What do you think of the Butlerian Jihad and which Dune topic do you want to explore next?

I hope the irony of using AI voice production for this video is not lost on anyone.

I love your videos. I got into you because of mtg… but everything you have made is amazing.. all things I love. Look into the sword of truth series or the wheel of time… ignore the shows for both… there are very good theory boards for both

Awesome work! You should make a video on the spacing guild next.

Im about halfway through Dune: Messiah. I've had to take a break b/c of how the main characters are turning into such horrible people. But that was the point. That's what Frank Herbert's books were about. Power. Absolute power & how it corrupts absolutely.
@Kneedragon19626 күн бұрын
Interesting. The problem becomes, what do you accept as cannon, and what do you reject? Clearly everything written by Frank Herbert himself, is cannon. But what about Brian Herbert, or Brian Herbert's collaborators? Some of that stuff is really good and compelling story-telling, but it doesn't fit into the work by Frank. Then more recently we have video / tv series (possibly more than one) that are aimed at exploiting the interest produced by the recent movies. Again, do those fit into the original cannon or contradict it? As one example of this, you mention a plot-line in one of these series, where the Bene Gesserit have a thinking machine, and do to some extent rely on it for some period of time. That's all new to me. I have the shape of where the worms and the spice came from, discovered by the Spacing Guild in the early days, and one small worm was stolen and introduced from the far reaches of the universe, to the much more central Arakis. The reason they did this, was to create and defend a source of spice ~ which they quickly discovered could massively enhance the abilities of a Guild Navigator. Now ~ apart from that, the spice became a high priced drug, like cocaine or heroine, but it extended life and expanded consciousness. The Bene Gesserit discovered the spice agony, and race memory. I have at least the outline of the story of the Guild's discovery, but I have nothing about the BG's discovery. I would LOVE to know how that happened.

Based on the contents of the video I think expanded Dune was a mistake and confuses the very valid issue that was the subject of the original portrayal of the Butlerian Jihad.

There's no gods in dune?

Leto II is the closest thing in the Known Universe that came to be a “God,” but in the end he was nothing more than a powerful, prescient man. No real gods.
@DavidSmith-cr7mb8 күн бұрын
there isnt even a religion which really has a god, to my memory. most of the influencial groups focus on either technology, some biology like the dune worms or something, or mentat-human stuff. no Gods, no worship.

what "progress" can technology meaningfully impress if it is used only for decadence and economic growth, we have not progressed since the fall of Rome
@codename4957 күн бұрын
What kind of fake deep crap is this. The majority of technology has gone to make life better, safer and easier. Tech progresses beyond that in a society that has the time to find such things.

@@codename495 a man who wears shackles and prides himself on how they may catch the sunlight, medicine for better or worse destroys natural selection and death is neither good nor bad it comes to all and many cultures take it better than us. Better lives as in hedonistic? what of the arts, more available maybe but less potent, there is no progress not really we weaken ourselves in one way and strengthen in another only now we are so much more dependent.

@@tylersutton3224 my point is not technology bad it is that technology for economic growth or pleasure does not produce greatness and the economy has taken far too big a role in our motivations, so long as we only follow selfish incentives no good will come of it

@@vivechjorviani5440 you can't actually divorce one from the other. Every single attempt to do so has ended in starvation and brutality. You talk about altrusim, but on a societal scale it runs counter to human nature. Trying to force it onto people anyways is objectively evil.
