ilian martell you have to remember two things. 1 this is a tv show/book and 2 it's set in more medieval times, not modern day with our modern morals. With that targearyn's are in fact known for polygamy, this has been established. Aegon the conquerer and his two sisters are a classic example, heck even his dragon mated with his sister's dragons. Oh like if there was a third remember that this show has done more screwed up things than polygamy or falling for married man.

I've read somewhere that GRRM said that Howland Reed holds the key information to the reveal. If it's not shown in the show then it will certainly be in the books. But just think, they showed Howland in last season. Patience is a virtue (so I keep telling myself). We'll all have our hairs parted by the blow of the reveal at some point down the track ;)

Robert wasn't bothered whether Lyanna was crowned the queen or beauty or not. The knight he was playing the drinking game with was a former squire of Prince Rhaegar and both of them had told the king that they would find that mystery knight and bring his head. I would also like to say that Eddard probably knew that it was his sister who was the mystery knight because he was on the isle of the faces on the night before. For knowing all the other stories, search " game of thrones folk and lore". This story was given in the 5th part. The characters from the show narrate the story.

In the book 1 - the game of thrones, Daenerys Targeryn is asked by the maegi (with lady) to sacrifice life for the life of Khal Drogo. Dany gets ready in a flash to give her life and thinks 'Her brother Rhaegar had died for the woman he loved'. This clearly proves that Dany knows that Rhaegar & Lianna were in love. Here is the text from the book - “It is not a matter of gold or horses. This is bloodmagic, lady. Only death may pay for life.”“Death?” Dany wrapped her arms around herself protectively, rocked back and forth on her heels. “My death?” She told herself she would die for him, if she must. I can only see 2 options for the mystery knight. One is what most people think and is Lyanna. The other option would be Bran interacting in a 3-eyed raven dream. Bran has always dreamt of being a knight ---and that would be a great chance to be one.Bran has a very close connection with the White Trees/Laughing Trees.Bran would have seen the bulling of the squires.Bran could be the one speaking in that deep voice.Bran could have easily vanished.Of course that way Lyanna could not have met Rheagar in the woods and develop a Relationship unless she also went looking for that knight.Did Rheagar find the shield that was left there by Bran or did he take it from Lyanna to show he tried to find the Knight but didn't (found her and did develop that relationship)?hummmmm...

Another thing about the tournament that bothers me.... is it possible that the Wolf who seduced Ashara Dayne and fathered her child Wasn't actually Ned? I feel like it's hinted at that his brother (that everyone loves and idolizes especially in death) was actually the one. He was the only one who had the courage to talk to her for his brother theoretically, but what if he actually went back to her and chatted her up? It seems that he was the more confident and beautiful one who was supposed to "have everything" according to Ned. What if his love for Brandon actually blinded him to his faults as well? What if Brandon did other things that we're going to learn about later too?

I have always thought the tourny at harrenhal held a lot of clues. if you read the books as well as watch the show you can figure out that Lyanna was not kidnapped but her and Rhaegar were in love. Ned even mentions to Robert "you never really knew my sister..." and Lyanna knew the type of man Robert was...a drunk and womanizer so she never would have loved him nor do i think she really would have married him. Lyanna is one of my favorite characters even if she was only mentioned via flashbacks or as being dead. I love the idea of her being the Knight of the Laughing Tree and i can see Rhaegar finding her and then they make love and make plans to run away with each other.

This theory is the one I'm backing. The Mystery Knight was Lyanna and the tourney at Harrenhal is where Lyanna & Rhaegar fell in love. I think it was another one of your videos where you put forward the theory Littlefinger was witness to Lyanna running away with Rhaegar. That theory works for me too. We need Bran's flashbacks or Howland Reed to explain the Tourney and then see the young lovers running away together. Thanks Harpy for your hard work. Yours are my favourite vids by far.

I've said this so many times. Although I don't think a flashback within an episode or episodes would be very satisfying: I'd like to see an entire special episode devoted to the TaH, if not a stand-alone movie. I would also love if GRRM wrote the full story of the tourney and the events before and after (including the "kidnapping" of Lyana), but at this rate I don't see that happening. There is so much that happened around that tourney, including the setup of the tourney itself - it seems probable that Rhaegar got his ally to host the tourney and may have even provided funds and certainly the guest list. The fact that it was held at Harrenhal, that infamous place full of lore and secrets, is also interesting. I hope that HBO will devote the resources to make this flashback, even if it comes as a stand-alone event after the show wraps.

