4 ай бұрын

I'm making another Grandchild Quilt! If you remember the paper pieced hexagon quilt I made for Agnes who is now 4, then you'll know that I don't mind how long projects like these take me!
This is a 2 inch, 60' diamond paper template and all the fabrics will be Liberty Tana Lawn which is not only beautiful to work with but comes in such delicious patterns and colours. I bought my extra Liberty at last year's Festival of Quilts from a number of different suppliers. The papers are from Lina Patchwork.
Let's see how long this one takes to finish!
Every week I make extra content for my Patrons who support this channel. The latest video on Friday was all about my daughter in law Anna's obsession with Liberty Hexagons. you can catch up with that and all the other content I make for the price of a craft magazine over here
www.patreon.com/thelasthomelyhouse
There is content right back to the start of 2019! Look for the feature 'Collections' to help you find what you'd enjoy most.
KZbin content is always free to view, but if you enjoy The Last Homely House you might enjoy settling down on the Patreon end of The Lime Green Sofa?
Over in my shop you'll find some things that might inspire your next project. Once a month I make a charity donation with Ad Revenue from my KZbin channel. Watching those ads benefits so many charities! So sign up to the newsletter to discover who it will be this month.
www.thelasthomelyhouse.co.uk
I have the next video ready for The Last Homely Garden channel! That will be coming in the next few days! Check out the latest one here

Thank you so much for watching and supporting my little channel - I am overwhelmed by the love and friendliness from you all!

Much love

Hi Kate, I forgot to tell you how I discovered your KZbin videos : since ten years I keep my bees. A couple of weeks ago I was searching for some specific informations and over the word "hexagon" came yor last homely House channel. Isn't it crazy? That's live!! Now I'm going to create a hexagon cushion. In Spring, I'll take it out of the garden, to sit and watch the bees. Thank you for inspire me!

Hello Kate. I'm fairly new to your Channel and haven't yet taken the plunge to make anything altho I've watched so many of your videos now. I especially liked following along Anna's journey making her quilt with you. I'm a Nana myself and want to try my hand at a quilt for my new baby granddaughter. I'll then attempt more for my other grandchildren! Looking forward to learning from you. Hugs from me, Cathy from South Wales ❤

Hello Kate, greetings from Czechia! I'm a bit late to the video - I've been doing nightshifts every other week since September, so as you can imagine, I am quite knackered and do things on my own irregular schedule... But the timing in putting this video off worked out perfectly, because I had a bit of a bad day (night), and this, Cat Rita certainly included, coupled with a cup of Darjeeling, was the perfect mood lifter! Your videos have been doing that service for me at least since the lockdowns (I think I discovered your channel maybe less than a year before them?), so: thank you! I'm more a garment sewist and knitter than quilter, but that does not really stop me from being inspired: I just recently looked at some leftover green sock yarn of mine and thought "I should pair this with pink." 😅 Someone in another comment here wrote you are like an adoptive grandmother to them. I realised it's rather similar to me. I had a very crafty, creative grandma who passed away last year (her specialty was bobbin lace); you're helping to fill that hole a bit. 💛

Hello Kate, i’m from Brazil. My name is Anna and I just turned 18 and I started my first quilt this august at 17. I’m making it for my grandmother as a gift, I’m also adding embroidering. Since it is my very first quilt it has been quite a challenge, but I have been enjoying every step of the way. And it will be all worth it when I see a smile on my grandmother’s face.

I started quilting at age 8 with my Irish grandmother. My first projects were all EPP. We used my dad's shirt cardboards for the templates and newspaper for the papers, and the fabric we used was cut up clothing. My grandmother insisted on 11 stitches to the inch. Those hexagons were hard work and i didn't like it. Now at age 75, after quilting all my life, I'm trying EPP again. And now I'm enjoying the process. I love your soothing, calm, relaxing videos. No glue for me...I hand baste. I'm still sewing and knitting and teach collage quilting at my local shop here in AZ. I also lead a group of quilters who "think outside the box". I hope to start an EPP class soon and will definitely recommend your videos. Thanks Kate.

