I’d pay $1000 more for a Timp Peak with a Bosch motor. Possible? If not the Orbea Wild seems worth every Penny! Both great machines. Unfortunately, the EP8 motors unreliable rep scares me.
@TheLoamWolf Жыл бұрын
That EP8 rep you speak of may over exaggerated a bit. Atleast in our experience. We've ridden probably 40+ EP8 bikes since they launched and only had one failure, which we aren't sure the cause yet, likely a belt. Granted, we haven't had any Bosch DNFs yet but still.

But at exactly 175cm (for Robert), my medium's 465mm chainstays & 1255mm WB proved just a bit too much sled and not quite enough shred for the SoCal trails ride. Having owned both the Shimano EP8 and the Bosch Gen 4, I wouldn’t even consider another bike with the EP8. If you are a cruiser then the EP8 will be fantastic, it’s torquey and will whisk you along but if you want a more sporty ride that lets you spin fast when the trail demands it, then the Bosch Gen 4 wins hands down and it can still whisk you along at lower cadence with plenty of torque. I also think it’s more efficient but it’s hard to say for sure since the suspension design of the bike plays into that as well.

$$$$$$$. I’m a first time buyer of an E bike. So I purchased my Husqvarna at our local motorcycle shop for $4700. EP8 motor reasonably decent suspension RS yari & super deluxe TPR 4 pot Mullet. It handles so well & honestly does it all very well for the package. Started at the age of 29 riding and racing back in 1989 before that I was a hardcore motocross rider. I feel that e-bike is right in the middle of those two. At 63 I am in the zone and having the best time of my life hammering my husky. ❤ Happy Trails

I found some 2022 base model Husqvarna MCs for just $3,800 though it's farther than I'd want to drive for any warranty/maintenance but they do seem like an absolute steal for value. Sram sx/nx drivetrain though you will chew through that in no time at all, I would replace with gx after burning through it, or convert to maybe shimano linkglide drivetrain if I loved it enough and more aggressive tires and brakes depending what you ride

12:16: one comment on the Timp Peak seat tube angle. The effective angle is 77.5. Fezzari measures effective seat tube angle at set saddle heights in each size (listed in the geo charts in the website). The size large Timp peak has a 77.5 effective seat tube angle a saddle height of 720mm. @@fzr1000981 that Gen1 is still a great bike. People are being put off by anything w/a HTA over 65° or STA less than 77°, like the Gen1 Wild, Gen2 Levo or a YT Decoy when those bikes will work VERY well for 80% of the riders on the planet. I have no doubt the 2023 Wild is everything the LW Crew (and everyone else frankly) says it is. But for it to be great, and greatly appreciated, the skill set and TERRAIN have to be there too.

Hey there, friendly giants on the panel! It's quite a sight to see you towering folks reviewing these bikes. It almost feels like watching a team of NBA players doing ballet - quite impressive, yet a little unconventional. But here's a crazy idea: why not invite a fellow of more... petite stature to join your brigade? It'd certainly paint a different picture of how these two-wheelers perform for those of us who are a bit more on the lightweight side, and aren't quite reaching the ceiling with our height! Just a thought from down here below the clouds. Keep up the good work!
@TheLoamWolf Жыл бұрын
Haha thanks for the chuckle. While we get where you are coming from, the downside to having someone join the squad of a smaller stature, would mean that we would need to get 2 of each bike in different sizes to do it properly and fairly. Most brands may not want to send two bikes or have the availability to do so.
@LastAphelion Жыл бұрын
You're not alone, I swear every review channel are size large and up. I'd love to see more small reviewers out in the wild and how more people 5' 7 and under get along in the market in that awkward space of being between medium and small (extra small where it exists) and how/if smaller riders end up with different bike preferences due to the geo changes. Cause I've seen bike preferences and behaviors change on the other end of things when heavier riders have more mass to weight and gain traction and ability to toss huge bikes around, I can imagine similarly how some brands small would feel better or worse for some. I swear all the petite riders are in XC though 😂

Awesome reviews, you guys really do it right!!! On the Rocky Mountain just found out from Rocky they sent me the following regarding the cranks: "There aren't currently any 160mm cranks available on market that fit the required spindle spacing of our bikes. The closest you'll be able to fit is 165mm as Race Face offers their Atlas crank in that size with a 151mm spindle length. If you want to go down that route, you'll also need to convert your bottom bracket, clutch spider and lockring to 30mm as the Atlas isn't availble in the 24mm size specced on the bike.". I'm interested in getting an e-bike as a work truck for my trail building. It's gotta be 27.5 rear wheel though, a big unwieldy wagon wheel would get in the way, and on an e-bike the list of advantages a 29" rear wheel has really shrinks.
@TheLoamWolf Жыл бұрын
Plenty of mullet wheeled options out there, though we’re still a fan of dual 29ers for the slightly increased traction and rough terrain attacking capabilities.
@bermroller Жыл бұрын
@@TheLoamWolf I think those "advantages" only make a real world difference if you're riding trails that go in a straight line, which would be lame. Full 29er downhill times in testing on trails with turns are not faster in anyones testing that I've seen, and if they really were advantageous in attacking rough terrain I think more than only one World Cup DH race in 2022 would have been won on a full 29er. They aren't dominating enduro either, it's a pretty even mix due to climbing being involved. But for the general public, I think there's a bit of a mass security blanket placebo effect going on. Now if you tell me you're doing big 40+ mile rides, I have no argument against that. The big wheel will definitely be more efficient and comfortable over a long distance, but downhill performance there is objectively no advantage.
@LastAphelion Жыл бұрын
Lemme know what you end up going with. I'm still convinced I want to get a mullet too but maybe also full 27 too which slims the list greatly. Levo/kenevo, Heckler/Bullit, trek rail which I think can be mulleted, and check out the Scott ransom eride which is a rare bike which can do 29, mullet, and full 27. I still need to find and try one of those sounds like a great little freeride setup. There are tons of mullet bikes out there to choose from

