12 USD yearly for an email subscriber estimate is a bit overly optimistic valuation - don't you think? I'd say it's more like 0.001 USD per year for an email subscriber.

If you have a loyal subscriber base. 1$ a monthly is actually low end value. For example take Patreon there business model works around this.

Sorry I am not clear about '$12/subscriber/ year' . What is she selling actually if she is providing her books for free.

If she want to run long term business, she can not relay only on book sales. As a mother there are many thing to share with her customers. One book is just a way to get customers trust. Her real business starts when her customers trust her enough to buy her next product (whatever it may be related to child care) she can even do affiliates or sell her high end product which make her more profit then just by selling books.
