First Indira asked him to attack Golden Temple as he was Commander-In-Chief of western India, he refused to do it and called it a blunder. He was second to Chief of Army and was about to become next Chief of Army. He told Indira that he can evacuate Golden Temple of militants without attack, as it is a small building but Indira screwed his career and brought other General (Lt. General K Sunderji) to attack.