As a person who celebrates small victories, EPP is perfect. Taking a moment to hand sew two pieces together is a win, two halves of a star joined a milestone and completion of a quilt a triumph. I’m from North Wales, a small village between Wrexham and Mold. I have promised my granddaughter a quilt when she goes to University in September and you have inspired me to make a star quilt. The very first paper pieced quilt I made and designed began in a sewing class over many many months. Life got in the way…… I.e renovating many houses but the box of paper pieces and fabric came with me each time……so, 20 years later it got finished and I was very proud of it. Since then I have made a few more using varying techniques and now this star quilt is for Ruby to have when she leaves home. Just to add I am not a person who makes perfect items but I do value the fact that patchwork must be precise and that’s what I aim for……let’s just hope I speed up a bit otherwise it may mean she will get it when she leaves home to go to her first job. Thanks for your wonderful videos which inspire thousands of people from many parts of the world. X

Each time I open one of your videos, I learn something new and am so inspired by you and your talents and kindness. I adore that you are teaching Anna and that you have involved family members in your projects; each of the channels of media. I watch both the one of your work in the home and out in the garden and so admire your skills and generosity to take the time to make us feel like we are right there with you. You have really become a mentor and a hero to everyone you come into contact with. I find myself at peace and energized by your work. Thank you so much. Today I started to dig in and really organize my craft supplies by category of type of needlework.. I completed a crazy quilt that I made out of silks and satin's that I had collected for 10 years, and it took me 9 years to make, as I was only able to work on it on the weekends. My sew happy weekends. I had to teach myself many new stitches. I fell in love with slow stitching and moved on to making rosette quilt tops or what you call yo-yo or suffolk puffs for family an friends and donated a couple. I love to learn new things and you have opened up a bigger challenge for me, at 69 yrs, and living in Idaho, of the USA. love every video. Absolutely love the quilt that Anna made. What a gift to the world you are. Loved seeing you and your mum under quilts together and how you honored her.

Hi Kate, I am from Australia. I started English Paper Piecing 4 years ago. My dearest friend Therese started me on it. It has been a great comfort to me and kept me sane after losing my eldest son 3 years ago. My first quilt EPP won a 3rd place in a quilt show and I was so chuffed with the judges comments. My next quilt I made in honour of my son, and my dear friend custom quilted it for me and in the binding put my sons name on it. It hangs in the room that used to be his. Thank you for your videos they are very inspiring.

You have snapped me out of my anger with my son, he is living with us atm and has been struggling badly with mental health issues. Today after a heavy week of his moods we ended up arguing which resulted in me angrily storming off in a flood of tears and heading to the garden, I am about to go get some sewing supplies and plants and will let him know how much I love him before leaving!! Hello Kate I’ve just found you on KZbin. The only hexagon quilt I’ve made I gave to my dear friend in the hospital. She protested that it was too special. To appease her I told her she could give it back when she came home. She loved it and gave her something cheerful to look at. Unfortunately she passed unexpectedly and it was much later that I remembered the quilt. I asked her husband if he knew what happened to it and with a smile he said oh yes it’s on my bed at home! Apparently it gave him some comfort too. Watching you work makes me want to make another one. Hand sewing is so comforting to me. Thank you and my husband and I followed our daughter from Washington state to Florida 3 yrs ago. 🙏🏻🐞

Hello Kate, thank you so much for keeping us company. I look forward to each new installment of your videos. I’m a sixty-nine year old woman living in rural Maine, United States with my husband, four dogs and two cats. I made a loose resolution this year to complete one quilted project a month. So far January has a full sized simple six inch block pattern quilt all of solid purple fabrics, my husband’s choice. Just beginning to sandwich a scrap, king size flying goose quilt together for February. Wish me luck. Blessing on you dear lady for encouraging, teaching, and sharing with all of us.

Hello rural Maine! Rural NY here. A scrappy flying geese sounds wonderful! Like Kate, I also watch Jenny of Missouri Star Quilt Company, and I'm so happy that I discovered her last September or so, and just when I had hand surgery around Thanksgiving, a video on crumb quilting popped up. No cutting really. With a bone removed from my left thumb/wrist, I couldn't do much, but I could hold fabric between my first and second fingers well enough to just randomly sew small pieces of fabric together. Honestly, saved my sanity for the first week or so. (You should have seen me tie my shoes without a working left thumb - slow, but I got it done.) I'm telling you this since you might have lots of small scraps left from the 'geese'. I have 24 10" squares of crumbs and it really became a favorite thing to make, even now that my hand is mostly back up to full strength. Take care.

