The city of Knoxville, in the east of Tennessee, may not be on your radar as a must-visit riding destination yet, but we’re here to convince you otherwise. It quickly went from a place we’d never thought of riding, to a spot we couldn’t wait to get back to. We actually stopped there as part of a road trip with Jeff Lenosky (Trail Boss) two years ago for the first time and were blown away by the urban trails right out the city’s back door. Looking for a way to get back, we were lucky enough to have Knoxville as the host location for our 2022 eMTB Shootout. Now we’re back to share some of our favorite spots and recommendations on this budding eMTB Destination.
We'd like to thank Canyon Bicycles for helping make this series possible and for supplying us with two incredibly fun and capable Canyon Spectral:ON eBikes to ride in lots of fun places.
Within the boundaries of the city of Knoxville are a number of official eMTB-friendly riding spots, with constant development and maintenance from the AMBC to keep them riding sweet and ensure the mountain bikers of Tennessee are kept entertained by fresh and varied tracks. One place you should absolutely visit is the Baker Creek Preserve, a free-to-ride trail center nestled in urban Knoxville which is awesome for all ages and abilities. It’s worth taking a hardtail or BMX if you have one in the garage, as the pumptrack and asphalt slopestyle line are excellent fun.

Looks really cool. My wife and I traveled to Pisgah from Arkansas last year and were very pissed when we realized no ebikes were allowed. Thankfully Kanuga and Cherokee are ebike friendly. I might have to look into a Knoxville trip soon. It's driving distance for us and it's always fun to get out of Arkansas and ride some other stuff.

Thanks for sharing. Our goal with this series will be to help save people that same frustration of going somewhere only to find the bad news!!

@Harrison Schreiner I heard the trails are more tech than kanuga. Guess I need to look on youtube for some videos.

As a Knox native I can say that mtb had grown exponentially here within the past 5-7 years. Simply having a smaller yet quality selection of dedicated dh trails had brought in enough people that Knoxville saw it fit to turn itself into an mtb mecca. So stoked that this area is my backyard and to call it home 🤙

East Tennessee not Eastern. It's a division not a direction.
@TheLoamWolf
@TheLoamWolf Жыл бұрын
Question - if a person isn’t referencing one of the divisions, but rather discussing what part of the state it’s in, would that not be accurate to say the city is located in the Eastern portion of the state? We’re not locals so we’d love to know from an expert.

I'm very confused on why Knoxville gets so much love from y'all. Less than 2 hours away you have a riding destination that's a hundred times better. Asheville North Carolina.

Hey thanks for writing in. Tell us why Asheville is 100 times better? We do like it there and we hope to go back and spend more time and ride more trails. If you know eBike friendly trailheads that would be rad as well as we're on the other side of the country and tough to get any definitive help. Regarding why KNX is rad - too many reasons to list but here's a few: The city/tourism and local bike club welcomed us with open arms and accommodated our crew. Exemplified southern hospitality! An amazing urban bike park that's within pedaling distance of downtown, jump lines, pumptracks, jump trails, flow trails and tech trails. Riding terrain that is very welcoming to all levels, families etc. Easy to get to and access the trails eBike friendly Lots of things to do and places to eat off the bike Everything is close/easy to navigate once in town Close to WindRock, arguably some of the best DH terrain in the country. People are rad there. Long story longer, it's not just who has the gnarliest or sickest trails that impresses us anymore. Yes, we love riding that stuff, more than anything. BUT, we've been around and ridden lots of places on this planet, and at this point it goes beyond just the gnarliest when we're putting content like this together...
