite place and it haunting her.

definitely makes sense that the whole thing was her attempt to recall the story in her unstable mind to the interrogator rather than what was happening in real time, this is especially because the guy at the beginning who let her in was also the interrogator and was saying the same string of words, which could have symbolized the transition between reality and her recollection of memory if that makes sense

15:20-17:21 I agree with Jay. I think this is actually a very good mindset to have, part of being a person (not just a kid) is having you're own opinions and thoughts, growing older will only form more. I'm already best friends with my dad, but both my parents still have the "i'm the parent you're the child" mindset, which really makes it a struggle to speak my mind.

I hope you'll be able to get the happiness and love you deserve someday, but parents like that rarely xhange, so you and I are both in the same boat. As one who has experienced severe post partum depression, this game hits way too close to my heart. I know exactly what Lorraine was going through, she felt so hopeless and desperate. She just gave up. The motherly instincts weren't there whatsoever, and yes, that happens....OFTEN. Post partum depression isn't at all as studied as most other depression 'types'. Being a parent takes an ENORMOUS mindset to raise a child the right way without going into insanity. I ENVY those who are amazing parents. Jay included. And it's not just women who develop PPD, the father will absolutely develop it too. This game is definately where it's at 👌

It's neither a “friend" or a “parent" that you need, it's a “friendly parent" that you need cuz I sure need one. By “treating your kid as a friend" Jay didn't mean doing it while forgetting to act as a parent. It's more like, do your part as a parent but don't treat your child like shit which would make them feel alone and won't tell you about their problems, but instead be as gentle as a friend. If you read the other comments you'll see a lot of people talking about being abused by their parents. So it's about treating your kids nice like a friend, instead of not acting like a parent at all
@Jubbano

And I agree with Jay on the parent relationship. It’s because the more you grow up, you start to slowly understand what hardships and difficulties you all have gone through and can relate with one another. But also throughout the process, your guys’ relationship and connection have gotten stronger, making it very comforting to just have each other around and watch time pass by. Although I’m only 18, I can understand. Because the bond is growing the same with my mom. But also my dads family. The older I got, the more I was looked upon as mature and responsible enough to do things alone.

Awe Jay, you are such a good dad! I'm 19, a fresh ass adult, and I definitely know what you mean when you say the older we get, the more friendly we become with our parents. My dad raised me, he was the best dad he could be for me and now he is my best friend. It's like he knows I'm going to be okay and he knows he did a good job! Obviously your parents will always have that parental instinct no matter how old you get, but they know they don't need to "parent" you the same way. My mom definitely had the mindset of "I'm right you're wrong, you don't know anything" and it has greatly negatively impacted our relationship to this day. Once again amazing content, keep it up!!

23:58 when jay first picked up the paper i knew damn well that there was gonna be a jumpscare in the window as soon as he put it down 😭 also to what jay was talking about earlier on i definitely agree and i wish that more people can have relationships with their parents that are more friendly and aren't all about listening to them. i'm sadly not that fortunate and i hope to never see or hear from my parents again once im an adult so i dont want this type of relationship, but the world would for sure be a better place if people improved their parenting.

i agree with what Jay said about when you get older you have more of a friendships bond with your parents as you get older. when your older it gets easier to confide in them rather than when you are younger it's more learning how to be a proper person by watching your parents.

15:49 okay but what Jay said is SOO right, my mom has that "you're a child and I'm the parent" type mentality with my sis and I and it's so difficult because she will never listen to our troubles or opinions, she always think she is right. She has even said that same phrase. It's really sad because we don't have a good relationship with her. Then parents wonder why their child hates them and why they act different

About what Jay said about parenthood, I 100% agree on that, as I got older, my mom encouraged me to be more open, be more outspoken on what needs to be said and she never belittled me for my opinion, I'm quite grateful for that because now, as a 17 year old I am really open with her, as a friend and as a parent and I think that's very important

I think that relationships between parents and children really can change. When I was little my parents were strict towards me and my sister, but as we got older they got more laid back. Now that I'm an adult I go out drinking with my parents like college friends.

What up from the Midwest! Thought I'd pop on here since you asked about relationships with parents as you age. As one of your much older followers (my mom is too by the way), I thought I'd share my relationship. Growing up, I was always extremely close to my father. As a teenager, mother was always working so I really didn't have much of a relationship with her. I was still close to my dad. I was 19 when he died and my world crumbled. However, I didn't have time to mourn. My mother had just lost the love of her life and she was only 43. That's when I realized I needed to repair my relationship with her. I'm glad I did. Today, we have a very close friendship. She is my best friend. It is amazing how the parent/child relationship changes as you age. Thankfully due to our relationship, my mother's chose me as her caretaker as she battles with Parkinson's.

Dang... this game is kinda sad bc she's so hard on herself and Callum. The things she says about him should never be said to a child to hear 🥺. What sucks the most is calling it "being a slave" to a child. For one, it didn't ask to be brought into this world and two, everyone was once a child and to think if all parents had that same mindset.... the humanity would just be even more terrible.... Me being a mother and having heard the things she was saying about Callum actually hurt me a lot because I went through that sometimes with my own parents. I'm trying to be better with my own child and try to see things from their perspective because they need us. It is never a childs fault to be brought into this world.
