I can understand NL's thought process with the shark puzzle (8:28). Each individual choice for which piece to pick up and where to place it makes sense if you don't look at the other pieces you haven't placed yet, or otherwise make decisions based on only a single type of information. So I think he was just being lazy and thought he could get through it without planning, when actually planning was necessary (if only for a second). Though it is suspicious that he wanted to avoid planning in a situation where planning would have required imagining picturing shapes in his mind.
