How do you know what numbers to set the acc/dec to?
@thelightersideofrc Жыл бұрын
For Acc. I shoot for 4.0-4.2 seconds. That’s a safe number. For DEC. It’s more about sound from engine. 25 is a decent safe number but sometimes I will lower this number depending on turbine response. Each engine is different as well.

I have had several turbines and sizes from 40 to 320N. By far the Swiwin has been the fastest run up, restart, cool down, and zero to full throttle times.

I think I’m sold on this 190 will be a good replacement for my current 190 savings in weight fuel consumption and length for my ultra. I see on other forums people are still struggling with the concept of reduced output due to environmental conditions. You add either altitude or temperature plus pipe reductions it all adds up.
@thelightersideofrc2 жыл бұрын
It's a great engine Wayne. I have a hard time comprehending peoples struggle with reduced output due to environmental conditions. Little bit mind blown at some folks! Thanks for watching!

That is the huge benefit of Swiwin Turbines, is power and fuel efficiency and low cost. In my F-15, I have a 4 Liter fuel system and I can fly for 6 minutes comfortably and still have a little under half in the saddle tanks and a full hopper tank. Nice review Johnathan! Swiwin 190 is my favorite!

No power at 190b. I have one, it barely puts 16 kg of thrust...
@klausrohrbach60412 жыл бұрын
@@TheBede5 well power is dependent on altitude above sea level and what your air density altitude is which is also dependent on temperature. The engine at sea level makes a little over 40 lbs of thrust if it’s set up right. Now I will say it does depend on who you bought your Swiwin from CRX can say whatever they want but I know guys who have had engines that don’t run correctly. I get my engines my BadBoyzRC here in the states. Plane is also a factor. You have to consider thrust to weight ratio. If your 190 is barely making 16 KGs of thrust then you need to have the parameters checked. Make sure it’s a 190, and not a 170. They are the same can size and electronics but set up differently. We had a big F18 fly at an event with twin 190s and it was an absolute rocket.
@TheBede52 жыл бұрын
@@klausrohrbach6041 see, we are on 300 m asl and have very much identical results, as Jonathan has. Thrust at about 34 lbs, or 160 n. And that is a problem for such a big can. Other turbines have specified, or even more thrust. Something is wrong with that bloody 190b. It has strange low max rpm of just 118000. Normally at those sizes would be around 122 to 125000. And 40 lbs is not 190n. Just 180...
@thelightersideofrc2 жыл бұрын
One of the reasons you see lower rpm on Swiwin engines is a result of the larger intake size. Much larger than most.

Hi. As always great videos. I like to stop by and almost always learn something new :-) I have one question, could you make a comparison for the kerosene consumption of a 9 kg turbine and a 12 kg turbine that is throttled to 9 kg, for example? I would be very interested in this.
@thelightersideofrc Жыл бұрын
Thanks for stopping in and thanks for watching! Great suggestion. It would take some planning and the right turbines but love it.
@TheBede52 жыл бұрын
Great presentation, as usual 👍. But the thrust is significantly lower, than it should be. Just 33 lb, when it should be 42. Something not ok here. You don't test the turbine on 6000 m asl to have that much thrust drop.
@thelightersideofrc2 жыл бұрын
A few years back we opened up for the local full scale air show. At the pilot meeting the density altitude that day was 8500 ft. We are at 3200 ft physical. There are many factors at play. A hot day at our elevation is for sure a 20-25% drop in thrust. That’s why I upsize my engines. Most have a 210-250 in the Huracan. I use a 300 to compensate for our altitude.
@TheBede52 жыл бұрын
@@thelightersideofrc ok, but at your test the swiwin 220 turbine has had those specified thrust, at similar conditions. I own the 190b and it does not give the specified power. All other turbines I have, from other producers, they have all specified thrusts. That is my problem. Works just the same as on your test. Not powerful enough.
@thelightersideofrc2 жыл бұрын
My 220 test was done in the middle of winter so it was -10 to -20 Celsius outside. The density altitude came in probably at below sea level. Or close to sea level at that temp. Big difference
@TheBede52 жыл бұрын
@@thelightersideofrc ok, well, but still that 25% thrust drop of 190 is hard to explain, just because elevation of 3000 ft a sl. At least it works very well and very fuel efficient 😀. We know why

Do you have any plans to use a telemetry module for swiwin to jeti. I see panda rc is selling v-speak modules. Maybe a review in the future.