Eric P, I'm suspicious of this, it seems too easy, and if that is how Benjen was saved why didn't he meet up with Bran Meera Hodor and Jojen on their way to the COTF and the Three Eyed Raven and help them get there as the Raven and the Children knew Bran was coming? Just too many questions and Bran loving his uncle accepts his explanation without questioning it a bit. There are lots of videos about why the COTF could be evil or at least nefarious and up to their own plotting and the show and the books still haven't fully explained them to us. I'd love for them to be good, to just be trying to protect the balance of ice and fire and protect whatever they call "Mother Nature" in Planetos, but like I said there are still so many unanswered questions about the Children of the Forest. I hope the show has time to go more in depth about them.

Dear "Last Harpy", I know this might not be the place to ask you for yet another video, but I've got kind of a "revelation" while (re-re) watching all the existing seasons of GOT: when, in season 2, Daenerys has those visions in the house of the undying (episode 10), there's a close up scene where she stands near the iron throne, covered in snow. The very last shot (before she moves away to "meet" Drogo and her son) clearly shows the pommel of ONE very distinct sword. I first though that it was "Long claw", then "Oath keeper", but it is not either, even though it clearly looks like a lion"s head. I think it is a rather interesting detail, knowing that in GOT, such a detail is never "inserted" without a purpose. Should we conclude that SNOW (Jon... just like the "all I can see is SNOW, from Melissandre's vision reported to Stannis) will be "on" the Iron throne, after the realm had been nearly anihilated by the Great war, and that the LION sword, melted into the throne, is a symbol of the Lannisters' defeat? And Daenerys walking to meet Kahl Drogo and her son, after seeing the Wall, would maybe mean that she will go North, battle there, and ultimately die, so she would be reunited with her late husband & baby boy? That's just a random interpretation, but I thought you might want explore that detail (snow on throne + lion sword melted and added to the other trophies) in depth, "just in case" it would have been overlooked by pretty much everybody! The way I see it is that Lyanna wasn't kidnapped. Rhaegar picked her up by her free will or sent a servant to do it and Benjen saw this that night and he was on his way to tell his brothers but Lyanna spoke to him and Benjen promised to keep her secret. After the war when Ned came back with a son he knew it was Lyanna's son and he blamed himself for the death of his father, brother and sister because he hadn't told them the truth before the war broke out. That's why he shortly after left for the wall and joined the Nights Watch and he cared so much for Jon because he was a lovechild of his late sister. He always knew the truth about him and I think that he also told Lord Commander Mormont about Jon too. That is why Mormont saw so much potential in Jon. He was a formidable weapon against the imminent threat of the White Walkers. I base the theory that Benjen told Mormont about Jon from the first season when Mormont speaks to Tyrion at the wall and he said that he knew everyone's story for being at there. I guess that that counts for Benjen's story too.

Hey LH - I'm starting to reread the books. Currently on book 1 in the first Daenerys chapter, and in her recounting what she never knew of Westeros, she mentions that the descriptions are all words to her. In the next paragraph is the comment about her brother Rhaegar battling the Usurper ... and dying for the woman he loved. So is it possible that in Targaryen lore that Lyanna Stark was acknowledged as Rhaegar's great love? It does not seem like he'd be in a battle with Robert over Elia Martell. That brings up a few questions on how things can go when Dany/Jon meet, as they presumably will in S7. For example, would thinking her brother fought a war partially because of Lyanna Stark make her more or less a friend to the Starks of Winterfell. More, because of the connection to her brother, or less, because of the placement of the Starks on Robert's side against her father. Also, is it possible that the family lore could allude to the parentage of Jon Snow? Would Dany have any sort of whispers from her side about her nephew? Just some thoughts.

