Very nicely done. I always wondered why the stone always looks scruffy but the mortar that holds it together always looks clean.

The design is classic but it always just looks scruffy. I used to think that it was mucky from the days of coal fires and could do with a good clean. Can it be cleaned or is there something in the nature of gritstone that condemns it to forever look filthy?

Just me I would prefer it to stay the way it is John. That is all I have known not sure what it would look like if it got cleaned up. Thats if they could clean it

@@colinthegeordiehistorian10 I think it is a fine monument in a good location but they made a mistake with the choice of stone. (Similar to the football club building a wonderful stadium at the seafront but then making the mistake of having the stands facing the pitch! I will however concede that the new bridge over the river is a beauty). Keep up the good work.