Hi Kate...I am from the Philippines but living in the Algarve, south of Portugal now with my British husband. I had been watching your videos for few months now. When I was diagnosed with lung cancer, I started to watch quilting videos to get me back to quilting. I had been to a quilting class as a beginner in Lausanne, Switzerland when my husband got a job there. I made a lap quilt, hand stitched and hand quilted except when I sew the binding in but finished the binding with hand stitching. Now, while I am on chemotherapy, I like to do something I enjoy to do so I decided to go back to quilting. I haven't done this when we lived in the UK, Singapore and Philippines.

Many different projects on the go. Great Grandma was blind but she crocheted rag rugs. I was fascinated as a child to sit and talk with Great Grandmas as she made rag rugs. Thank you for your lovely KZbin channels!! I am in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in Nevada City California. Like others, here I am going through some cancer surgeries and subsequent treatments. I've had 3 surgeries in the past 6 months. I find such joy in viewing your channel as they are such a balm to my heart and soul. Your peaceful, quite demeanor is so refreshing. We also have a little "farm". The mountain lions, bear, and foxes have been a huge problem for our goats and chickens, so we no longer have any. We do however, have a little vegetable garden. I love to can our fruits and veggies, make salsa and jam to gift to others, and enter in our county fair. Our daffodils bloomed early this year on January 29th, the very day I returned home from my last surgery. What happy little pops of color they add to our winter landscape! My husband and I have had a retirement longarm quilting business for the past 16 years. We love our customers and the variety of quilts we have been given the honor of quilting. Thank you again for allowing us into your last homely house and garden!

Hi Kate, I‘m from Switzerland and I love your videos too. They inspired me to restart all my craft activities after a long break of about 25 years. Before I had an intensive family phase with little children and I did many knitting and crochet projects, mainly for the children. Later I joined a management job in a big company and I was too busy and tiered in the evening to follow up my handcraft projects. Since one year I’m retired now and I open my dusty moving boxes an pull out one unfinished project after the other. I also found my quilting stuff and I‘m in the process of revival and relearning. I think, I have enough work for many years now. I like the way you perform your videos, they are always full of peace and love and of course information and ideas. Kate, all the best for you and your projects, stay in love with your family and friends and all people in your community.I can‘t wait until the next video comes out… Take care and best regards from Switzerland, Petra

Northeast Ohio, U.S.A., here, right on the shoreline of Lake Erie. So lovely to have a quilting companion on the internet even though I have no internet presence apart from an email account. Even before I found your channel I'd had an ambition to do a Grandmother's Flower Garden hexie quilt. (Also have had a double Irish chain in slow preparation for years and years.) Seed Packet quilt was most inspiring, but what will come from the inspiration will be...not a Seed Packet quilt, something quite different, I'm thinking. Now I feel a lot less...isolated, and that isolation has been despite having plenty of quilters in the general vicinity: I have yet to meet them, but we've had some deeply demanding veterinary issues in this house and we treat our animal companions much as if they were our grandchildren (of which we have none.) And I love to garden, particularly vegetables and herbs. Glad and grateful for all you do. Much love from NorthEast Ohio! 😊❤❤❤😊

This made me think of how it must be for families that live with multiple generations in one house. They could have a Kate stitching by the fire every night, or doing something equally cool. At least us solo dwellers can bond through the magic of the internet. I'm in the northwestern US, Washington state. I raise guide dog puppies and like to build things out of other peoples' cast off materials (mostly wood), but I'm interested in learning to make a quilt, which is how I found your channel. Stayed for the chats, coffee and cats. I'm currently taking a break from building a bed frame out of cheap construction lumber and shop scraps... I needed a break from sanding out in the unheated carport. We usually have a spring/winter mash-up here that lasts until late June, then it does summer for a few months.