I think the reason they depicted Lyanna as ably riding in on horseback in the Winterfell flashback and literally running circles around Ned and Benjen was so that it wouldn't seem implausible when we eventually see the Tournament at Harrenhal flashback for her to be able to outjoust three southern knights. That was a very specific directorial decision, and they wouldn't go to the trouble of a) putting a horse in the flashback, which adds possibly a hundred thousand dollars to the shot, b) putting Lyanna's actress and the stunt rider on the horse, which requires Lyanna's actress to be trained in horse riding, either narrowing the available pool of actresses or necessitating further expensive training on the part of the actress (which they wouldn't waste simply for a single flashback shot) and requiring the payment of the stunt rider for less than three seconds of edited footage. If they wanted to show that Lyanna was a spirited young woman like Arya they could have had her embarrass Benjen with superior swordplay, further playing up the Arya-Lyanna parallel (as Arya's establishing moment was her embarrassing Bran at archery), which would have made for a much cheaper and more characterful scene. Instead they made the decision to put Lyanna on a horse and draw attention to the fact that she's an excellent rider (the Stark boys even draw attention to it so there's no room for doubt with the line: "Stop showing off!") Tl;dr: horses are expensive, there were better decisions to be made if the point was merely to show Lyanna's Arya-like spirit, the decision to put Lyanna on a horse in her establishing shot was therefore not made on a whim, it was to serve a purpose. Since that purpose hasn't been seen yet, it will likely come up in a future flashback, almost certainly the Tournament at Harrenhal. I'm 90% sure that Lyanna will be the Knight of the Laughing Tree and that we, via Bran, will learn this in the coming season, as he researches further into how Lyanna and Rhaegar came to be lovers and parent Jon.

Having done a little more research, it seems the young Lyanna actress was selected in particular for her riding skills. Apparently it was part of the casting call-- footage of the auditioning actresses on horseback had to be submitted. Her mother said in a Daily Mirror article: “We had to send them footage of her riding both her own horse and mine." Which might indicate that she will be required to do more taxing riding sequences in coming episodes.

I fail to pick up on little things in the book. I could never get a sense of the time line for the whole Rhaegar and Lyanna thing. Were they well acquainted before the tournament? How much time passed between the tournament and when Lyanna left with/was taken by Rhaegar? Was her departure from Winterfell or from the tournament? How long was she with Rhaegar before she died? I'm figuring there's a 9 month time span in there somewhere, hence Jon Snow's birth, but is that it?

I'm still rereading the books too, so my info might be dry. As far as I remember they first met at the tourney at Harenhall. And if you believe the theory, they most likely met when Rhaegar found out the Lyanna was the KOTLT. So after that, I think it had been at least a year since the Tourney at Harenhall before Rhaegar suddenly "kidnapped" her in the riverlands. Cause Lyanna was at Riverrunn to meet Catelyn when she was still betrothed to Brandon. Specifically in the book TWOIAF it says, *"With the coming of the new year, the crown prince had taken to the road with half a dozen of his closest friends and confidants, on a journey that would ultimately lead him back to the Riverlands, not ten leagues from Harrenhal … where Rhaegar would once again come face-to-face with Lyanna Stark of Winterfell, and with her light a fire that would consume his house and kin and all those he loved-and half the realm besides."* Notice how it said *not ten leagues from Harrenhal* And if you believe the theory that R+L were in love, *not ten leagues from Harrenhal* is actually at the Isle of Faces where people believed they got married in front of a weirwood tree. Which would make it legit. Then I think Roberts Rebellion lasted for about 9 months cause Ned found Lyanna right after she had given birth. So that means R+L were together for at least 9 months to almost a year. Idk man, I got all analytical on you. Hopefully they show the story next season so we can all get closure. XD

I think the scene from the Tower of Joy left out a very important detail. Hearing you speak of Howland Reed's loyalty to the Starks makes me believe it even more! I believe there is a third Targaryen...Meera Reed! Her father, Howland Reed, was also at the Tower of Joy and he was the one who stabbed Sir Arthur Dane so that Ned could kill him. Has anyone noticed the resemblance between Jon Snow and Meera? Jojen Reed and Howland Reed both have reddish hair, but Meera has thick black locks and dark eyes...just like Lyanna Stark and Jon Snow! Jon Snow and Meera are also very good with swords and weapons. I believe that Lyanna Stark had twins and both Ned Stark and Howland Reed took one baby to raise and protect them from Robert Baratheon Splitting them up would increase the chances of one or both of the babies surviving. That makes how many Targaryens? THREE! How many dragons are there? THREE? Side Note, that could also be how Bran is able to fly, as the Three Eyed Raven said he would...And how the white walkers could be destroyed...with DRAGON FIRE! Just saying!

