I think it's more the swim speed that hides it. If you had been able to get up close to something like those reapers they would've been shown as much larger than they often seem too. Going to be interesting seeing the Sunbeam, might want to build a radio so you can see the platform fire with no water.

One thing I have been wondering (good subject for your speculation series): Where is the Degasi or what is left of it. We know from the cinematic trailer and the fact there were survivors, that it crash landed mostly in one piece. And it must have crashed on the same crater as the Aurora as the survivors established bases in the play area as well. logically, we should be able to find some remains of the ship. My best idea was that they salvaged the remains of the ship for raw materials to build their bases. I can easily imagine there are some other theories out there...
