Hi Jonathan, Nice paint booth setup. Sure wish could have seen you finish the plane and maybe a maiden. It was an awesome build series for sure. Thanks for the many tips and tricks you showed along the way. Looking forward to the next project. You and Katie stay safe.

@@thelightersideofrc It is a lot cheaper than the certified aircraft paints, some of which go over 1K per gallon kit... Local for you to, made in Alberta. Love the channel. I have to get back into building again. Been in RC since the early 70's and just about everything from .049 to turbine and heli since. Thanks from the west side of the mountains in CYXX

so what the heck my friend, I was hoping to see the completion of this thing. well at least looks like you are moving on to a Mibo Swift and I'm a glider guy from way back, flew a lot of 5-6 meter sailplanes back in the day and look forward to the swift. That is going to be some Hot liner!

Good video another way to hold thing down a cheap way rather than using double sided tape is put masking tape on the item and the other part ie table card board etc then put no name super glue on 1 of the masking tape and press the 2 parts of the masking together . This is a old trick the luthiers ( guitar builders ) use to hold router templates etc to the body and easier to remove when finished
@thelightersideofrc3 жыл бұрын
Great Tip! That is awesome! Thanks so much for that I have never thought about that!😎
@robert43g3 жыл бұрын
@@thelightersideofrc Hi thats good to know I saw it a couple of years ago on youtube what you do is put the tape on 1 part then mark where it goes on the 2nd part ie dry run then put second tape on the other part. some times they also use kicker to speed it up. And unlike you I belive a guitar only needs 4 strings and a longer scale length thats where I have used this trick

I just had a question. Do you seal or glass the inside/outside edges of the control surfaces? Or just paint over the bare balsa?
@thelightersideofrc Жыл бұрын
Either is fine but my preference is to glass them
@gabrielmorales97522 жыл бұрын
Around 17:30 you talk about filling the weave of the glass with the primer, I assume this is a catalyzed primer so it cures and has very little shrinkage. I tried the paper towel epoxy glassing method and then spray priming with catalyzed primer and the weave is still quite prominent. Any tips for reducing this weave print-through? I've tackled pinholes with some filler, but the weave still remains and was wondering if a good sanding and one more coat of primer ought to do it. I've read some folks like to use foam rollers to apply the primer so it fills better. Thanks !
@thelightersideofrc2 жыл бұрын
Did you use 3/4 oz cloth? The primer we used was endura epoxy primer. It filled it very nicely. Best thing I have seen so far and if I was to do this again would be to glass the aircraft with the water based urethane clear. Can’t remember brand right now. Simple. And from the results I’ve seen it works great.
@gabrielmorales97522 жыл бұрын
@@thelightersideofrc 1 Oz is what I used. ( building a 101" Hawker Sea Fury) I only glassed a few smaller, preliminary parts long before ever seeing this video, and I used 1oz cloth from Ziroli. Yesterday I ordered some Deluxe model products 1 oz cloth because it supposedly has a tighter weave pattern. The Primer I am using Speedokote 2K urethane high build primer. Thank you for sharing what you used, and I may need to come back to this later on if things don't work out....and yes, i've heard of people using urethane clear for glassing! I won't knock it until I try it, at least on some test parts in the future !

Bonjour Jonathan, you are a very busy man betweew the PC6 and the futur F15. when I see how you prepare this plane for paint, OUAH ! profesional work. what kind of sand paper you used ? ( 180, 240 grs or more ). HI from France
@thelightersideofrc3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Philippe! Yea the Mibo swift is next! There will be one more video of the PC-6 with the sliding door install. For the sanding of the primer it's wet sanding with 400. If there were any bad areas (Like a paint run) than I would start with 320 than go to 400.

very nice and cheap setup mate like the setup as well and what size is a good size for painting rc planes air compressor i mean mate great video like normal mate what would you do if you had a white gel jet plane to build
@thelightersideofrc3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! On a smaller plane you can probably get away with a smaller compressor like mine with no tank. On bigger surfaces you have the trigger pulled for so long that it uses alot of air. on a white gel coat plane, rattle cans give a great finish as well but the HVLP Spray system is just a step above.
@crunchied83 жыл бұрын
@@thelightersideofrc the spray gun finish is better looking than spray cans for larger jets you would need a bigger air compressor as well