+ Last Harpy : Like most GOT fans, I sincerely hope they do a Tourney flashback in season 7. I've proposed (can't remember if it's on your site) the story goes further than that. I believe the Knight in question was Lyanna Stark, and agree that Rhaegar discovered who she was, was instantly enamored with her and let her go, lying to his father. What I would add is that Ned knew about their love and helped them escape because he knew his sister didn't want to marry Robert, and that she loved Rhaegar, and Ned couldn't refuse his sister anything. I think Ned feels guilty - somehow responsible - that he facilitated events that would lead to the Tower of Joy. In fact, how did Ned know to find his sister at the TOJ? and why, after finding her, did he feel the need to destroy the tower completely - to erase any evidence of their love and life together. Ned feels guilty for allowing his sister to flee with Rhaegar - never imagining the hell it would unleash (the death of his father and brother) and the eventual death of his sister. No wonder, he did not hesitated to protect Jon Snow and never spoke of his sister. What do you think?

I have not seen one mention of one scene that I think tells on Jon Snows lineage. When the Red woman brings him back and puts his hair clippings into the flames there was no puff of smoke. A Dragon like dany I would say.

Good idea, I have a feeling that Bran will work backwards from the Tower of Joy and see events in reverse. He should also be able to communicate with Sansa in the Godswood. I think that all true born Starks have this ability no matter how deep and hidden. There is a reason that young Ned heard Bran call out in the flashback, because he has those abilities too. Bran might reach out to Sansa, who goes to the Werewood tree everyday in the show and Bran will project himself so she will see or just hear him on the wind like Osha described in the books. He will tell her about Jon and Littlefinger and all the info he's learnt. She goes there everyday so she wouldn't raise suspicions. She will then use that info to do battle with Littlefinger (maybe even give him the middle finger!) all sneakily and back stabby like he taught her. I also have a feeling Littlefinger will kill her before the end of the story and Arya will take her face and get revenge on Littlefinger and Cersei. (Also think that Bran will end up having a conversation with Ned before his death in the dungeons of Kings Landing and he will tell him that his death sets off a chain reaction of events that leads to Jon becoming King, and him becoming the three eyed crow and saving Westeros from the White Walkers. Knowing this Ned will go to the block ready to die for the greater good, would add a new dimension to the story and his death.)

The Knight of the Laughing Tree was Jaime Lannister, he had recently been knighted and was keen to show off his skills but Aeris ordered him to stay in Kings Landing. This was to slight Jaime and Tyron, whom Aeris had seriously fallen out with. Jaime turned up to the Tourney regardless, but did so in disguise.

Hi there, love your channel. I've been pondering on who will get the Iron Throne and reading up on GRRM's description of it, the forging of Valyrian Steel and Bran the Builder's relation to Brandon Stark, as well as the properties of dragonglass/obsidian. I believe that these things are all related. I believe that no one will get the Iron Throne as this would go against Daenery's project to break the wheel. She will, instead, order the Iron Throne -and all of its thousands of swords - to be melted down and the metal be reforged with dragonglass to supply the human armies with weapons to fight the White Walkers. This action is also very symbolic of her project: she will return power to the people and refuse to be the All Powerful Queen. (It could also be Jon that does this, but I believe it will be Daenerys because she is one thing that Jon is not: wise). It has to be a Targaryen, however, who orders the throne to be melted down (with Dragonfire, of course), because that would be the perfect way to close a circle - i.e. break the wheel - that was in fact created by another Targaryen, the first Targaryen king. Also, I think that Brandon, being a timetraveler, somehow influenced the creation of the Iron Throne in the first place. Any thoughts, dear Harpy?

I think the laughing knight was howland reed, I'm pretty sure there is no evidence that howland was not a good warrior, in fact the opposite is true, only he and ned survived the fight at the tower of joy. As for the weirwood shield, that was because howland reed had just come from the isle of faces, where there are lots of weirwoods and he met the children (I think).

Then how did Howland get beat by some squires? And the Crannogmen are not known to be fierce warriors, rather,, they snipe from the bushes. Howland survived the Tower by backstabbing.

the backstabbing thing is only on the show and he still had to survive to that point. besides, being bullied by 3 big squires is very different to jousting. Although now I revisit the story Lynna seems equally as likely to be the laughing knight, so guess we'll have to wait and see.

Crannogmen do not ride horses well because they have no horses, since they live in a swamp. So it's unlikely he would have enough horsemanship skills to beat 3 knights in jousting. Lyanna, however, was noted as an exceptional horse rider.

Howland knew he was not up to the task - that's why he went and prayed to his gods - basically for a miracle that would prevent shaming his people. That "miracle" turned out to be Lyanna with some help from her brothers (or at least one, Benjin).
