"That gridlock will be very difficult for the additional emergency vehicles " Why would they need so many emergency vehicles of one "suspect" item in a passenger's baggage. Why didn't they shut the exit off the M23 if it was such an issue. The North terminal was fully open. Why should people with flights make their way there and people who arrived make their way out of the still open terminal. Why are the authorities so cagey about what the suspect item was?

The closed road (A23 to Crawley) where you had to turn left to the South Terminal and M23 Spur Road at about 7m 30s. The building you drive under on that road is the Gatwick South Terminal (Landside) above you are the Check In Desks and the access between the Arrivals and the station/car parks. If the bomb scare was in the Check In area that potentially could warrant closing the road beneath.

@@sillybait1329 Just a bit of gridlock, if only you knew. Have you any idea how much delays cost. Any way I did not say that security should not be rigorous. They have an important job to do. But at the end of the day what ever this item was it wasn't a bomb. Did it really take that long to determine the item wasn't a bomb and the passenger wasn't a terrorist is all I am asking. I will give you an example. I was involved with a job to replace the fire alarm system at a major London airport. In their wisdom the airport were trying to integrate the fire alarm system into the main airport control system rather than have control board in the terminal engineering centre. The airport were doing this with some very complicated software and had been running tests the night before resulting in the alarms going off just before lunch time when the terminal was at its busiest. The whole terminal as evacuated land side and air side. All the passengers were milling about the apron with aircraft movements going on. Security no where is sight. Passengers could have wondered off any where. The fine from the regulator for closing the terminal was £14 million. Fine to the airport that is. The whole contract was only £10 million. The following day there was a false alarm in a different terminal. Another evacuation and a second £14 million fine. That was just the fine. Who knows what the disruption cost to the airlines was. As you say security is of paramount importance but what ever this was it wasn't a bomb. It might help if we knew what it was. If an airport vehicle is parked such that a plane can't be pushed back the fine is £60,000 per minute. Or is was ten years ago. That is how much the delay to just one plane in a fine.
@kevinrayner58123 күн бұрын
@@sillybait1329 I did a response but it vanished. It isn't just a bit of gridlock. The cost to airlines is going to be phenomenal. Yes security is paramount but at the end of the day the passenger was not a terrorist and was allowed to continue. It would be interesting to know what the suspicious item was. And to re-iterate I am not saying security should be ignored. This wasn't a bomb threat it was a "suspicious item".

My guess would be that Sussex Police do not have the depth of experience of the Met in regards to shutting down, evacuation and all that. I think it all went down about 10.55 so at 12ish they still would have been in headless chicken mode, getting folk out and resources into place, getting the chain of command sorted and working out what they dealing with. If it had been serious ( it was not in the end ) then I expect they would have closed Junction 9 of M23. You then have to consider that you have regular airport police and then bringing in extra resource from wider area who are not up to speed with the airports operations.

Surely they practice scenarios like this and have a response time and targets they have to hit but if they're blocking roads to the S terminal 4 hours after the initial report of a suspect bomb they missed!!

1. A23 goes partially under South Terminal. Any explosion could've caused a tunnel collapse. 2. They can't let cars in to the South Terminal due to the risk of a second attack. Someone could drive any old car bomb in, or just start ramming the large crowd of people standing outside. 3. They didn't "let" people block up the road. People just do it. No matter how many you tell them to move on, there's always another car just round the corner that's going to try and stop there. There's clips on twitter from that very roundabout, showing those very officers trying to move cars on, yet more kept piling up there. People just refuse to be inconvenienced. I know you wouldn't have known this at the time as well, but one of the evacuation points for the South Terminal is the drop-off/pick-up area, as far as I can tell from amateur videos. So letting in cars would've been useless, as no one would've been able to get back out anyway due to the giant crowd of people standing in the roads. The rant about the police does clearly seems to be a rant for the sake of ranting about police, rather than a rant based on anything factual or logical. Everything you said about the car park however, I completely agree with. Why on Earth they send you up to Level 4 for a pick-up I don't know.

