The Lawn Care Nut So I have a question for you. It's really in two parts and I'll try to explain the best and shortest way possible. How do you get rid of crab grass cause my whole yard is just Crab Grass. What would grow well under my black walnut tree. I have a lot of squrriels or tree rats as I call them. So I have a shell problem from the walnuts

Amazing stuff! You're the best. Q: You say its ok to fertilize every 5 weeks to fix an ugly lawn. I'm Northeast (likely KBG) and everywhere I read "not to fertilize in the summer". You recommend this frequency *only* because you're using organic fertilizer? Want to be sure I don't screw up my lawn ;) Thanks!

Obsession is not a healthy thing to indulge. If it's a hobby and an escape from work, that's different, but just don't become a yard-care Nazi who gets bent out of shape if your neighbors don't share your obsession. In the bigger picture of human virtue, lawn care is near the bottom of the list.

I’m a female homeowner and I felt the same way you do at first. I’ve been watching his videos for a few months and have really seen a difference in my lawn. First find out your grass type. That’ll determine everything moving forward. Then get a soil sample. Then follow Alan’s videos regarding whatever deficiencies you may have in your soil sample results. It’s not hard, it requires time and attention then you’ll see results.

Mowing is NOT the most important thing. Eating, breathing, and drinking beer is your most important thing (or else you'll be dead), then you can mow if you want. Or you can sit on your super wide recliner and mow only once every summer, and that's in Florida. Like some people I know. Let the grass grow until it reaches your waist, with all kinds of seeds that stick to your clothes.

Found your video and I’m glad I did. First time home owner and never had to care for a lawn. My back yard is a desert, and my front yard is spotty and covered in weeds. Your video was great and I can’t wait to watch more! I need all the help I can get!

Curious what progress you've made. If you have literally no grass you might as well dig it up and put down good soil and appropriate seed for your location.

This is exactly what I'm looking for but honestly this video could've been 10 minutes. There is a LOT of fluff here. If I could offer some advice - If you you are going to make a video this long please include a summary in the description. For example, you simply could've listed the tips in numerical order and included timestamps for users to jump to.

Mulching clippins is only recommended in areas where soil is less dense. Otherwise, the thatch layer will build up and choke the lawn.

Did anyone else catch at the end, "fertilize every 5 weeks"! For real? Quarterly is what usually gets pushed. But then again, you do have the results. Just did a little research and Milorganite is maybe a third of what Scotts costs.

watching all the youtube videos, it's intimidating but great lawn doable. funny, my wife thinks that just because we have a very small lawn it should be easier but really the work in keeping a perfect lawn is sorta the same. yes of course less lawn means less time altogether but ultimately still the same steps and love.

Hey Allyn, based on your recommendations I resodded my 25 year old weed infested St. Augustine lawn with ProVista. It has been everything you mentioned and I love it. One question what is the optimal amount and dilution of RoundUp to spot spray stubborn weeds? Also, my lawn is not dark green, any suggestions for additional minerals? Thanks!

Milorganite is great if you want to keep geese off your lawn. It does kind of smell but works great. Price is very good but that's because you have to use a ton of it versus something like Scott's.
