Gratuity is the amount of money you get in addition to salary, pension and provident fund (PF) after working for many years continuously in a single company. However, a small part of it is deducted from your salary, but the company pays a large part of your gratuity from your side. In a way, gratuity is a long term benefit plan made by the company like provident fund (PF). For gratuity, an employee is required to work for a fixed time.
The gratuity system was started in 1972. The objective behind this system is to maintain the loyalty and sustainability of employees and to reward them for their long working period for a company. Employees of private and public companies who do not fall under the pension rules of the Central Civil Services, get a substantial amount in the form of gratuity on retirement. So, this system was started by keeping in mind the benefits of both the company and the employees.

आप गलत बता रहें हैं. ग्रेच्युटी कभी कर्मचारी के सैलरी से नहीं कटता है बल्कि ग्रेच्युटी वेतन का वह हिस्सा होता है, जो कर्मचारियों की सेवाओं के बदले एक निश्चित अवधि के बाद दिया जाता है. आय कर अधिनियम की धारा 10 (10) के मुताबिक, किसी भी निगम या Company में Minimum पांच वर्ष की सेवा अवधि पूरी करने वाला हर Employee ग्रेच्युटी का हकदार होता है. Gratuity Act, 1972 के अनुसार, कर्मचारी को उसकी सेवा के प्रत्येक वर्ष में 15 दिनों का वेतन Gratuity के तौर पर दिया जाता है.

Aur ek baat ye bhi aapne bola ke agar aap kisi company me yadi 4 saal 11 mahina kaam kar ke retire ho gaye hain toh aap ko gratuity nahi milega, lekin act kahta yadi koi 4 saal 6 mahina bhi yadi kaar kia aur retire ho gaya hai toh wo 5 saal mana jayega aur use bhi gratuity milega..... There is no deduction from salary of employee towards gratuity. It has to be paid fully by the employer, wherever applicable. Also dearness allowances is also considered while computing the salary. In the case you are mentioning basic salary of 50000 it is basic + DA.

X service/2 ,but there is dire need to check by the respective Govt. as in some cases like me concerned employyes treated as they wish not only in gratuity, but fixing the basic pay and in commutation also making financial loss to me.Whether such employees shall be asked to pay out of their pockets so that they may be learn that how they will feel if their wages are detucted.nirmalpal.
