Presque Isle Bay Day 2

This was a struggle. The wind was a struggle. Not having electronics was a struggle. A cold front hitting the day before I arrives made for a struggle to find active fish that had been shallow the week prior. Getting pinned down away from the launch made for a struggle to just get back to the truck at the end of the day. But I caught fish; largemouth, smallmouth, northern pike and a gar. I think that I will plan a trip here again another year in mid May, not Mid April.

That weight was probably from someone duck hunting. Misery Bay is a great location for the diver ducks.

42:04 - 42:28.. Good people take their dogs for a walk...Great, dedicated people walk their kayak!! :-)...Much appreciate you show the tough times as well as successes, Jeff! I fished the Suskie at Fort Hunter last Tuesday and only one small hit the whole time, but I reminded myself.. " Even pros like Jeff don't always get success!" (altho you did with on this day with the number and variety of fish.. NICE! :-)

Being from the area you always want to see a newcomer have success, but you will have these types of days. For what it's worth, I had good success the following two weeks after you were here. Would love to see you up here when they are really chewing good!

I used to go ice fishing in Presque Isle during the 1980's. It is good to see you fishing at the Smallmouth Capitol of the World. I used to fish pre spawn in a canoe at the mouth of Chautauqua Creek and the local Lake Erie shoals in Barcelona NY but you had to watch that wind.

I think that to effectively have a good run up there, you need to schedule more than two days. The Monday I left, the wind layed down and the sun came out with quickly rising temps. I doubt that in a five day period, the whole time it’s rough like those two days. Schedule five days, two are likely to be good.

Man, I grew up on Lake Erie in NY not too far from the Barcelona harbor. I lived in Texas for a long time and now in NC but Lake Erie brings back some good fishing memories. The smallmouth population has thrived over those years I’ve been gone.