I don't have much free time so I think the full-power one, would be better to gain some time on the way up but I wouldn't wanna lose the play when going down. I live in Squamish, Canada, so trails tend to be a bit more technical than flowy with some tight corners. I'm around 5'7. Thanks in advance for any advice. Also if you don't mind asking, where does the Santa Cruz Heckler Sl stands in your sl podium?

Nothing planned at the moment, but it’s an idea we’d love to do. Ultimately it depends on our production budgets and being able to source bikes to include in the test. We’ll do our best!

@The Loam Wolf I'm surprised you guys didn't mention the Cascade Long Travel link that does exist out there for the Levo which makes it something in between the standard Levo and the Kenevo (at risk of the warranty).

I just spent a large chunk of change for a Specialized Turbo Levo S-Works. Are you saying that I possibly made a mistake and should have bought the Orbea Wild FS instead?
@TheLoamWolf Жыл бұрын
Not necessarily, both bikes are very good and capable, it really depends on your terrain, riding style, and what you're looking for. The Wild is more "enduro" ready and the Levo is aggressive Trail, bordering on lower end of enduro. Ultimately though, if you like the Levo and have fun riding it, then no, you didn't make a mistake! haha. Enjoy the ride.

Great stuff guys! awesome seing all the bikes head to head but as a norco fan no range or sight vlt ?
@TheLoamWolf Жыл бұрын
We had both Norco offerings in last year’s shootout, and they’re solid. We wanted to include fresh bikes in this years shootout apart from award winners from last year though!

Great job on the review, I liked the Pivot Shuttle LT for the best all around. Have you guys reviewed the Yeti 160e and the YT Decoy Core 4? Thank you

Unreal test guys, this has to be one of the most informative and through! I am looking to get an Orbea Wild but always fall into the inbetween sizes being 5ft10. Appreciating this is subjective but giving the amount of time you guys have had on it, could you recommend sizes?
@TheLoamWolf Жыл бұрын
Thank you Alex. Without knowing much about your riding style, terrain and preferences, our best recommendation would be to look at the reach number on current bikes you really like and use that as reference. Also, for what it's worth, we believe that you can go about 5mm shorter on reach due to eBike's weight to keep similar stability but make it more fun and maneuverable. Easier to pop, manual and snap around corners. Ultimately depends on if you prefer a planted, stable ride or if you are a lively and active rider who wants to move the bike a bit easier. Thanks for watching! Drew

Awesome job as per usual. Currently own an alloy levo and love everything about it except the looks. Motor area is too chunky. While that may be silly I really like the aesthetics of the Timp Peak. These two seem very similar. Why would you recommend one over the other? What is your experience with support (apps, setup, warranty) and touch points (remote, screen, anything else). Is the motor on one louder than the other? Does the Shimano motor clutch still clank? I am getting tempted to get a Timp Peak but would love your input. Thanks in advance!

this was a great shootout! you guys should do a mid power/light weight e-bike one, theres enough of them out now to actually do a really good one

@@TheLoamWolf awesome, hopefully you will include variants of the same models within like the short vs long travel rise for example and the levo sl and kenevo sl

Great revieuw! What i would like to see is reviews how the quality of the bike is when taken fully apart. Some bikes are very nice when riding but a complete nightmare when you have take it apart.. Idea mabye? I think a lot of mtbers are interested about that because most do there mantainance themselfs.

@@fzr1000981 Got my Levo Comp Alloy "used" off Pinkbike for $3500. I say "used" because it had 5 miles on the odometer. Its been a great bike for me. Threw on a Fox 38 and Cane Creek Kitsuma coil and it can handle all the chunk and tech I can throw at it. But the Wild looks nice too!

@@fzr1000981 It's cause a lot of them lose their warranty and a battery or motor replacement is 1k each... highly unlikely but if you do end up getting a new motor you get the warranty with it so! Not really all that bad of a deal!!

Hey Robert did you think the Fezzari was more playful then the Santa Cruz Heckler from last years shootout? I'm trying to decide which one to buy.👍

Not quite, but it’s pretty close. And considerably more capable for aggressive descending!

seems like all these machines are relatively ideal, only difference is the amount of salt and pepper added. which ones should we avoid? it's all a matter of taste and terrain? ....

When I'm trying to compare bikes it helps me a lot to categorize them on charts, like compliance/pop/agility, spec/value etc from least to most.

Thanks for a great video. Im right now strugge to choose between the levo comp carbon or the orbea wild h10. Same price but I don't know if the cf frame of specialized or the better shocks on orbea is the best choise.?
