I had very long "FB Messenger" conversations with the good people at Naked Root and kept suggesting that they should develop a clear INNER pot. I even offered pictures and the idea of having the upper portion of the inner pot be opaque, in a color to match the outer container, and molding the growing section of the pot using translucent plastic. So, for me, these won't do either. My ideal container would have an opaque outer pot with a clear inner pot. Close, but no cigar!

I don't understand why they even sell the non-transparent inner pots with these systems at all - I mean the best part of semi-hydo is seeing the root development. By the way, I'm just a dude who likes plants and I don't know anything about fashion, but I love the way your hair and glasses are so well tied together - lol. All the blue, even the milk carton and graphics were tied together in blue haha - shows your attention to detail and why your plants are so happy. Good job! 😎👍

The only reason I can think of is that over time, when the roots are subjected to light for a while, algae forms even in semihydro. You can see that too if you keep a plant in just water or neglect a cutting for too long :) Algae is not harmful to the plant but takes away some of the nutrients so I’m not so sure myself if I want to be friends with it or not. The whole point of a mineral substrate is not having organic material in the pot except the roots, so … The following is just a guess because I’m still new with the whole semihydro thing but maybe if there is a certain amount of algae and some of it dies it can start rotting away and maybe that could lead to root rot because there are almost no microorganisms to decompose it. But I don’t know 🤷🏻‍♀️

Perfect review of the Naked Root Planters! I have been using them for several months and have good results BUT the lack of water level indicator is a problem! Also if you over fill at all or move when full the liquid spills from the lovely sun design! The new clear inner pot will be great! I think I will wait to purchase until they fix the problems I have described! Hopefully they well do this soon because I do think they could have a “perfect pot” for semi hydroponics.

@@TheLecaQueen I like their looks,color options, not overly impressed with the sizes options. I really like their versatility, I have one in leca, one with a gritty mix combination, and one is waiting for leca. I just bought an 8 inch for a granddaughter who just bought a huge tradescantia pallida, and she’s afraid she’ll kill it with improper watering,so I helped solve her dilemma by buying her an 8 inch peppercorn pot. I only have 20 plants and not all are in naked root pots, but the price isn’t really so bad that I can’t see myself slowly putting them all in these great pots. Thank You for all you have taught me in this leca world I’m truly enamored with it all. Thank you for showing these planters and their versatility

You could use the outer transparent pot as an inner net pot (drill a few holes in it) and put it in a bigger cache pot! This gives you and even bigger size to work with!

I just converted my Alocasia’s to these pots I like them so far. I had the same type review on them as you especially that little 3 inch sun not giving you the room for the watering spout. I thought about waiting for the clear pots, but honestly that doesn’t bother me “yet”. 😊

Thank you for such a detailed review, this was very helpful :) I have just one more problem. I don't like the fact that the inner pot is not suspended. This way anytime you pick it up to check water level, which is not visible otherwise, as you mentioned, you risk damaging the roots that are out of the liner on the bottom by basically standing the whole thing on them :(
@TheLecaQueen
@TheLecaQueen 4 ай бұрын
ahh yes, true, it really only works for the submerged method. There is no way you ould od the wick method, and by the same token there are some plants this would not be suitable for in semi hydro, like cacti, caudex plants, plants that do not like wet feet. I would hesitate to put a ZZ in this, the flexibility of using a wick to control the amount of moisture in the substrate is not there.

@@TheLecaQueen Hi! :) unfotrunately I don't have any experience with the plants you mentioned, but honestly I am more concerned about alocasias' delicate roots :( they don't mind being submerged, but they hate being stepped on :( in my older pots I added a litttle space under all their liners and now they're ok, but these wouldn't look good with the liner elevated :(

this was very interesting and informative....I look at these cache pots & the ones i currently use & the slats looks so skinny, How much does that determine how well & fast the plant grows. In other words, do the roots have a hard time squeezing thru those slats?

Hey I’ve started my leca journey but I think I did it all wrong. I have several plants who have put out lots of new growth already but I still don’t think I did it right. I use a net pot full of leca with my plant potted in it. I also use the trio of nutrients by general hydroponics. The thing I think I’m doing wrong is the amount of water in the cover pot I have always filled it completely not the 1/3 everyone’s says to do. Is that wrong? Should I use less water or is filling it all the way up to the top like I have ok? Thank you so much for your time and help!!

They should sell the clear inserts separately & the shell in different colors. I wouldn’t want a clear cover pot. We all have different preferences when it comes to our color schemes. Also, the colored inserts could be replaced with clear if you could purchase them separately. Im just assuming they don’t sell them separately. If they ever offer this option, I would consider buying them. Im really liking the cheapies I bought from Amazon! They even have a water level indicator at the bottom.

The biggest downside with these planters for me is they only have 3, 5 and 8 inch pots and their “short” pots. I was under the impression too that we aren’t suppose to put the plant in the bottom, so in that case you have to cut some of the root ball off to get a larger plant in there.

Does peroxide kill your nutrients??

What is the context of this question?
@loriesmith9350
@loriesmith9350 4 ай бұрын
I was just told yesterday that by mixing a quarter of a tsp of peroxide into your cache pot covered in alage, it will destroy the alage and keep it from growing. You were talking about your clear outer pots. I just wondered if it was safe.
@TheLecaQueen
@TheLecaQueen 4 ай бұрын
@@loriesmith9350 hard to comment on this as I do not know all the details, but hydrogen peroxide breaks down into water and oxygen, algae need water, light and food to grow, the hydrogen peroxide will not affect those things so I would treat this advice with a pinch of salt or get more details.

@@TheLecaQueenhydrogen peroxide can stop the growth of algae, but it's best to use it as a last resort and only when other methods have failed: Algae membranes Algae membranes are more sensitive to hydrogen peroxide than terrestrial plants, which have protective cuticles. Decomposition Unreacted hydrogen peroxide breaks down into water and oxygen, leaving no harmful byproducts. Algae types Hydrogen peroxide can be used to treat stubborn green algae, blue-green algae, and black beard algae. Dosage Use the highest dosage necessary while minimizing the amount to avoid stressing the tank's animals. (Pinch of salt)