I was going into the city, parked somewhere a kilometer or heck even a mile away. Went partying up until midnite or so. And until then all questioning was done. Well, the murderers escaped anyway. The number of times I've been on the M25 and unable to use the A3 as it's shut, only to find the M3 is also shut and then no messages on the boards until the M4 - which is also shut - is unbelievable. I once ended up looping round by Oxford to get from Reigate to Basingstoke at 3am, and that's ignoring the M25 being shut for a bit, sending everyone north on the A3 (south was shut) and back out on the M3 (which was shut past the M25 so had to get back on the M25, which was down to a single lane and 20mph - at 3am!). I'm fucking sick of the whole lot of incompetent fucks. Months now I've been stuck on the M3's 50mph average limit due to a lane closed and I have never seen any work vehicles, let alone workmen - and I've driven the entire length in both directions at all times of day.

@Perseus75675 күн бұрын
Useless? And what would you say had they not closed the A23, it was a real bomb, the bomb detonated, and dozens of people got trapped in the A23 tunnel right below the South Terminal? Hell, maybe even LDC got trapped down there. I bet you'd be one of the first kicking and screaming about how they should've anticipated it. Besides.. not one of the police vehicles here were traffic police, as far as I could tell. There was Armed police, and what looked like some sort of Rural Crime Team Ford Ranger. Budget cuts and a belief that Traffic Police should "focus on real crimes" has led to a lack of police trained in properly managing traffic. People only have themselves to blame for that one. Then again, even if they were there, they'd probably get called racists for daring to tell the driver of a black car where to go. Or "fascists" for telling you what to do. **Although, at the end of the video there was a National Highways Traffic Officer on scene, who should've been managing traffic, but we all know those police-rejects were incompetent anyway.

A road tunnel should not have been closed for suspicious cabin baggage as has been reported here.especially when it was confined to the airport itself.

I just think after such a thoughtful previous video that youve really hit rock bottom here with a thoughtless video criticising the police at the very early stages of containing an incident where you have little or no appreciation of the scale of the problem. The police have in no way caused traffic. People wanting to go to the South Terminal have caused the traffic. Its also been pointed out to you by two other commenters that the A23 goes under Gatwick so thats why they had to close it off. There are NOT an endless supply of traffic officers to direct traffic and the police do the best they can with very restricted resources. I just don't see why you can have empathy for your passenger with the pjs and tea cosy, but you have a cheap shot at the police force!!

I do, our country have been through the utter devastation caused by years of a Labour govt, where the Police no longer serve the people, they serve politicians with the dire ideology, and yes, the coppers on the ground are just taking orders, but Hitler's vicious "police' troops said the same thing, and the govt could not be implementing their awful dictates if the Police at every level said NO. If all you can do is empathise with Police making a pig's ear of a serious situation and not someone who is actually there having to deal with that situation, then just bugger off! Nobody needs your sneering superiority complex here.

@jillga rlick2122 Oh yeah - someone who is there who actually has no concept at all of the whole situation and can only rely on news feeds to know what is happening. I think you are completely deluded to think that LDC has any superior knowledge of the situation over the police.

@@suziforester cannot even spell now thecwhole saturation !!!😁 best of it is as much as he obviously hates LDC, the rest of us, and possibly the whole of mankind, every time he watches a video by LDC, LDC gets more views so gets a better chance of making money from the video, ironic really.

@@johndilloway9762is that all you're able to comment on, a predictive spelling mistake? I assume, therefore, that you must agree with all the points that I made. There are quite a few people who have commented that LDC got it all wrong about the correct need to close the A23 as it goes under the terminal. I and others are not haters. We just hold a different view and get to know the facts. His videos are entertaining, and about 80% are accurate. He just lets himself down on the other 20% and will very rarely own up to anything.