Hello Ron. I haven’t been too vocal about it yet but the Huracan is fully switched over to Jeti which also includes a v speak module doing turbine telemetry!😎

Just wondering why you don't show a view from the exhaust side of the engine with some smoke to show the thrust and power.....numbers are okay but a visual would be more interesting
@thelightersideofrc2 жыл бұрын
It’s not that exciting from that side either. I did a 220 test video about 1.5 years ago and showed the exhaust side.
@airmanbybee2 жыл бұрын
One thing I have always been curious it intake airflow would increase thrust. I'm curious if you throw a leaf blowing would increase trust... kinda like the air being forced down the intakes
@thelightersideofrc2 жыл бұрын
Great thought. It wouldn't increase thrust but it would increase fuel efficiency. The turbine is rpm controlled. So if max rpm is 118k and it needs less fuel to keep it there because the air is helping than less fuel would be pumped in.
@michiganengineer86212 жыл бұрын
I recall seeing someone "stack" some EDF's in a test rig and the increase didn't counter the added weight of the second blower, battery and ESC. I don't know if anyone has tried something similar with a real turbine.
@thelightersideofrc2 жыл бұрын
I think an interesting test would be to see if introducing air input would alter the fuel efficiency for the 1 min at full throttle test. Similar to an install in an aircraft with ductwork or full bypass. 🤔
@michiganengineer86212 жыл бұрын
@@thelightersideofrc Maybe a test the next time you have an EDF build going on, unless you have one there in the shop of course. A possible concern would be when you aren't driving the EDF and it's spinning in the airflow from the turbine, could it "back feed" and damage the ESC?

I have some ideas! I’ll try it soon.

Nice video! 33LB is 15kg... The engine not should be put out 19kg?
@thelightersideofrc2 ай бұрын
Density altitude! This is mentioned in every test video for every turbine. At sea level at 15 C it will put out the rated thrust. As you come up in elevation (we are at 3300 ft) and temp increases this drops substantially.
@3D-RC2 ай бұрын
@@thelightersideofrc thank you for the answer. But I have a question In the video you made on a 22kg engine, it did put out the right thrust and even a little more and both videos were made in your garage...
@thelightersideofrc2 ай бұрын
@3D-RC the 220 engine was being run at -20c in the middle of winter. That cold brings the density altitude to about sea level.
@thelightersideofrc2 ай бұрын
During the summer here when it’s 10c in the morning our aircraft have way more power. Mid day when it’s 30c you can tell! I one opened for the spring bank airshow. During the pilot briefing the density altitude at show time was 8500 ft at 3300 ft elevation.

@@thelightersideofrc I am interested in buying the Skywing jet and the manufacturer recommends an 18 kilo motor for 3D flights with thrust vectoring. I planned to buy SWIWIN 19 kg, Until I saw your video and then I started to think twice because I need a lot of power for 3D flights So I thought maybe buy SWIWIN 22 kg Can you advise me on this??

how are you bro I bought a Swiwin 190B engine Could you please send me a message explaining what I should do about tuning the engine parameters? How do you power up the rec, do you need an esc?
@thelightersideofrc11 ай бұрын
The turbine will need a 3 cell lipo power source and the receiver needs a suitable power source. So depending on radio system of course but 2 cell lipo.
@scaneagle6211 ай бұрын
I understand the 3s batterys but my rec needs a esc to power up. How do you get power to it without a esc.?
@thelightersideofrc11 ай бұрын
@@scaneagle62 your receiver needs power to power up. So if your using a ESC with a built in BEC (receiver power supply) than that’s why your thinking that. Plug in a 5 cell Nimh or 2 cell life battery into an open port and the receiver should power up
