Gonna go off on a limb here and say the dev didnt figure out checkpoints. When you initially fall into the ballpit, the game transitions from one scene (the McDonald's) to the next scene (the ballpit). When you die, the game just reloads the ballpit scene, sending you back to the start. Since nothing can actually kill you in the intro scene in the McDonald's, there's no reason for the game over sequence to reload from that scene. It's not difficult to program a very simple death sequence like that. It's basically "If touch the bad thing, show a death message, wait a moment (or for input), then reload the scene."

I don't have discord, but i have a suggestion. Fallout 4 with horror mods. There are many different styles of horror to choose from. I once did a playthrough with 10+ horror mods including siren head, complete darkness nights and a HUD/VATS disable mod. It was a very tense experience.

Idk if you have yet or not, but you should really check out the game "dreams" for ps4 (though it runs better on ps5 imo... especially if you do vr!). Anyways, it has multiple interesting looking horror games that don't get alot of attention because it's not as popular as Garry's mod or something. As far as I'm aware Toby Fox (creator of UNDERTALE and its music) does not care about his songs use in videos at all. One creator wanted permission from him to use a song in his sponsor segment, his reply was basically: "Everything I use to make my songs are public domain, if you can recreate it 1:1 and make it sound the exact same, you can tell NordVPN you made it yourself." The only thing you have to look out for is copyright trolls. Although, there is one song.. "CORE" is flagged, but I'm not sure if it affects monetisation.

Hey, Librarian, could you try playing Vampire The Masquerade - Bloodlines? It's an old source game, that runs off the half-life beta engine. There is a sorta horror-ish section, that's not actually that scary for most people nowadays, but back in 2004, when it came out, it was supposedly terrifying... i want you to also analyze the maps themselves. See if being a vampire, removes the eerie feeling from the source engine. I recommend you get the unofficial patch++, fixes a lot of bugs and adds more features.
