This just a little example more about why The Sopranos could be easily the best tv show ever. You just can't find this kind of script gems into the classic mob movies...

Notice how whenever the words "mafia" or "mob" are spoken in this show, a) its very rare and b) it's never Tony, Sil, Paulie or any of the other guys who says it. They always refer to it as "this thing of ours." Usually mob or mafia are said by other people. Meadow, news reporters, Chrissy's friend who he ended up shooting... (I mean the one time i heard tony say "mafia" it was in denial of being in it). Just a little something I noticed aha

Definitely. And when johnny sac pleads guilty, they are disgusted. Believe it or not I read somewhere i think that the mafia was supposed to be a secret society at first, and I guess they still carry that bullshit to this day. So one rule i guess is never explicitly say mafia 😂😂

The sopranos was so lighthearted in season 1. It was comedic. I loved it. I would have loved that, but ultimately its the hardcore drama that made this one of the best shows ever

I just noticed that both tony and Walter use gambling to cover themselves up
@cccccc4995 жыл бұрын
Well he wasn’t really lying though. Almost all of their money came from illegal gambling. He just misled her into thinking that it was a small operation, when in reality they basically had the illegal gambling market in Jersey/nyc monopolized. Gambling was their bread and butter, which is why Tony always got mad when guys would sell drugs on the side, it brought unwanted attention from the feds and it was never going to replace the money they got from taking bets
@isaacster50274 жыл бұрын
@@cccccc499 that really enlightened me. Tony always hated the drugs. Its true. They dont need that shit.

@@cccccc499 Gambling and "construction".. lol.. Vito was bringing in $3M/year from construction.. which means Tony was getting $300K.. he had had his legit job with Barone Sanitation for his W2 which was some made up title that probably paid him another $150 to 250K.. so that's half a million a year before you even get to the gambling.. whew

The only time I've encountered the mafia was related to gambling. Of course the guy didn't introduce himself as a mob associate or whatever he was but it was pretty obvious, I had to get an introduction to be allowed there, all the cameras were facing outside, the guy told me easily that it was for the cops. Might sound glamorous to some, no idea. But the Italian guys were being way too nice to some new guy and the regs were obvious losers. I did a little counting and got ahead but I wasn't sure about their dealer's shuffle and the comment about the cameras and just the whole deal, I figured at best if I got on a little streak in the black they would cut me off and probably not be so nice about it, so I just cut myself off early or before they could scam me, whatever the plan was. I honestly doubt they cared but I promised I'd be back which they seemed to believe and they told me if I had any friends I should introduce them to the guy who hooked me up and not give the address out. Not in a threatening way mind you, but it was said at all...

In "Grounded for Life", when Claudia's uncle was suspected of being in the mob and he said when confronted that there is no mafia, we were suppose to understand that he actually was. Was that a reference to this series or is it something that is commonly said by real-life mafia?
@johni19793 жыл бұрын
I used to live in Malta which is really Close to sicily aka the mafias place of birth, the organised crime in Malta has in my anecdotale experience Close ties to sicily and the mob. When me and my friends asked a couple of Italians we were having beers with about the mobs "presence" they all shared a serious look with each other and said "there is no Mafia" based on that experience i guess its one of those things its just better to shut up about and deny if you want to stay out of trouble, however this is just a thing i experienced once (i didnt ask People again based on their reaction) and isnt really proof that it is a commom thing. But my best guess is its a common saying due to the fact that you Arent supposed to be running your mouth about the Mafia.
