This is what my father Inlaw can't get into his head. He really wants to be as quick as us and hit things we do. (he's mid 60's...) He hates we have to wait for him but everytime we say we don't care. We're all out riding together. That's what counts.

@ Loam Ranger: Yep, it was this time around that was the right time. You'd seen it before and didn't do it, but it looked like this time you saw yourself doing it. You knew the speed you wanted to hit it at, you felt it had a good landing, and you were comfortable without a tow in. Like you said, you have to push yourself, but still within your comfort/skill zone. Well done. The speed was perfect. I had a moment there where I thought you were a bit short and were going to case, but you just cleared it, and got into the landing zone.

Great message at the end! That's the problem with social media nowadays. Everyone thinks that since they can't do what someone else is doing, then they aren't good enough. Everybody is different and everybody is at a different level! What you can do at a personal level is still f***ing awesome!

Thanks loam ranger mate, cos of you in two weeks I've progressed from nothing to, coming fast down the trails, popping the mtb on small and quite big jumps. Including very high table tops. I've mastered steeps at a quick pace, how to stand up vertically and push the handoebars into the ramp. How to land a bike safely, how to jump off flat ramps with no lip. How to take burms fast and correctly, normal corners also. Go fast without fear downhill, when to attack the breaks etc, how to drop the bike correctly to off a flat three foot drop. How to approach jumps at the right speed etc. So has my girlfriend to. All within two weeks. So thanks for your incredible videos and your help. Blessings.

Good message at the end, I don't mountain bike but I did alot of bmx as a kid and now I do motocross. It's very important to not ride above your skill level. Whenever I am thinking of trying something new I try to keep it simple. I take a few run ups and ask myself if I can do it. If the answer is a solid yes, I do it right then. I don't know if this applies to mountain biking, but in motocross you have to commit long before you reach a jump or any other obstacle. Half commitments get you hurt. Alot of times people over think it. If your body and skill level are capable, send it! Most people will never experience that feeling of being terrified to try something then doing it. But it's something that almost all action sports can relate to.

Absolutely! I 100% agree and think it directly translates to MTB. Cheers man

fond memories of that place. we got there thinking we could ride up to the top easy enough. nope! pushed our bikes for 2 hours in the rain to the top top and then got a slow flat on the way down. the mrs was crying at the start thinking she couldnt do it. after we got down a bit she warmed up and got into it! what a day that was. i remember seeing that gap and thinking yeah na =D haha epic trails there. would recommend shuttling it.

I am still learning my progression. I have been mtb a while now but this year is the first time for a full suspension (2020 Transition Sentinel). My local trails is, just that trail riding. Then I found out about Little Switzerland bike park. I have never hit jumps before that day I went there and still never hit a drop. I think my progression should be to stop thinking my bike is more capable than I am. No one I ride with even wants to jump or do the drops so by myself its taking me some time. Thank you for all your helpful insight.

"everyone is on their on path, in mountain biking" --- It's so wonderful how EVERYTHING is a microcosm of LIFE! Loved this message - the sooner we can recognize, we all, and APPLY this 'ideal' perspective, the better. The ideal perspective being - we are all on our own journey, our own path - and they are supposed to be different! Accept and appreciate and try to see the value in 'their' journey, and your own! :-)
