Spoilers below! If you're thorough enough with scanning the area around the tent in the beginning, you can actually find the corpse of your character. It's only a really subtle silhuette, but what's really brilliant is that you can start a new game with all the upgrades for your LIDAR and then switch to "material mode" in order to make it really obvious.

Same here, i'm not sure why people are complaining so much about the story. It's a simple plot where your character lives in purgatory with the ghosts of an ancient civilization who probably want him to stay down there with them for all eternity only to re-live the same journey over and over again.

Yeah, those elements show the true scale, depth and history of the place while leaving a bit to the imagination. It's not that convoluted, people just want any reason to be overly critical. @@TheOneGuy1111
@TheOneGuy1111 Жыл бұрын
@@TimSlee1 Of course it's not too convoluted, it's the opposite problem: It's too bare bones. Take the cult, for instance: All we learn is that there's a cult that did sacrifices, nothing more. You can say that this is to leave the rest up to your imagination, but there's barely anything there to base any theories off of; "a cult performing sacrifices" is about as generic as worldbuilding can get. Now don't gt me wrong, I don't think it's a bad game because of this, I'm just pointing out that there is legitimate reason to be critical.

There was a story about the uneffable, presumably by Lovecraft but it may have been by someone else, where a man goes on an exploration into a structure in the desert that goes far underground. He had nothing with him but a torch and at some point early on it goes out. This leaves him to grope around in the dark but rather than turning back he continued on into what is assumed to be an ancient temple of some sort. Is everyone just gonna gloss over that ending, Was that screeching when we entered the water just us screaming in pain, sadness, despair? Did we become the Monster that was prowling the waters? How did we die? What happened?
@BananaWisp2 жыл бұрын
I figure the thing in the water was probably another trapped soul like the protagonist, likely from one or many of the drowned/tortured witch trial victims. There's a lot of suffering in the cave and at the end the screech just points to them being the same, tormented sort of spirit. Older souls or ones that experienced great pain might be a little more vengeful/territorial than others, I suppose? Lashing out at anything they can perceive. Near the start of the game with the tent if explored carefully, you can find a body- probably the player's. No obvious clues to what happened but could be a ton of thing. Heart attack, slip and hit their head on a rock, etc. Like the protagonist muses, they do not remember How they died, and we never get an answer to that.

Oh man I'm really happy to see this! I remember recommending this in the discord after the GMOD Lidar video and it's great to finally see king of spooks finally play this

It was like watching a movie. At the end, the main character ended up like Made in Abyss...

I love how this _essentially_ turns your sense of vision into a sense of touch. _Well, more like a hybrid between vision and touch._

Gotta say these cultists might not have been good people but they made some EXTREMELY WELL MADE BRIDGES and buildings like wow

I went into this thinking it was a pure exploration game with a new style, found it through the Lidar mod which honestly got more attention than it deserved compared to this piece of art. The ending will echo inside me for a while, it is really haunting. This game is beautful in its own way, a hidden gem, i cannot comprehend why it didn't get any more attention than it did, the only reason i can see is overpricing.

This game makes me feel really impressed. its ending was not I expected. And what is the best about this game is it has shown the whole processes you had scanned!

I don't typically comment but oh my god this game is just... amazing! I love LIDAR and the concept of it and this was just a dream come true and the best part is it was played by my favorite KZbinr ❤️

That game was so beautiful and interesting but stills kept me on edge watching it. I absolutely loved this

This video felt like I was experiencing it with you. Usually when a KZbinr plays games, I know them, but since this one isn't that popular all the plot points and lore I was experiencing for the first time too.

Spoilers below. I think the story could not have been better for the mechanics. At the start, you know very little, and your tools also don't let you understand your surroundings much. By the end of it, your scanner is much stronger but you still have to scan your surroundings to understand them. Similarly, a lot is revealed, but some critical information is still left for you to realize (such as the fact that we have been going backwards this entire time). One thing this game also does amazingly is foreshadowing: There was pieces of it literally everywhere. Your character initially stated that he was the first to come this deep, yet he didn't seem to have any comments on other LIDAR equipment scattered all over the place. He also stated that some poor souls who died down there were left to relive their deaths over and over again. With hindsight, there were so many instances of foreshadowing, yet it was all executed so perfectly that most players wouldn't be able to predict it until the very end, and those who do would not be sure until the end either. This might be one of the best examples of game mechanics being used to enhance how the story lands by affecting the subconscious. It is so good.

after watching the gmod LIDAR video, i did a quick search for more LIDAR games/mods and came across this beauty. very glad to see you covering it, although if you are able to play it in VR you really should. the scanner works much better with depth perception

Just watched this for the first time. When he found the altar and burst scanned the room, he missed that it put silhouettes of cultists onto the walls without there being any object to cast the shadows.

I have a theory that is that the player character during the boat section is trying to cross the river Styx without paying the ferrymans toll, and so is cast back to the beginning as the thing that you were running from as shown by the player beginning covered in red dots.

Anybody notice the similarities between this game and Greek myths of going to the underworld? The Ascent/descent (elevator). The boat ride (river styx). Ghosts/lost souls.
