Thanks for watching. It was a very hard song to transcribe and prepare, specially for the different and complex rhytmic patterns. It's played only with DI and it's in a clear Motown style and sound. Try to play it and you'll be surprised how hard some parts can be. I did my best but missed some bars, sorry about that. Let em know if you have any question. I'll answer.

Está excelente pero supongo que esto significa que no vas a hacer la versión de Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes. 8-( Por supuesto lo entiendo porque debe haber muchísima más gente interesada en esta versión.

Old fart coming back to it after being absent for 3 DECADES chiming in here. Your bass tutorial is superb. It was perfectly visible how you were playing it; and additionally the tabs are super helpful for a guy who never learned to read music.😮 I built myself a jazz bass with Musicman pickups, and want to learn funky lines that are fun; to put it to work. Thank you for making it possible for me to learn this intricate bassline.😊

I think this song is deceptively simple, don’t get intimidated. It’s mostly octaves and if you’ve listened to the song enough, you already know the rhythm and when to play the notes. After playing close to 10 years, starting my learning with CoverSolutions, I was able to pick this song up like it was nothing. You got it.

Great rendition. A lot of Motown bass lines seem to be complicated with all the small fill ins . This Thelma Houston song has always been a favorite of mine with it’s superb bass line. Is it best to start learning to play this by slowing it down as I’m learning to play it or what? I really would appreciate your advice. Also could you please do a video on Diana Ross song “Love Hangover “. That bass on it is really kicking it. Thanks.

This song wouldn’t have the same impact as it does without the bassist who played this track. The riff is a fairly simple variation of the standard disco octave pattern with some flair thrown in (when he jumps to the 7th fret during the chorus) and follows it with some James Jamerson style chromatic bass fills going along with the Bb and F, back to C The tricky part is when he’s relying on sliding octaves during the instrumental break that’s following the chord progression, that’s a lot more to remember and confused me too the first time I heard it. I started playing rock bass (probably the simplest genre to play bass in) and gradually moved to this soulful, funky style and now when I improvise I play lines similar to this so if I can do it, you can too.

I wonder if this was because it was dance music. Similar to house music and people are just grooving on the dance floor for an extended duration so the song kept going. Bassist was definitely bored playing the same fill so used a bunch of different rhythms. Just a great study piece for that.
