One of the best purchases I made for the lawn is a wireless rain gauge. I subtract any rainfall we get from the weekly 1 1/2” irrigation. Sometimes we get close to an inch in just a few hours in Florida so I can cut back on my sprinklers for a few days.

Rochester NY here, we haven't had a drop of rain in 3 straight weeks, all suburban lawns have gone a nice crispy brown.. I've noticed that *no one* is watering their lawn! Awesome.. no need to do it, the grass isn't dead, it's just dormant. It greens right up again as soon as the rain comes back. This lack of rain doesn't normally happen here, its quite rare..it's a nice break from mowing.
@Chrislk19862 жыл бұрын
I used to live that brown lawn life, but being a homeowner now, I prefer to not surround my home with tinder--People love their random fireworks all summer long and we've got neighbors who like the occasional wood fire even during burn bans. And, hey, some of us like mowing and keeping the lawn maintained year round ;) . Bonus is After replacing my in ground sprinkler heads with MP Rotators half way through last month and installing 0.5gpm aerators in the bathroom faucets, water use is actually down by about 10% compared to last year! Looking to hit 20-25% savings on the next months water usage just from dialing in irrigation a little tighter and cutting the grass just a smidge higher.
@fauxque50572 жыл бұрын
I prefer letting nature do its thing. Brown is a lot easier to maintain. Green just means a lot more work. Rain is my arch enemy. With what they charge me for water, and higher for sewage there's absolutely no way I'm watering my lawn. There's not a lot of sense in having to pay for sewage to water a lawn, wash a car, or top off my pool. Especially when the sewage is 15% higher than the water bill. Maybe if I sink a well I might water the lawn, but I hate mowing it so it's counter productive

Dude, I live about 150 miles north of Panama City in Alabama. This area I'm in is just flat out not getting rain. I did all my prep this year, preemergent, aerate, Milo and other fert, diseaseX, liquid aerator/ dethatch, scalped. Started in February and we just haven't gotten rain hardly at all. No forecast for May either. It barely came out of dormancy, got a little drizzle since and it's been weeks, no rain in the forecast either. It's so frustrating I've wasted so much money and can't see the fruit of my labor.

Had 12k sqft of bermuda laid down 3 months ago and it was going good until the heat started. It’s now going on the 3rd week of temps in the 95-105* range here in the Midwest. First month I watered around 25k gals when it was doing great and hadn’t changed it but I’m starting the think it’s due to my rocky soil keeping the soil depth to shallow for the roots to penetrate. Had approx 80 yards of top soil added before the sod was installed.

Yep, used Hyrdatain at the beginning of June here in Garland and grass is trying to hold its own. Both my neighbors (who don’t water) yards are almost dead. ☠️ Been watering hard 2 days (almost the whole day) every week and my st aug is still standing up, green and plush. This is my first year to use Hydratain, and I do think it is helping, although next year I’ll use the granular because applying the liquid is hard work with prewatering and post watering.
@johnfetter32522 жыл бұрын
@@johnholmes3279 I've used both the granular and liquid Hydratain. I think the liquid is a little cheaper in dollars per 1000 sq ft, and because my irrigation has a few spots with poor coverage, I will also spot spray the weak areas with a little extra Hydratain and water it in with a little extra water.

Awesome tips 👌 I also watched Jesse's video beforenI watched yours. I wondered Hydretain wouldn't be good enough ? 😜 2 days ago, I applied Hydretain mixed with liquid aerator (baby shampoo or dawn does the same thing?), humic&fulvic acid and kelp, then watered in. I irrigate my lawn a bit less than 1" per week with above ground sprinklers. Hydretain is definitely helping my grass stay green in summer. I haven't used Dawn with Hydretain. if it's the same as liquid aerator, I will switch to dawn for sure to same money!

Living in a city with watering restrictions and no sprinkler system makes life pretty tough when it comes to watering. I've pretty much left my lawn to fend for itself in the summer. Whatever water it gets comes from the sky. I will drag the sprinkler out once in a great while just to keep the grass alive, but it's an uphill battle so I just concentrate on making the lawn look good in spring and fall.
@Thelawncarenut2 жыл бұрын
yeah that's actually a good strategy and it pretty much goes along with what cool season grass wants anyway. It doesn't like being pushed in the summer anyway.

I noticed in the 2-ish minutes of footage applying the dish soap, you only went through 1/3 - 1/2 of the hose end sprayer capacity; and I'm sure some of that spraying time was edited out in post. Is there something I can do to slow mine down to a more similar rate? I feel like mine practically empties after 2 minutes, and it is impossible to move fast enough to cover the recommended area (not soap - thinking of air8/rgs)

Drought, watering restrictions, and dormant lawn. Watering (hopefully) enough to keep the crowns alive. Using hydretain already-with monthly additions after the initial heavier rate in late May. Is it safe to use the 5oz/1000square feet amount of DAWN with a dormant, struggling lawn? Many thanks.
